Excellent and enjoyable video. Well done for not putting music over the top - the whole point of watching a video like this is so that we can imagine we're riding the horse! Thanks for sharing your ride with us.
Nooooooo don't stop the saddle squeaking! Not being allowed to ride now for medical reasons, I crave the sound of a creaking saddle, along with other evocative sounds like hoofbeats and the horse blowing down his nose (what a lovely horse, by the way) - all part of the pleasure. For the same reason, I'm glad you included putting on the bridle - it makes it feel more real for those of us who are now reduced to virtual riding. More helmetcam hacking, please!
wow that was such an amazing ride thanks for bringing me :) and your horse is adorable i love how when you stopped near the bench his ears went forward his expressions were priceless he loved that ride hah
That horse has a lovely slow canter, so easy to sit. Nice to not hear constant verbalizing, just the quiet of the moment (except for the squeaky saddle).
Wow, seldom seen such a relaxed horse. I really enjoyed your video 'cause today I have no chance to ride anyway but I miss it so much. Here now, I had the feeling of sitting in the saddle on my own... Really nice video, nice job! :) I only wouldn't use the middle of the paths where all those little stones are, but your horse seemed to be ok with it.
Great video! Next best thing to actually being there!! I love watching your horse look at everything! This is a great video! Your horse's canter looks so smooth from the camera. Is it smooth in reality?
I guess there are variations on fitting a bridle, whether wrong or right, so long as the end result works really matters. I've been using a treeless for many years. I use a Barefoot Cheyenne and suits her well. Gives full freedom of movement especially the shoulders. It can cause hip problems for the rider due to the postion but you can compensate for that. Funny mentioning the surface conditions, I've recentley been trying a set of Easycare Trail Boots and so far been very happy with them.
My trouble has been finding a saddle that suits both of us. The treeless saddle is ideal for my horse, allows unrestricted movement but in my experience prolonged use has caused problems due to a wider riding position. I've added a seat saver and used angled blocks on the stirrups to rotate the hip to a more classical position but it's not ideal. My prority has always been in the welfare of the horse. The Easycare range are the best available and besides the Trail, Old Mac G2's are hard to beat.
Beautiful horse!, Well behaved as well when swapping head collar for bridle, u could take ur hands off of him/her with out it walking or moving off! xx
yes geldings give a "woosh" whenever they trot it comes from the sheathe but can be prevented if the area between the testicles is removed. (inside the well balls for lack of better words. It is perfectly normal though and no worry for concern
Haven't gone through all the comments - too many. Didn't see where anyone mentioned baby powder to get rid of the squeak in saddles. Apply baby powder lightly in all areas where leather touches leather. Do this with the saddle upside down. Be prepared for some powder to fall out when the saddle is righted, but it shouldn't last long. The squeaking will go away almost immediately. Diane W.
Totally agree - people can be far too picky on these sort of things, I do think when you own your own horse you are more inclined to do things the quickest way than one that involves far too much fiddling or undoing of buckles How is the position different re. the hips? Is that different from an english saddle? I have tried many pairs of different boots and never been totally happy with any of them but I do think a lot depends on the horses foot shape. Was she/he shod before
Beautiful Place and Gorgeous Horse.. But you must talk to Him he doesn't know if he's being Good or bad pat him on the neck rub his neck say Good boy! or something😕
Believe you me I talk to my horse all the time. Just because it's not on video is no reflection of the affection I have for Colleen. Please do not underestimate the 25 year connection we have.
Such anthropomorphizing. The horse is happy if she/he's left alone; he/she does not need praising, talking, petting and, especially, patting, all of which is nothing to them but annoying input that they must decide means nothing. Almost as bad as the flies. That "good boy" and petting is only the human expression of the human's own emotion. The horse would prefer quiet and not being touched.
You should put some powder on that saddle to make it stop squeaking and maybe at the end of every ride give him/her a pat and a soft "Good boy/girl." Otherwise this seems like a great ride in a beautiful area.
I couldn't see the thing with the bridle either - other than I always put the reins over the neck before removing the headcollar. Have you have the treeless saddle long? Are you finding it puts more or less pressure on the spine and is it raised off the spine? Are they lighter than a coventional western or even english saddle? Assuming you have shoes on the horse I can't see why the ground type would do the foot any damage Not something I've ever had problems with
I for one actually LOVE the sound of squeaking leather on a saddle, makes me wanna go riding :)

The saddle on the horse I ride started squeaking once, I was looking around like "Don't mind me" xD

I'm intrigued about your comment on the bridle. I’m hoping to post more stuff soon with a newer camera.
Yes, It's a Barefoot Cheyenne treeless saddle. Very comfy for the horse. Thanks for the comment too.

Where is Beddgelert Forest? e.g. what country? I love this video :) xx
what a beautiful chestnut what breed is he and what are his parents like?
@TheWrongLead It is a VERY expensive English Saddle so is his Helmet Cam.
Hi, Colleen is a Dutch Warmblood X Irish Draft, She's 20 years old and we've been together since she was born.
Beddgelert is in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales,United Kingdom.
This video I used a bullet cam I think made by Archos. I now use a Gopro Hero3.

the bridle was put on wrong ... but but did you do a posting trot or a canter? and very beautiful scenery :)
how do you find those saddles? look so comfy but my thigh was digging into the pommel bit, and the stirrups were set too far back for my stiff hips
@SuperHorsegal123 no prob it can be difficult if you are not sure how to tell
Lol still found this vid after 8 years
nice. gorgeous horse. i loved watching his/her ears moving. only thing i didn't like was your whip. not needed.;)
That's one heck of a squeaky saddle. Otherwise really great vid. Thanks.
