Next year it rises to 24 out of every 100 and this number is accelerating to 80 out of 100 in 2030. @@MrQuay03 I agree that volume on those vehicles is way too low. There isn’t enough electricity in most countries to have everyone switch to EV’s and they require a lot of upfront resources for their batteries. Toyota is downplaying EVs because they don't have an EV that anybody wants to buy, and won't have any for 3 to 4 years when they have a dozen plus EVs schedules for release. They are also constantly releasing press releases touting their development of a solid state battery to power some of these new EVs. Does that sound like a company that doesn't think EVs are the future??? Even the most rabid oil industry stooges must realize that, as well as ICE auto dealerships that depend on servicing ICE vehicles for much of their profits. Toyota is doing nothing more than putting out a smokescreen to obscure the fact that they failed miserably on their 1st generation EV, and need to make a massive turnaround to come up with something that is competitive with Tesla and other top EV makers.
Exactly! If they did it 15 years ago on the heels of Tesla's public launch, Toyota would have dominated the EV market, instead of spinning the narrative of them losing out.
I own a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, and I put a lift kit on it and smaller wheels and off road tires and Bilstein struts and shocks. I hate how slow it is, especially when the AC is on. Even though I love my EV ('22 M3P) I still live in the real world and this is a solid decision on Toyota's part. I don't want to have only EV choices, they don't make sense for everyone, nor for every purpose. I work at home and if I didn't, I probably would have an ICE car. When we go on trips that would require a stop for charging, we always opt to take one of our other cars because no one wants to stop for 30 min to charge up. And it never was about the environment for me, if I'm being honest. It was all about the convenience and the amount of performance I got for my $. EV's are not saving the environment and may actually be worse than ICE.

waiting for the market to Mature so i can get a cheap 500 or 600 mile range Corolla type ev. Until then I'll drive my Lexus hybrid. And I'm telling you the Lexus es 300h is something else
EV is the best way to go in small countries. An example is Norway. Governmental incentives make this possible. The US is huge. We need more and more investment in EV charging stations as well as for prices to be low. Why Toyota is a waste of investment : 1.they are way late in the modulation of vehicles, which they now call TNG .2.adding EV engineering team in every dealership / separate / and creating extra block in service center at dealership make things difficult because they are not ready yet. 3. They need new people and new team. Check out Tesla, especially watch the Tesla Simi truck team, and how much research they did to build the truck. Toyota has everything. They don't have a better team.
There’s no explicit EPA rule that 50-60% must be zero emissions. The regulation is based on emissions keeping to a certain level. Toyota has taken way too long to develop decent EVs and now they’re stuck so of course they have no choice but to pay their competitors for credits. Not sure saying they want to pay but it’s the corner they’ve put themselves in. And PHEVs are complex with two powertrains and this will be expensive. And for the most part, they’re not charged frequently enough thus operate as regular ICE hybrid but heavier so worse fuel economy.
The regulations are changing because, ultimately, it is the consumers who decide what is possible. If the consumers refuse to buy BEVs in the prescribed numbers, the politicians have to choose between holding on to the regulation and seeing the car industry crash OR modifying the regulation to match reality so the car industry can survive. Crashing the industry would be political suicide so my money is on a lot of rollbacks - regardless of the party in power.
Hybrid is the only viable tech in our lifetimes. You either have EV: A needlessly expensive battery that is WAY bigger than you need 90% of the time just so you can get home on that final 10%, or you just can't go anywhere farther than x miles. Remember to cut that in half in wintertime. Or hybrid: A drastically smaller and more economical battery that covers 60% of your driving and doesn't cost more than the car itself to replace, and an old, dusty, outdated thing that extends your range to infinity. There is a reason that Toyota is by far the world leader in automotive manufacturing.
Hey let's ignore that Toyota is 240 billion in debt . Almost what GM and Ford owe combined. Tesla owes 9 billion. I love Toyota, but frankly they are talking out of their butts. Also they been in a high margin kick. So owing so much money is kind of embarrassing
Embarrassing or not, finance is a very natural and profitable business to get into, if you're a large automaker. Now If you are using the in-house financing from Mazda and even the Bass Pro Shop, you're also borrowing from Toyota, so it looks like it's something they want to extent. Why are they borrowing the money they are lending out? For leverage and it's basically free money, you can tell by negative "interest paid" on their balance sheet. Interest received is a separate post obviously. The long term debt being almost the same number as "Receivables related to financial services" should be another.
My next lease this fall will probably be an ICE, but could also be a hybrid or EV (as they say on TV) "If The Price Is Right"! Whatever I end up leasing, when I need my NEXT vehicle in 2027, then I'm 99% positive I will go full EV because by then, either the technology is 3rd generation, or I'm living in Europe because the wrong old man won the U.S. Election this November!!!!
I don't even see 30% of the population buying electric by 2030. Electrics are (at best) a second car for big city dwellers. The rest of the country will never want one unless they are cost competitive and functionally the same or better than a gas vehicle. Electrics will never be that.
The car market is a racket in Western Europe. I'm waiting for the European manufacturer to start whining to their respective government that Toyota and Honda aren't playing their stupid game, as Toyota and Honda are gaining market share while the other chased the government dollar for EVs and lost. The EU cars also suffer from bad rep as far as reliability and customer support are concerned, and the buying public is getting wiser. When you drop 50K in a vehicle, you better know what you're doing. They are already coming up with protectionist laws against Chinese EVs, I'm waiting for them to clamp down on Japanese cars too, hybrids or not. Although both Honda and Toyota have plants in Europe, and what they do usually is threaten to move their manufacture somewhere else. That usually works to calm things down. It's the game, yo.
Toyota is just following Supply and Demand. Why make something that the consumers are not interested in buying? I hope other automakers are doing the same too! (Come on Nissan/Infiniti!!) The EPA system is pretty complicated. I just look at the credit balance once a year when the new EPA automotive trends report comes out, but even that is always a year behind. Toyota currently is still in the credits selling group (2022), but I think there are different kind of credits.
How long do you think it is before governments deem driving “too dangerous” and all vehicles will be self driving for “our safety“. I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but…
And yes EV cars are quick, but almost joyless and desensitized.
Toyota’s opinion is not popular but it’s not wrong. Doubling down on hybrids is a solid strategy .
I think the problem with waiting for the technology to improve is that when it does improve, it won't be Toyota's technology. If Kia and Tesla and Ford can make great EVs in 2 years because they have improved all the problems they have now in 2024, how does that translate to Toyota building great EVs? Ford and GM have been struggling with EVs even though they have been building cars for a hundred years. So what will make Toyota's future transition to EVs smoother than what is happening to Ford and GM?
He is saying what any reasonable and prudent person would say. It just sounds surprising because you don't often hear such intelligence in the automobile industry
And this is why I just purchased a Lexus IS 500 vector blue.. long live the V8 and ICE!!!!!!
Hope you are going to drive the new Crown Signia this spring. I would one by June 6,2024
I looked at a re branded Toyota EV (Subaru Soltera) and bought a 2024 Forester Wilderness instead.
Whats kinda weird is our cars look futuristic but nothing else seems to be. Looks wise.
Toyota’s anime is so awesome! Thanks for sharing it, Kirk!
Toyota no longer wants to invest into EV’s once US Govt began to politic who gets the EV credits
I didn't buy an ev because of the very high insurance cost. Way higher than my gas and maintenance cost. People should consider insurance cost vs gas/maintenance before committing to an ev.
yeah EVs destroy tires like crazy
also the EV and SUV trend is destroying our roads due to how heavy these type of cars are
Toyota is absolutely right!
I think Toyota is on to something. I ordered a Cybertruck but there is only a 10 percent chance of me taking delivery.
The QR code was developed by Denso
Don't forget the $7500 federal tax credit, which the Tesla Model 3 (non-performance) doesn't even qualified for starting in 2024!! Only a small number of EVs are qualified for the tax credit and its the main reason why people aren't buying right now.
That and so many don't want a BEV.
@@robertkubrick3738 I think a lot of people want EVs of all kind. The appeal of not paying for gas is very alluring, but the economics still doesn’t work out. The cheapest ev with 7500 credit is the Chevy Bolt, $21k - $27k out the door. This is great but the Colora Hybrid is the same price but way better overall value.
@@minhpham27 The Bolt is discontinued, so it's such a great value they stopped making it? The $7500 credit is a bone of contention with me. Net Tax payers shouldn't be buying toys for FREE STUFF people.
synth sheep.. i fricken love it!!
I really like the style of your reporting videos. Do you have a video somewhere where you talk about your setup? If not, what software and equipment do you use?
I’ll be on the lookout for Synth Sheep now 😂 the best robotaxi was Johnnycab from Total Recall “Drive…DRIVE!!!”
ZERO chance in HELL all electric is happening! Cannot prodcue, store or transmit the electricity and the entire "GREEN DREAM" is up in smoke! Bring back diesel powered vehicles and leave us the hell alone!!!! LOVE my TDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m a plugin hybrid guy but I have to say that this year after 3 years of ownership I want to move to EV. I probably will not do it because first the future cars look better the existing ones, second the price it’s not there yet. Saying that the future it’s not EV it’s not correct the issue is what if you come late to the game that’s the problem. Tesla was there did all this and it’s now almost impossible to take their crown only Chinese and Korean cars maybe could do it but will not… i love Ioniq series by the way and I own a Volvo.
Volvo are Chinese owned!!!!
@@michaeloreilly657 So?
@@michaeloreilly657 that does not seem like a problem this days. There will be more problematic if you said it’s American with the exception of Tesla. Do you prefer a GM car even a Ford? I don’t think so.
I've got my Pop Rocks and Coke Zero and I'm buckled in !!! Let's go !!! If Polestar, Rivian, and Lucid made hybrids instead of EVs, these companies would be hitting grand slam home runs.
If the future is autonomous, then what would Toyota or GR’s sports cars in the EV age be like, just like the FT-Se concept?
New Honda Odyssey in April !!
Toyota marketing are such a g for that anime marketing campaign
Oh yeah we need more Toyota anime reviews 🏎️💨
loving those anime competition!
I just saw you can get a brand new Challenger for under 21k in California...but here in Alabama they start out at 15k more.....crazy, definitely worth getting a bus ticket......off topic, but the car market is going down, and EVs, which people want even less, will really suffer
The US should follow what is happening over the pond in the UK, where as of 1st of January 2024 each manufacture must sell 22 BEVs out of every 100 or face a fine of 15000 GBPs per car. Next year it rises to 24 out of every 100 and this number is accelerating to 80 out of 100 in 2030. My suggestion is that the manufactures will just add that cost say 3000 per none BEV this year and rising up to 12000 at 2030 to cover the government Net Zero tax on cars.
Yes, I saw this animated already. It's good
Thank You for posting all the new and old prices. I would love to see a hybrid version. They could compete against Toyota. Still owning a hybrid. I still think the system could do better. So maybe just need to improve battery materials and capacity. Then we can mass produce these without tearing apart the earth and its people.
Buy credits, lol what a scam. Our government is a clown show of epic stupidity.
Good for Tesla however.
Carbon credits is a global system.
But Toyota is eating off its hands due to a losing bet! They should have got in when Tesla did...
I think and hope that our future is not strictly EV vehicles and would be more hybrid based with carbon neutral fuels or even hydrogen.
Unless they make hybrid way cheaper than EV, I don’t think hybrid will win. Hopefully Toyota lower Prius to $20k and Rav4 to $25k without Mark up. But i don’t know why they refuse to ramp up volume and make them cheaper
@@MrQuay03 I agree that volume on those vehicles is way too low. There isn’t enough electricity in most countries to have everyone switch to EV’s and they require a lot of upfront resources for their batteries. I think they are working on synthetics for batteries which would be a big help and they really need to reduce charge times in a real life scenario for it to actually work…in my opinion.
I think going majority hybrid and plug in hybrid is a good way to decrease fossil fuel use. Customers do like these better
Of they release a Sienna PHEV with a good 35 mile of true EV range, they won't be able to make them fast enough.
Big rigs have to change over to the fast lane when I get on the freeway. I'm thinking I'll probably buy a used Tesla model Y and put an off road package on it, for my next vehicle, until the Japanese get their sh*t together.
"Synth Sheep" Lol! I'm going to be using that term now
So proud to have 3 Toyotas right now.
Toyota is leaving everyone in the dust because Toyota isn't run by crooks.
100% on board with toyota's forward thinking. If north American govt's keep pushing too hard with the green iniatives Toyota might start pushing back by slowing or stopping their sales to North America because of non compliance.
Wait. Don’t rush into BEV’s. There is a right time for everything. Be patient.
Why organic cheese is better than government cheese.
Hey kirk can you name your sunday ev video somethkng like "This week in Evs with date " or something like that. I think it will be easily recognisable (i missed it last week because i didnt know it was the sunday ev update)

Didn’t you hear about the feet of snow in California? We have to do something. I know you’re in Florida, but get real man. You want a V8 or something, buy one now.
Smart but don't get too smart to limit production to prioritize profit over demand.
Hopefully they'll get their quality control in check soon, mainly with the Tundra. These problems that keep rearing their ugly-heads are pathetic at best. Especially these engine replacements they're having to deal with. This isn't the Toyota I've known for the past 40yrs. Somethings just not right.

Dude, Toyota released their all EV BZ4X this month - a mass market all electric car.
Smart and logical guy.
They don't have a better team.
loved the anime breakdown
They're not perfect, but Toyota is the best there is.
Fun episode!
You either have
EV: A needlessly expensive battery that is WAY bigger than you need 90% of the time just so you can get home on that final 10%, or you just can't go anywhere farther than x miles.
Can’t lie. I have my eye on the 2025 Camry!
Can't believe Toyota showed the BMW Sup. racing in their Toyota video.... lol
I don't even see 30% of the population buying electric by 2030. Electrics are (at best) a second car for big city dwellers. The rest of the country will never want one unless they are cost competitive and functionally the same or better than a gas vehicle. Electrics will never be that.
Lol. Kirk calls the computer evil eye like the one from "wall-e". Shows your age 😂. Theyre both referencing Hal 9000 from "2001 a space odyssey"

(Come on Nissan/Infiniti!!)
Regarding Toyota's anime and the future portrayed there, kind of remind me The Simpsons' "Baby You Can't Drive My Car" episode, with a "1984" vibe in it. Who would want a future like that? 😂😂
I prefer to drive "the freedom mobile" in an old fashion way. 😎😎
- Toyota is just following Supply and Demand
Toyota is investing on hydrogen that seems like a dead end, and instead is doing a very timid investment on EV. It's just Toyoda (the CEO) personal position as a EV hater.
Nobody knows the future for sure, but there are great chances that EV will dominate the future market. And Toyota is loosing the technology competition in EVs against other brands.
They are not investing in EV which seems great on short term because the small EV share. We will see what happens in the future if EV continues to grow in S-curve.
Toyota lost the race on BEV technology and, as a result, doesn't know what to do!
Got my 🥨 ☕, enjoying this! 😁 - A Toyota-fan.
