I think my favorite complaint that I saw someone on twitter make was that "exploration is a lie because I can't land on this planet" and they took a picture of a gas giant.
Am I really exploring space if the world isn't stupendously hostile to life? If the atmosphere of some planet isn't vertically flying ice knives, are you really exploring the cosmos? If you can't get crushed like a grape by the gravitational well of an unfathomably large round fart, are you truly free? Dying hideously is the true essence of the cosmos.
@@PutkisenSeta I appreciate your logic, but planets that immediately kill you as soon as you enter the atmosphere would 100% be reported as bugs and detract from the game. It happened with similar features in No Man's Sky; development previously had the day/night cycle be tied to your position on the planet, so flying away from a planet and returning in a different hemisphere would give you different lighting. Cool idea, but it had to be removed, because players kept reporting it as a bug with the lighting.
The funniest part is that the game technically doesn't even ask you for your pronouns. It actually assigns your pronouns automatically based on body type, but gives you the option to change them near the end of character customization. It's something you can miss by accident.
It'd be cool if the game just automatically changed it back to the correct sex after you finished the character creation, A lot of people would miss it by accident and pronouns aren't a big deal anyway.
You can't miss it if you're searching for outrage to select. Then it's like winning the lottery for these guys. "SEE?! Look at what they're doing!!!!" Bro, they already asked you for pronouns years ago. "YEA BUT! you couldn't pick 'they/them' in those games and that corresponds to my narrow outdated view that is also the only correct one without nuance. People who select the pronouns 'they/them' can FK OFF AND STOP EXISTING AS HUMAN BEINGS AND START ACTING THE WAY THAT MAKES ME FEEL THE MOST COMFORTABLE AT ALL TIMES!"
I wrote this analogy for someone else. "Alright a guy comes up to me with a box of donuts, tells me I can have one but he will only let me take one once I chose, he hands me a default donut but won't let me take it until I say "yes I chose this donut", he also won't let me leave until I chose. Am I forced to choose a donut, yes or no? Think next time you make a arugment." The game does indeed ask you for your pronouns and it won't allow you to continue until you choose your pronouns, that said it's a meaningless virtual signal as it actually does nothing as the nocs refer to you as the correct pronouns no matter what you chose.

I’ve mostly just seen him on EFAP/Every Frame A Pause, because he (like a lot of people on most parts of all the spectrums, including the political one) knows the hosts and goes on every once in a while. He usually doesn’t do anything but talk about the politics, even though EFAP isn’t supposed to be political at all, which (among certain other things) makes them catch a lot of flak from people, because a lot of people really don’t like rightwing messaging (which I think is an overreaction to it) and the guys that host the show are good people, not wanting to shun their friends for the approval of others. The funniest part is apparently it the game defaults to masculine or feminine pronouns based on the body type chosen, so if you're not making a trans or nonbinary character (so 100% of the people crying about this) you never have to interact with that option at all. It's like complaining about subtitles or colour blind modes. It is a function in a game to make it more inclusive to a small portion of the population that you never have to deal with at all if you're not in that group.
Except that pronouns are just being made up and they have no meaning anymore. It’s like asking a 7 year old what is favorite animal is, there’s no logic to it

Honestly if you think about it in a way. Every game that has some sort off story about a war has politics in it to some extend. So if you really are off that mindset guess we can't do wars in video games anymore. Or battles that have a story around them to begin with. The funniest thing about the whole pronoun thing for me is that my name in my language is usually associated with a girl, but I'm a straight guy, and yet every time i talk to a person over call, they assume im a girl and i have to correct them. I used to be mad, but now its just a matter of correcting them and all is good. I've never made a big deal about it, and I've never had anyone judge me over it. These people are genuinely insane if they are just mad if someone is asking what they are usually called as.

Some people implying that videogames are an 'escape' from queer people is extremely messed up. The game itself doesn't look very impressive so I probably won't play it anytime soon.

Can't help but think of old rpg titles where the npcs have the same voice acting independent of your gender, y'know, using they/them cuz of budget n stuff, I imagine how these people would react, I'm actually happy to see this change, cuz now we can actually feel like more of ourselves and our characters in-game for that sweet immersion value

Funny how deep some games go with player customization where you can slap a mondo hog or massive waifu chesticles or make a hybrid of both on your character, just givin a lil option to add a tag to an identity gets people butt frustrated is bonkers brother.

Cassette Beasts (HIGHLY recommend it BTW) asked me for my pronouns. There's even an option in the character creation screen to give your little pixel character a headscarf if you want to. Did I throw a tantrum? No, because I'm a grown-ass adult.
I had a game with different color balance settings for people with different types of color blindness or just different types of vision and I thought it was a cool feature even though I didn't use it.

I agree, this plus the thing from FO4 where NPCs could call you by your character’s actual name if it was on the list are sick. I will admit, as someone who grew up in a traditional setting (im 24) , I don't understand non-binary people and gender neutrality as a label that people want to go by. I dont hate it though, I just see it as another modern thing being added into video games and other media that doesn't (and obv isnt supposed to) pertain to me, and it makes me roll eyes sometimes. But I would definitely not get as angry as that British guy UNLESS it was added in a very spiteful or tasteless way (like the HBO show Velma for example.)

honestly its a 10 second button press for you, and in starfield in particular you have to go out of your way to change from the default cisgender pronouns (as it should be) its an extremely small inconvenience for someone like you but for someone who is non-binary or intersex it means alot and allows them to play as themselves
Ok but like, you can now take a game like this and explore other genders than your own, yanno? Have a body like yours and use different pronouns, or keep your pronouns and play with a different body. Not only do options like this make games more accessible, it also allows for more varied Role Play (the RP in RPG) and allows people to explore these things in a safe environment.

It's impossible to make an apolitical game. Any game has some notion of what it considers good, which implies the opposite or destroying that is bad. If someone calls a game apolitical then it's just either voicing support for the status quo or happens to agree with the viewer. If the political landscape were to shift then the game would suddenly appear "more political" (aka more people disagree with it)

I like a world where you can have your opinion, anti pronoun folks can have their opinion, and everyone can make fun of everyone without brown shirts rolling up and arresting anybody. My lineage is Jewish, and I have picked up books before as opposed to burning them. My fear is one side, probably the one people fear the least at this moment will eventually start arresting people who voice an opinion that goes against the mainstream. This is why I will never go far to either side and why I question EVERYTHING. For example, why did Bethesda have to add controversy to a game? The thing about asking for pronouns in this game is hilarious, cause it is like how when signing up for something, they ask for your email, a bio for yourself, and maybe even pronouns, so when I heard of this, I laughed and imagined “So what, are we signing up for a website or doing a character creation for a game?” 😂

It happened with similar features in No Man's Sky; development previously had the day/night cycle be tied to your position on the planet, so flying away from a planet and returning in a different hemisphere would give you different lighting.
Cool idea, but it had to be removed, because players kept reporting it as a bug with the lighting.
The funniest part is that the game technically doesn't even ask you for your pronouns. It actually assigns your pronouns automatically based on body type, but gives you the option to change them near the end of character customization. It's something you can miss by accident.
It'd be cool if the game just automatically changed it back to the correct sex after you finished the character creation, A lot of people would miss it by accident and pronouns aren't a big deal anyway.

The funniest part is apparently it the game defaults to masculine or feminine pronouns based on the body type chosen, so if you're not making a trans or nonbinary character (so 100% of the people crying about this) you never have to interact with that option at all.
It's like complaining about subtitles or colour blind modes. It is a function in a game to make it more inclusive to a small portion of the population that you never have to deal with at all if you're not in that group.

The funny thing to me is, the game doesn't even *ask* you for your pronouns. It assumes you're referred to by whatever cis-pronoun is attached to your chosen bodytype, and you can then press a button to change it. That's how easily annoyed these people are.

I will admit, as someone who grew up in a traditional setting (im 24) , I don't understand non-binary people and gender neutrality as a label that people want to go by. I dont hate it though, I just see it as another modern thing being added into video games and other media that doesn't (and obv isnt supposed to) pertain to me, and it makes me roll eyes sometimes. But I would definitely not get as angry as that British guy UNLESS it was added in a very spiteful or tasteless way (like the HBO show Velma for example.)

Ok but like, you can now take a game like this and explore other genders than your own, yanno? Have a body like yours and use different pronouns, or keep your pronouns and play with a different body. Not only do options like this make games more accessible, it also allows for more varied Role Play (the RP in RPG) and allows people to explore these things in a safe environment.

It's impossible to make an apolitical game. Any game has some notion of what it considers good, which implies the opposite or destroying that is bad. If someone calls a game apolitical then it's just either voicing support for the status quo or happens to agree with the viewer. If the political landscape were to shift then the game would suddenly appear "more political" (aka more people disagree with it)
What people mean by "politics" is very contemporary, current day politics, that favor one side. Not something humankind has struggled with for ages (oppressor and oppressed for example), which usually everyone can relate to to some degree.

My lineage is Jewish, and I have picked up books before as opposed to burning them.
