Looking forward to this Mac Mini just to learn the modern-day MacOS and hopefully a new base with ports is available - the Satechi one out now is incredible
I heard a rumor that the new Mini (probably the Pro) would come with an SDXC slot, but now it sounds like maybe not. My 7 yr old iMac 27" has one, and it's how I download images from my camera for editing. I'm looking to upgrade, but the even though the Studio has an SDXC slot, it's more device (and cost) than I need. So I guess it's a Mini and a seperate card reader.
I currently have an Intel i9 iMac from 2020 with 64G Ram. My M2 Macbook Air w 24G Ram runs circles around the iMac when doing complex 3D modeling with Fusion 360 - some complex steps take an hour to complete. I plan to replace the iMac with a Studio Display and an M4 Mac Mini or Studio. So if Apple doesn't bring out the M4 Mini and M4 Studio at the same time, I will buy the most souped up M4 Mini and test it for my CAD work. If it isn't much of a boost from my M2 Macbook Air, I will return the Mini and wait for a studio with an M4 Ultra cpu and gobs of Ram.
Apple is changing the Mac Mini with the new M4 Mac mini. The Type A port is most likely going to be removed. This will affect those that need a Type A port. The solutions are: A) Get a Type A to Type C adaptor dongle. B) Get a Bluetooth mouse. Most wireless mouses use a Type A port. Bluetooth mouses don't need a Type A connector. C) Get a docking station from Satechi to cover all the port needs that the Mac Mini lacks. It should be released in a month afterward. D) Get an BaseUS dongle. It has all the ports you need and costs $20. 3 Type A ports, 1 HDMI 2.0 port, 1 Full-size SD card reader, and 1 Micro-SD card reader.
I've been using my M3 Pro MBP 14 as both a travel device and a desktop replacement, and for my USB-A peripherals I have a simple powered hub with four C ports for 3 A ports. I'm seriously leaning toward picking up one the new M4 minis, and if I do I'm all set. Thanks for the informative video.
I'm upgrading from an intel i9 MacBook Pro (I almost never take it with me anywhere, sits on my desk 99% of the time). Tossing up getting an M2 Pro Mac Mini, or wait for the new ones to come out, but the price for an M2 Pro is very reasonable at the moment. Worried that the new M4 Mac Minis will come with a new price too...
Yeah that’s a tough one, but depending on your workflow, the M4 might be all you need. I don’t expect a big price hike. Maybe $100 for the base model. When I went from the16” i9 2019 to the 14” M1 Max … WOAH.. it was life changing.
Supply chain sources and other have confirmed with almost 100% certainty that the M4 variant (non-pro/non-studio) will be missing a port a lot of people use. If someone is in need of a new machine and waiting to upgrade, this information is helpful. I’m sorry it isn’t for you.
@@JBlakePhoto yeah it's helpful for me! I am thinking of getting this M4 mac mini and have logitech keyboard and mouse that use a old Usb-A port so I put those little adapters in my amazon list when I do buy it so I don't have to buy a new keyboard or mouse.
It is interesting to speculate, but I think that we should just wait until the thing gets released, and then just get whatever accessories suits your workflow. I am looking forward to the upgraded MacStudio.
I waited since april and saved for the new macmini and there wasnt any. Apple only cares about selling iphones and expensive watches and earphones. Ill have to search for a small computer with linux or android but dont want to ever return to anything microsoft.
This is such a nothingburger. There are lots of awesome looking docks that take Thunderbolt and give you all the ports you want. There are 5 dollar C to A converters that let you plug your old cables in. USB C/Thunderbolt is such a superior standard that can be adapted to anything - it’s high time the legacy ports died.
Yes we use printers -but I bought one ten years ago that connects to my wifi. I can print from all my devices without worrying about cables. My 2017 MacBook Pro only had USB-C ports anyway. If you really want to use USB-A stuff there are adapters, docks and hubs.
Really hoping we have a surprise with the M4 Mac Studio being released next week.

Would a wired keyboard and mouse work with USB-A adapters? I rather them wired than Bluetooth.
Yes, that should work great. Honestly I should have included that in the video.

That’s where. I’m at exactly, agree that the need for the port has not been as common, but when I do, I have an Anker hub.

I have a printer that uses USB-A though I only use the printer once or twice every six months or so.
If it supports 3 monitors, then I’m onboard and pulling the trigger ! It’s what held me back from buying M2 Mac Mini
have you heard anything about Thunderbolt 5?
Nothing as of this moment, I’ll keep you posted if I do.
Great update, and yes I placed my order for adapters and hubs.
Awesome! Thank you!
I wanted my macmini this month because my older machines (2010-2012) are falling apart really fast.
The Mac mini M4 not being released at the time of this video how do you know anything relevant about its features despite doing a clickbait video ?

Apple should make a new device merging basic ipad with apple tv but with more ports.

I ah went heard one way or another of the studio will have additional ports beyond the USB-C/TB ports. I’ll report as soon as I know.
Time to switch to desktop pc if apple discontinue usb a
I’m pretty sure most people would consider the Mac Mini a desktop?
@@JBlakePhoto Desktop sounds like a 90s cluncky PC with windows and a big noisy power supply
Maybe Octobre for mac mini and else...

Are you people not using a printer or scanner? Those still have USB-A. And my original Magic Keyboard has USB-A to lightning cable.... shame on Apple!
U r right

I think most folks using printers and scanners are using them wirelessly.
You DON’T KNOW what features the Mini will have as it’s not out yet.
You’re right…. No one knows anything until after it has been released that’s true 😉
