When I was in my twenties here in Birmingham UK I walked into The Diskery in Hurst St and the guy behind the counter said;"What are you looking for?" I said I; 've no idea!" He reached under the counter and said "Try this!". In those days you could go upstairs and listen. The EP was Charlie Parker with Nows the Time Chi Chi Confirmation and I Remember You.
I sold my collection later when struggling financially, and regretted it. RUclips gave me the pleasure of rediscovering why I loved it all these years! Loved that piano solo!
Love the Caillou theme quote at 11:09 😂
Such a treat to hear 3 completely different burning alto players backed by a world class rhythm section!
i love the 3 different approaches to their solos barbash is ultra hip loves the way in incorporates motiffs of the comp into his solo *****
Thanks. So based on this comment (and not knowing the players, it was Robinson, Hanahan and Barbash). Fantastic, like you said, the different approaches. Summit
Eddie Barbash solo is fuc*** amazing!
Hanahan is so incredibly killing
That first solo. Goddamammamamamama
Eddie killed it. So smart in his moves
Fine, fine solos from everyone. Especially loved Mr Barbash. Thanks to everyone for the music!
Eric Dolphy lives on in the guy in the blue shirt👌
this is amazing
Great fun! Three completely different approaches beautiful !
Thank you so much for isolating this track, it was my favorite of the entire shining streaming
Good stuff! Love it!
The state of The Alto is fantastic! Absolutely burnin soloists! Wow! Brilliant players and phenomenal rhythm section! I want more!
Needs more alto saxophone.
Sarah killing!!! Fantastic solo, brava!
This was Killin!!!!
So good !!!!
I enjoyed the entire stream on Monday evening, but thought this was the highlight. Great players, all of you.
same!
Alto Madness! Love it - yes, biased, but still. Great tune and great playing.
Felicidades suena hermoso, fuerte saludo desde Bogotá Colombia
I can't believe they just added the shout chorus from Neal Hefti's Splanky in the middle of the tune. Took me a second to realize what was going on.
Justin really is the master wow
Hello to Sarah from Marlboro Mass. Good job
Smooth as silk folks.
wht can be sid about emmet nuff said ,,love that count basie lick emmet the king of piano
So much swing. Have mercy.
11:08-11:16: WOW
Sarah has some outside tricks on her sleeve! No boring blah-blah-blah too. And she burns!
all the professors at my college watch these. guys i’ve played with have transcribed solos from these. it’s like these are becoming a lil beacon of improvisation.
one used emmet as an example of shell voicings in my piano class even lol
Thats really cool to hear, Id love to major in Emmet Cohen studies lmao
That bird lives quote at 3:24
I love it too!!! but I can't remember what song it was...
@@arnaugarrofe3559 Bird Lives lol
i like how the bassist is wearing socks. so chill.
its a vibe!
Hey the on the right plays in John Batiste’s band on the late show
Second cat definitely got the feel down. The first guy is an excellent player don’t get me wrong, but feeling is everything!
Both Justin and Sarah seem to have a lot of Vincent herring influence
Barbash got that hard gutbucket sound. fuck. awesome.
sarah has that jackie mclean energy
That's exactly what I was hearing/thinking - so fucking awesome.
Nice 👍❤️
Nice alto sound. Whoah, that phrases and hip playing. Surprised by Splanky at Emmet's solo
Waiting for Chad Lefkowitz-Brown. I'm sure he one of most insane and unique sax players in the world.
When I heard him start the Splanky riff, I just sat here with a big smile on my face.
@@bobtaylor170 same
EDDIE
attack of the altos
10:02 Splanky!
Anyone knows the name of the tune she's quoting on 3:22 ?
Bird lives
@@charlesperforms Thank you very much!!! Now time to learn it!
Sarah sounds fantastic! Please come join me on my podcast, Sarah. I think it would be a nice conversation.
11:07 3:22
Hey Emmet you should mix it so the Left and Right are Audience left and right rather than performer left and right! Just a suggestion :)
Ice cube on sax
Blue shirt gave me resting stank face
Dolphy, McLean, and.. Eddie Barbash ?
Good to see 3 alto players.
Johnny Hodges?
@@charlesperforms Lester Young with an alto?
Freddie Mercury with a sax?
Definitely Eddie Barbash.
@@grrregetienne8401 LOL sax freddie mercury
Dolphy?! Nah son🤣
Is it just me or does Red Garland meet Thelonious Monk here?
8:38 a little confirmation !!
I believe it's Blues for Alice but it was definitely cool how he worked it in!

A bit of Eric Dolphy vibes/influence from dude in glasses.
Mustash sax dude looks like rick de la stick

Tone died when Johnny Hodges passed away.
You can't have everything! 😅 Let us be grateful
I didn’t like any of the alto players, but you’ve never heard Bird, Cannonball, Phil Woods?
3:21 holy shit how does Sarah manage to play that in the most non swingin way possible? Also Evan Sherman sounded like he literally fell down the stairs after that break. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
