Randy, u will likely never see this but i just want to say that as a player of 50+ year and a kid who grew u on the beatles, i feel i know what great music is. And if i were to make a list of the greatest 10 songs ever written, Undun without a doubt would be on that list. You can credit those jazz books if you wish, but a song that otherwordly doesn't just happen because you learned some jazzy chord subsitutions from a book. That came thru you from some source that gifted you. Undun is Unreal. Thank you for writing it. This is a song worthy of being played at one's funeral.
I've played guitar for a long, long time and have always loved this song. Since I couldn't figure it out on my own, I finally realized I could check RUclips. Figured that someone would have some kind of breakdown of it even if it wouldn't be quite right (like so many examples on YT) When Undone taught by Randy Bachman popped up, my eyes practically popped out of my head. What a wonderful and unselfish gift from a great musician. Thank you so much Randy .
Mr. Bachman, Thank you for making this. I am 25, and absolutely love with 70s and 80s music; The guess who in particular! I first got into Guitar by being blown away / inspired by Mark Knopfler's playing around 2 years ago and since then have been practicing. It bring me great joy to learn Undun from the artist who wrote it, I don't think people realize how epic this is. Thank you!!!!
My God, Randy Bachman himself showing how to play Undun ? I had a mouthful of iced tea that I spewed across my PC monitor and keyboard and chocked on for 10 minutes when I first saw this. Thanks so much for taking the time, sir. You are so respected and loved.
Music takes me to another place This song never gets any air play in my country sadly... I just love it too bits I request it on our local radio station as much as possible 🙏
Thank you Randy for EVERYTHING! I know you are busy...so we appreciate you sharing your songs and how to play them! No one can touch you for down home rock n roll. You are too kind. A guitar player who has been a serious fan since the beginning. Wish you were my big brother! You and Burton were a deadly combination that was hard to be beat...until B.T.O. Amazing band too. Thank-you from the bottom of my guitar case! 😎
Humble, honest, cool, brilliantly harmonic, and super talented...! But most of all, a real representative of what music was about in the past. Unlike today's discardable, monotonous lousy pop, good old rock was honest, cool, brilliantly harmonic, and made by super talented people... like Randy Bachman!!
Ever listen to vinyl tap? Randy Bachman would be the first to tell you how great "today's" music is...you just need to know where to look..start with Vinyl Tap and CBC Mornings...not "discardable" at all
Mr. Bachman I'm so so glad to see your still Takin Care of Business. Thanks for all the great music, I never knew you were doin this. THANK YOU BROTHER.
Mr. Bachman FYI my grandmother was born in Canada. I have been there many times. I'm finally gettin Undone down. Appreciate the fact you have time to address fans. 😁😎👍
Another classic. It reached out and grabbed me hard when it was first released all those years ago. I’ve never tired of it. The chord changes and Burton’s vocal are pure sonic bliss. Especially at the end of the tune where it stops and Burton’s voice breaks as he sings “she’s...come...un...dun.” The chemistry between Randy and Burton was extraordinary.
When I came across this tutorial, I I knew he was from Bachman-Turner Overdrive, but I did know about the Guess Who. I thank this man, the freakin' writer!!, for giving us this lesson for his composition. It's just too fantastic to even think it could happen. I am so grateful for people like him who take their time and show us how it's done. What a great soul to do so. My hat is off to you, Mr. Bachman, and I bow in respect (literally doing so as I type). Thank you!
I remember watching “Midday” on CBC in the early 90’s when they had the Guinness world record of most people playing a song on a guitar…Taking Care of business…being led by Randy himself. Fantastic day…
Randy Bachman has been a favorite and an influence my whole life ( I'm 57 ). I like his work with The Guess Who and BTO, but especially Not Fragile album ... thanks for a heck of a lot of great music Randy
First album I ever bought as a 12 year old..where I was looking to get the biggest bang for my buck was "The best of the Guess Who". To my ears...Undun was. and remains my favorite GW song and have long wanted to know how to play this! Thanks Randy!! Nearly 50 years..but worth the wait!!
I can't explain in words how much I loved hearing "Undun" on the radio back in '69. The song was like being beamed aboard the USS Enterprise for a couple 'a minutes. For a trad rock band, those chords are so nice and tight!
Thank you so much for showing us how this song is played. You have been a guitar influence of mine throughout most of your American radio career. It's amazing to see it taught by the one who wrote it.
I Love Randy Bachman. He kept me and all of my friends out of trouble with his positive lyrics and great motivational music throughout the 70s and forward. Unlike much of rock at that time, his words hinted at, or just came right out and plainly said, "Don't get yourself in trouble" or "Be a trouble shooter". We paid attention and it worked. Thank you, Randy Bachman!!!
From what I've read, this song was inspired by an incident in which a girl jumped out of a window after taking acid. But I think it can also be about anything hard to get out of that people get themselves into.
Just starting to learn how to play guitar. Might as well watch the master in action. At least I'm happy to say that I still have my vinyl album of Packed Wheat. Bought it in 1970 at Do-Re-Mi on Pico Blvd.
I love how Randy ends the video with 'that's it!". like me watching the video would ever give me his guitar skill! I have enjoyed this song since it first came out and it's still at the top of my playlist.
Listening to CKY NowFlower on Sat afternoons in Winnipeg was amazing' here's this band from home town Wpg. who's tunes are played on rotation along with the Doors, Blue Cheer and Zeppilin. and all the hard core rockers had Not Fragile, which is still one of the greatest albums of all time. Those were the days man. Thank You for the awesome memories.
Thanks Mr. Bachman. BTO II was my first album as a teenager, and I also got Not Fragile and Four wheel Drive 8-track tapes :-( !!! Many hours listening to your great guitar playing. Lookin good!!
Minor correction - At 2:26, the B chord diagram is incorrect. Move the 4 finger "dots" down by 1 string. Randy also adds a sus4 note momentarily with his pinky on string 2 (Fret 5) at 2:27.
Brother Bachman, Thank you so much for decades of beautiful guitar, music and your perfect voice accompaniment, with the Guess Who, and then, Bachman-Turner Overdrive !!! Always, loved your great talent, thank you, and your family for sharing you with us, all this time !!!! Prayers of Faith for you and yours.. With Love, Dan Franco
My word Randy, how very nice of you to take the time to sit down and share your work and break it down for others to learn to enjoy playing as intended:) Back in the day, for me it was all about guitars, but these days I've been playing exclusively bass for the past 13 yrs or so, (haven't played guitars since I got bit by the bass bug:) But now, you leave me no choice but to go pull out one of my guitars to work on some of your awesome guitar work. Mr Lee Sklar has also been so very humble in sharing many interesting things he's learned and experienced through his life too. Thanks so much and have a healthy and fun 2023 out on the road doing what you do:)
I'm only a few years younger than Mr Bachman. When I was a kid, if we wanted to learn a song, we bought the sheet music for 35 cents and took that to our guitar teacher on Thursday after school. Today you tune in to RUclips anytime, day or night, and the original artist shows you how to play it. You young musicians of today have a lot of great resources. Thanks Mr Bachman. And thanks in advance to all the future "Mr Bachmans"..🙂
At 4:18 James Bond sequence, Randy avoids picking the 4th string for these chords - especially for the "C# cord" shape. He does mention the emphasis on the octave note pairings on strings 2 and 5.
Lots of rockin with BTO in the 70s! You were there in my teen years and I want to thank you and your band mates also when you were in the Guess Who your the best!!!
P. S. I saw Burton with Ringo's all star band at Camp Pendleton. That was one of the best concerts I'd seen. A cavalcade of the best music in the history of mankind. 👍👍👍😎
Ah man, so cool. Always has been my favorite Guess Who song, the clean jazz chords with the airy vocals, just perfection. Thanks for walking me through the chords so I can learn it, love this song.
One of? This has been driving me nuts for 55 years. I finally know now, how to play it. Now, I need a year to practice it. This is one of 3 songs I've been unable to replicate. Reeling in the Years, and Sultans of Swing are the other two.
It's a bit awkward, but for those of us with small hands, there is a way to play the Cflat5 chord without using your thumb. You use your middle finger to fret the bass C note on the 6th string, as follows: C - Middle finger, 6th string 8th fret C - Pinky, 4th string 10th fret E - Ring finger, 3rd string, 9th fret F# - Index finger, 2nd string, 7th fret To do the change to the B chord, all you have to do is slide your pinky, ring, and middle fingers down one fret, while keeping your index finger where it is. Like I said, it's awkward; but it is definitely doable. I knew all along what was happening harmonically with this intro, but I was never able to work out this fingering until just now, watching this video. Besides being a great musician, I think Randy Bachman has some guitar teacher in him, lol!
Oh my God, that's awesome! I've been playing for years and this has always been one of my favorites! Thanks, Randy. What a classy, jazzy composition. Pure genius. Love you and thank you for all the memories. I graduated HS in '79 and have been listening to your work since about '75. God bless.
Best way to learn it... From the guy who wrote it!
Cant argue with that! You tube kicks ass .
What a thrill to get a semi private lesson from the riff master
What guitar does he have?
Randy, u will likely never see this but i just want to say that as a player of 50+ year and a kid who grew u on the beatles, i feel i know what great music is. And if i were to make a list of the greatest 10 songs ever written, Undun without a doubt would be on that list. Thank you Randy for writing absolutely one of the coolest songs of all time.
More than cool, it's one of the best ever!
And the only thing that is better is that he shows us how to do it!
Too many!
Always loved the jazz influence, even before I knew that's what it was.
Mr. Bachman, Thank you for making this. I am 25, and absolutely love with 70s and 80s music; The guess who in particular! I first got into Guitar by being blown away / inspired by Mark Knopfler's playing around 2 years ago and since then have been practicing. Thank you so much cherish you 🎉❤❤❤
There will never be a cooler set of changes. This song hypnotized me before I could read or tie my shoes, and it's spanned my life with me.
This is so nice. The contentment of being taught by a musician who had such an impact in your teenage years is a really good feeling. Thank you Randy.
My God, Randy Bachman himself showing how to play Undun ? I had a mouthful of iced tea that I spewed across my PC monitor and keyboard and chocked on for 10 minutes when I first saw this. Thanks so much for taking the time, sir. You are so respected and loved.
Randy is one of the most underrated guitar players of all time. From hard rock, to jazz to blues. Flashier players yes....better players not many!
thank you so much Randy from a french guy who remember listening this song in daddy's car in the early 70's. I will play it for him.
I'm a big fan of Randy. Great musician and writer .
❤❤❤❤
Wow learning from the great Randy Bachman. Thanks please do more.
One of favorite songs of all time
Not only the lyrics is haunting, these substitute chords made them so intriguing as well.
Truly one of the greatest guitar pieces of all time. Thanks for this, Randy.
This floored me when I found Randy Bachman himself teaching the song. Thanks for this and all the great music.
Thanks to Randy’s musical sensibility, a rock generation was taught a little about Jazz.
Music takes me to another place
This song never gets any air play in my country sadly...
I just love it too bits I request it on our local radio station as much as possible 🙏
That’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
I knew Randy would have a tutorial version on this song. I saw him on his solo tour doing vinyl tap about his own music. It was awesome. Thanks Randy!
Those rock jazz chords are beautiful and uplifting
I didn't expect Randy to be such a gentle soul. That was a treat. I still have my
45rpm of "Let It Ride". Thank you BTO !
The Guess Who was such a fantastic band with so many great songs. One of my favorite albums was Share The Land.
I grew up listening to you Mr. Randy!!!
Thank you Randy, this was such a great lesson. This chord progression is brilliant!
Burton Cummings was only 21 when that song was recorded, Randy only a few years older. Fantastic.
I've been playing this *wrong* for 40yrs ! Thanks Randy !
Thanks Randy... saw you with BTO in San Diego in the mid-later 70's. great memory. Thanks for giving back....class act.
Incredibly down-to-earth and hugely under-rated. A true Canadian icon ! Thank you for being such a class act and a patient guitar teacher. LOL
Good post.

Funny, your take on today's music was my Dad's take on Bachman's music. Oh, I'm sure dad went to the mat with his dad over jazz!
Undun is one of my favorite songs ever! You and Burton belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Thank you for teaching us this incredible tune!
You are a magnificent player. Thank you for your time!!
Waited a lifetime to learn this. Thanks, Randy.
Boy it sure is good to finally know exactly how to play this. Well taught. Thanks much.
For real, no more half-wrong chord charts online lol. Learn it straight from the man himself.
I have a lot of respect for Randy Bachman
One of the most under-rated players on the planet, Randy Bachman is the best!
Love that "Undone" Randy.... always..from first day I heard it.

Very cool!
Being taught a really cool song by the man who wrote it.
Doesn't get any better than that.

OMG!! You are such a genius. I ablsolutely love your music.
Thanks for taking care of business and teaching us all. Your legacy and your work will help people live in harmony.
the creativity using all these voices is what makes this song. Thanks Randy!
Randy Bachman has been a favorite and an influence my whole life ( I'm 57 ). I like his work with The Guess Who and BTO, but especially Not Fragile album ... thanks for a heck of a lot of great music Randy
Bless You Randy for this immortal masterpiece!
I’ve been a fan since the 60’s, would love to see more of these lessons!
The Guess who, and BTO were my favorite bands in high school. Love this. Thank you Rangy Bachman

I stayed awake all night learning that one.
Thank you Mr. Bachman. One of my favorite all time songs.
Thanks for being humble👍👍
It's a Canadian thing. Except for fuckers like Céline Dion and Chad Kroeger.
This video is worth a diamond. Thank you so much for it, cheers from Mexico Mr Bachman..
Thank you for sharing this - you broke it down into real simple steps, and even better - we get to see Randy Bachman doing his thing!
Such a beautiful song you wrote. Thanks for teaching us how to do it. very kind.
Love artists who share, instead of keeping secrets, so much more beautiful and inspiring!
Randy you’re the best!! You and Lenny Breau!
What an amazing song by one of my favourite guitarists!
The high F#m7 and Am7 diagrams are wrong too but this vid is gold.
What a great song! Thanks Mr. B.

His riff and Burtons voice= Perfection 🎸🎶
Randy has always been a super cool dude. We need more people like him...
You are one of the best I love you bro.
Beautiful chord changes. Thx

Thank you for sharing how to play one of my favorite songs. Looking forward to playing it for people who only hear the same old ...!
Have always loved this haunting guitar play, thanks for uncovering these mysterious chords, John, Montreal
Thanks Randy ! I've been a fan since 1970.
one of my heros and canadas best songwriters!
Looks like I’m never gonna play that beautiful song. You’re a wizard!
P. S. I saw Burton with Ringo's all star band at Camp Pendleton. That was one of the best concerts I'd seen. A cavalcade of the best music in the history of mankind. 👍👍👍😎
I remember hearing this song for the first time and was blown away by the guitar work. Simple chords but that arrangement is killer.
I’ve been wanting to learn this song for 40 years. I feel great that I finally learned it thanks Randy!

Freakin Fantastic, Thank You So Much For Sharing Randy
It's a bit awkward, but for those of us with small hands, there is a way to play the Cflat5 chord without using your thumb. You use your middle finger to fret the bass C note on the 6th string, as follows:
C - Middle finger, 6th string 8th fret
C - Pinky, 4th string 10th fret
E - Ring finger, 3rd string, 9th fret
F# - Index finger, 2nd string, 7th fret
To do the change to the B chord, all you have to do is slide your pinky, ring, and middle fingers down one fret, while keeping your index finger where it is.
Like I said, it's awkward; but it is definitely doable. I knew all along what was happening harmonically with this intro, but I was never able to work out this fingering until just now, watching this video. Besides being a great musician, I think Randy Bachman has some guitar teacher in him, lol!
Thank you Mr Bachman! One of my favourites.
Great to see your positive personal reply Randy. GREAT to meet you, at least virtually.
To follow up, the chord diagrams for Am7 (9) around the 5 minute mark were showing the incorrect fret location. Agree?
Thank you for doing this. Always a mystery song to play. Much appreciated.
Thank you, Randy! You are the man.
Great lesson! Thanks so much I’ve been listening to BTO and The Guess Who most of my life!
Oh my God, that's awesome! I've been playing for years and this has always been one of my favorites! Thanks, Randy. What a classy, jazzy composition. Pure genius. Love you and thank you for all the memories. I graduated HS in '79 and have been listening to your work since about '75. God bless.
You wrote a great song, thank you!
