Exactly. Elden Ring is one of the few games where the finished product looks as wonderful as the concept art. Most games I look at the concept art and I'm like "Why does this look SO much better here?". Elden Ring really has that painting-like quality

Most other big games throw huge amounts of money into making their games a 1 to 1 with real life, only for almost all of them to feel aesthetically hollow. From, on the other hand, simply opts for passably good graphics, but saves no expense in making you feel like you’re exploring a medieval fantasy surrealist dreamscape painting. The resulting level of art direction completely blows any other AAA studio out of the water
So many games advertise their graphics as a selling point. "Look at this water! It has simulated waves!" meanwhile the simulated people are moonwalking through walls and getting stuck on rocks.
Same deal for Elder Scrolls games. The actual graphics of all of them have aged like milk, but the art styles of those games more than compensates for it
The thing is, in my opinion, because of the sheer scope and creativity of the designs and skyboxes and everything, it ultimately looks much better graphically to me then the other AAA games
The idea that FromSoftware makes conscious decisions to aim for passable graphics is so hilariously wrong and backwards. If they aim for passably good graphics, performance wouldn't be a huge blemish on almost all of their games - yet it is. There is no trade-off to speak of here, no excuse that explains why both graphics and performance have to suffer. Their games look good in their own way (art direction does all of the heavy lifting), yet run worse than most AAA studio games. The mediocre graphical fidelity and poor performance in their games can only be attributed to incompetence. FromSoftware doesn't ''opt'' for passably good graphics - this is literally the best they can do. Their engine is only slightly iterated upon with every game, and it's always the bare minimum. The whole thing is held together by duct-tape and glue - a giant disservice to their incredible games. And with Japanese developers generally being very archaic, it's unlikely From will ever meaningfully overhaul their engine or switch to a much better one.
Is overall incredible how accurate they were with the concept art translation. Almost makes me try the First Person mod just to appreciate it much better, looks gorgeous.
I am using the FoV mod & I couldn’t be happier, didn’t drastically increase it, I only did it in moderate amounts, it transforms some of the sceneries. The art direction in DLC is something else, it lifted FromSoft to another level of artistry & creativity, it’s crazy! Then there’s someone that said the DLC “lacks creativity.” 😭😭💀

Every Elden Ring frame in the open world area (and some inside dungeons also) might as well be a painting and that is peak artistical direction (it would be a shame if they did not get this award in TGA). Great graphics could not accomplish that alone!

They are getting impressively close to the art, wow. If you look at concept art for DS1 or 2, they got the most important elements, but many details are left out (obviously), here they can replicate even smaller details. I knew it as soon as I entered the hidden 3rd finger ruins that the entire area is straight out of concept art, replicated exactly as the artist drew it. Great job.

Having recently played DS1, I noticed the huge plate where the sap drops on looks like a giant lordvessel, and also in front of a huge doorway. Like a bigger version of DS1's lordvesel and doorway to the Kiln of the First Flame.

While no game has better art than Elden Ring I do still prefer the more toned, grim and realistic colored lighting in the concept arts of both the main game and DLC.

ok, the finger ruins concept art looks exactly like the godskin incantation seal, and marika's statue looks even closer in concept art to the rune of death than it does in the base game. also, i think i finally understood why the scadutree chalice has nothing in it. judging by the concept art, the main feeling they wanted to convey is "abandonment", and since there's no more sap from the erdtree, the chalice used to gather sap has been thrown in the land of shadows, as a remnant of a now forgotten age. it's a reminder to the fading glory of the golden order.
Rather than being thrown away, I'm pretty sure this *was* the vessel that would catch the sap of the Erdtree originally, in the same place it always was. I don't think there's any reason to think otherwise, considering we already know that the Shadow Lands were once a part of the Lands Between (thus overlapping with the land of the Erdtree), and the Shadow Keep was stationed by Marika's family. Oh, also. Not only does it look like the Godskin Incantation Seal, it also looks like Metyr's face.

I really don't like the yellow colors in Elden Ring! They overused it. Almost every place looks the same.
The game speaks of gold, it’s an integral part of the lore, while also being literal.
