@@MyCupofTravelTamilYou should have taken a trip to Katon Karagai in Eastern Kazakhstan Altai mountain ranges bordering Russia and Mongolia.. You can take a flight to Ust Kamenegorsk from Almaty from there 200 kilometres.. Very beautiful mountain ranges region...
You are lucky that your friend arranged a car to go beyond the check post and to reach all the way to the lake (about 5 km). I walked the steep uphill along the pipeline (about 3.5 km and took almost two hrs.) in May. The last 1 km we joined in the road you travelled. During April -May months, if you walk, you can get sight of various spring flowers including wild Tulips, wild apples, etc. The colour of the lake is also different (greenish blue). But definitely its a steep tough trek and memorable hike...
Definitely lucky to have got a car to make it to the lake. I saw many tired faces along the way and there were a few who were returning without making it to the lake. It's definitely a tiring hike.
