  • In this video, I highlight 4 of my orchid plants; 2 are repeat new blooms and 2 are blooming for the first time in my collection. I also show one of my 15 Encyclia tampensis plants, which are close to blooming and end with a question about whether I should offer memberships for my channel with some orchid related perks!!

      @@pauladixon-williams3246 That is Brassanthe Maikai 'Louise'. It was awarded and assigned a cultivar name in 1987. It is an old cross and an old clone. Other Maikai plants are also very nice.

    I definitely would be interested in a membership if it came with extra flasking content. Like maybe more in-depth about wet seed pod vs. dry seed pod, things like that. Either way, I am looking forward to watching whatever it is you end up doing.

      OK - thanks - I think that I will move forward with this. I am considering providing some information that I have not included previously and giving much more detail on my crosses and giving early access and updates to the flasks that I have in the lab. I am also getting way too many seedlings piling up in my nursery so maybe something with those.....

    Thank you for sharing these nice blooms. The way you get your seeds to germinate and grow record fast, I'm surprised your Encyclias didn't bloom inside the jar... 😂... When it comes to fast tracking your seeds and seedlings growth, you rock! I have never seen such fast growth as you get! (still waiting for the "Propagator's Medium Formula" to make it into the market.) I haven't yet deflasked any decent sized plants earlier than two full years in the jar! Also, I haven't become a member of any YT channel yet, so I really don't know much about that. I hope it works well for you!

      Thanks for your comment as always. I will see if there is a good response to the members question. I know others that do this and would like to be able to offer perks to people who want to know more. I am sending out a REALLY nice flask of Dens today that were flasked on Aug 31, 2023 - those got really big quickly.

    Would you consider tree mounting the Brassidium?
    1st time blooms are always exciting! I just had my
    Phalaenopsis Meidarland Chambe flower for the first time and it has a nice spicy/sweet/citrus fragrance! Love the dendrobium! It’s stunning! A membership could be a good idea. Especially if it would benefit those of us who are trying to create our own crosses and flask at home (also I finally have my first flask that isn’t showing contamination after a couple of weeks, but waiting for signs of growth). Maybe one membership tier you could even raffle off having someone send a seed pod for you to flask.

      Thanks - great ideas all the way around! I crossed the Brassidium and it seems to be a good cross. So, if I get thousands of plants, I can certainly mount a few on som trees. I do have a very small yard with orchids on most of my trees so I am even running out of space for that. I do know a lot of people with trees.....

      Do you mean the Oncidium spacelatum? If so, no one has picked it up. If you are taking about Encyclia tampensis, I do sell those in flasks and seedlings. My larger plants have all found new homes. You can contact me at TheOrchidPropagator@gmail.com if you can be more specific with your question, which was not clear to me. Thanks for watching - I am happy that you are watching my channel.

    Is very interesting to watch your videos, I hope you will be able to assist me with this question. I’m a newbie falling in love with orchids however on some of my plants once the new growth comes out it turns black . What I’m I doing wrong?

    • @plantpropagator
      @plantpropagator  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for your comment. This rot of the new pseudobulbs is not good. I assume that the new growth turns black and is soft? Sometimes the new growth is dark red, and firm, which is OK. If it is black and soft (and there is no further growth), you may be dealing with black rot, which is a really bad fungus. This affects Cattleyas the most. First you can try to remove the infected parts of the plant and make sure that the orchid receives better ventilation and is not watered as much. Too much water, high temps, crowding and poor ventilation lead to issues. You can use fungicides as a second step but you should know what fungus you have, before you apply fungicides since they are specific. The fungicides to control black rot are really expensive. Before you do anything, google "black rot orchids" and see if the plants shown look like yours..... Sorry about that - good luck figuring this out!

      @@plantpropagator I try googling it and it did mention fungus, and yes it’s my catlyas does that. Most times it’s after I fertilize so I’m thinking 🤔 might be too much and they got burn?

    • @plantpropagator
      @plantpropagator  4 месяца назад

      Over fertilizing might be the case but orchids respond slowly to fertilizer application and most of the fertilizer probably runs off the roots. You have to really over fertilize to see this and this is a gradual decline in plant health. If you are using close to the recommended levels, you should be OK with fertilizer. If you think that this is an issue, you can wash the fertilizer out of the pot with excess water application. Often, you can see fertilizer salt buildup on the surface - this is more common with plants that are kept inside and the excess fertilizer stays in the bottom of the pot and is not allowed to drain.
