Lovely collection indeed. I also transition to lava rock and my only regret is why I didn’t do it sooner. My environment is way different to yours I am in the Caribbean which is hot with humidity which is orchid heavens😀this said I tried growing orchids the way people up north were growing orchids inside the home. So you can imagine the amount of mistakes I made always rotten roots, mold, bacteria etc., My collection now is outstanding I am on lava rocks two years now. A little advice for more humidity loving orchids I do use the lava rock with small loose layers of moss specially for the phals. Not all orchids will enjoy the rock they will let you know believe me. And there are a few cattleyas that prefer a very thin top layer of bark. But for 95% of my collection they are thriving on the rock never going back. I enjoyed your video and your collection.♥️👏👏

@@lisaallen7219 Hi Lisa! That’s a great question. I would imagine as long as you’re growing indoors it would be fine. But I don’t know your setup or conditions to properly answer that. What I would suggest would be just try one orchid in lava rock and see how it works in your environment for the whole year. During that time you can see if you enjoy working with lava rock, how your orchid is responding. For me, I saw my root production skyrocket and I was sold. I enjoy not having the smell of moss breaking down in my grow space also. Best of luck! Thank you for stopping by and commenting!! 😁🪴
Yes Ariel! It turned out to be Coryanthes macrocorys. Which I’m so grateful for as I ended up enjoying this bloom more than the Coryhopea Woji’s Procrastinator. Thank you for being here and thank you for your comment! Have an awesome weekend 😁
Hi Carol! I water in lava rock as I would any other medium on a wet-dry cycle. Meaning, I let my pot completely dry, then soak my orchid 10-15minutes, allow the access water to drain and place back on the shelf. How often you will water depends on the genera of orchid and your environment. In my personal opinion lava rock is a fantastic medium and I recommend maybe trying one orchid in lava rock just to see how it works for your watering schedule and environment. Happy growing 🪴🌺😁
