    I am glad you did this kind of video. People are inpatient with their orchids, and they try to outsmart timing and care that involves in growing this beautiful things!

      Thanks for your comment. I had not thought about this before but yes, they can think that they saw something incredible in a video that made orchid grow and bloom like magic. I guess that I should not take their hope away for magical things....

    I also saw these type of images on social media and I immediately recognised that there might be something wrong. For me as a beginner, it looked too perfect to exist. I am glad that you have done this video and I hope that more people won't fall in believing these false methods of improving your orchid.

      Thanks for your comment. The thing is, there are videos in between; peole that seem to know what they are doing but do not understand the science. I just looked at a channel today where this guy is making RO water for his orchids because he wants to use pure water. Then, he stores it outside in a tank and algae grows in it. So, it is not real RO water because the algae is feeding on something. And it is best to not use RO water for your orchids in the first place because the orchids benefit from some of the chemicals in regular tap water. These people do present themselves as authorities and it is hard to ignore them.....

    With the advent of generative AI and powerful LLMs there is a sense that determining what is real or not is going to get a lot more difficult. The example you gave in this video is one where anyone with some experience with orchids knows the phal image has been highly manipulated, but most people in the word do not have lots of experience with orchids.
    I've used AI image generation enough to be confident that I cannot get anatomically correct plants in but a tiny fraction of attempts. The producers of these tools have been concentrating on generating human images and if you want a headshot they are really good at putting out images of humans, but not for plants and most other animals.

      When I was the editor-in-chief of my journal and still teaching at the University, I was one of the first to employ plagiarism detection software and that worked well at the time. You are right, with AI and deep fakes, the game has changed a lot. I am glad that I got out before things go so much more complicated!!

      @@plantpropagator I work with FX art for film, video and photography, and it is my area of expertise do do the best fake possible, in the studio. So I know that it has long been possible to do much better than most of the A.I. stuff that is around. But, as you work toward perfection making the fake more believable, it gets exponentially more expensive and out of the reach of the garden variety of internet heckler. Now, as AI improves, it shifts this paradigm flooding the web with these fakes and the common people are usually not equipped with the right amount of information to tell things apart! It amazes me the capacity we humans have for self sabotage!

      @@Naturamorpho I am very old school - I did dodging and burning in a darkroom before Photoshop was even invented. Even in the old days, I had colleagues who would come to me to get the best images from their negatives and complain that I made things look better than they actually were. Now, what I used to do is nothing...... I can still sometimes spot what is fake but it takes some time.

    I'm so glad you did this video!❤ So many beginners get sucked into these fakes and then feel like failures and give up.😢 I have to admit that I almost fell for one or two of them when I first began my orchid journey.🤦🏼‍♀️ Luckily, I'm a pessimist and wanted proof but couldn't find any.😠
    It's too bad RUclips doesn't remove these fakes even when they are reported.🤬

      I am glad that I made this video but I know that the fakes will continue. The thumbnails that are shown really do pull people in but they are clearly fake, along with most of the information in the videos themselves. Thanks for your comment - glad that you enjoyed it. I hope that you know that members can use additional orchid emojis - the more members that I get, the more emojis that I can add for members to use....

    These edited/clickbait videos infuriates me. Because they get more views and more subscribers compared to legitimate orchid growers that aims to help ny sharing proper knowledge, ideas and their experiences throughout the years.

    Oh John! I know how you feel. It’s very discouraging bc these channels are so big and prevalent. I’ve had friends and family point it out like when they tell me about those “tricks” and magical tips. It’s sad but many people probably believe that even though there is no basis or evidence. And those channels have hundreds of thousands of subs. It’s sad. I think though that RUclips now makes them make an acknowledgement that AI enhancement was used but still it’s not enough.

      Thanks for your comment. I thought that I needed to make this video because it is so disappointing that you and I work hard to put together good videos and the false/fake videos are so prevalent and get so many views. And, people talk about AI but these orchid videos do not use AI - people manipulate the thumbnails and the creators intentionally mislead the viewers.

    You should do some RUclips and tiktok reaction videos to those hack videos. I plan to do so on my channel down the road

    What I am discusted with is the fact that when you report frauds on RUclips nothing is done and more videos constantly resurface and its because its all about the creators taking the money paid out by RUclips and it's theft to me....I never watch the video's!! It angers me.

    • @plantpropagator
      @plantpropagator  2 месяца назад +2

      Thanks for your comment. It angers me too but there are apparently lots of people who do watch those videos. I do not know if they believe what they are seeing or just like to watch for fun and then laugh about it because it is so false. It may be like the reality shows that are also not reality.
