      @eniafelamo4923 Год назад +2

      You're right that the H allows for a proper pronunciation of his name. The name isn't supposed to start with an H. Hakeem Olajuwon is Yoruba, and we Yoruba have an H problem (we call it the H factor). We tend to put an H at the beginning of a word that starts with a vowel, and if a word starts with the letter H, we do not articulate the H. That's why "Akeem" turned to "Hakeem". In Nigeria, even though those bearing the name spell it "Akeem," it is pronounced "Hakeem."

    Saw Magic play at Laney Jr College in Oakland California at a high school all-star game when he was a senior. I left that game thinking oh my god. This guy is a man playing with boys.

    Dick Vitale called him Akeem The Dream back then. Vitale had a nickname for damn near everyone back in the day. Vitale told Akeem, "You're Agiiiile, MObiiile, HOStiiile, and you're Not FRAGiile. I don't know who called him The Dream 1st, but he told Akeem that after his freshman year in an elevator. He would call him Akeem The Dream on live air before, and during games. The rest was history after that😁🤘🏾

    What was amazing about those NBA pick up games in the 80's and 90's is there was an incredible word-of-mouth network associated with those games. Men who saw the games would share what they saw with their kin and friends, who would do the same.
    So you'd be in Chicago or Phlly talking about the games Magic refer to even though none of the people in those cities had actually seen the games.

    Hakeem is the GOAT when it comes to not letting the opponent play the game of basketball

    I wish he would have been able to win one of his titles against the world's idol but I can respect both his titles because he played against someone who played his same position and beat them. ( Shaq & Ewing)

    Hakeem probably almost cried when they wouldn't let him play. Passion for a game will do that to you.
