Thanks for the tips! I'm loving Digikam. Did you happen to see how to do a batch merge of HDR bracketed images? The HDR plugins from Hugin and Enfuse are great, but I can't figure out how to do more than one at a time.
Hi xPandaemonium! Thank you so much for watching! After having tried out music for a bit, I've found it's not as complimentary to the video as it sounded in my head. :) Going forward, I'm looking to phase out background music. Hope you were able to find something helpful in the video!
I know you must have gone to a lot of trouble to add background music to this video. However, to me the music detracts from the video and makes it a little harder to understand what you are saying. Why must every video have music these days? Thanks for your intro to this free software.
Hi John, Thank you very much for watching and for the feedback! It seems that a few of my previous attempts to use music didn't go as I hoped, which has proven valuable in my own learning experience of creating content! I very much appreciate your honesty and have been working over the last few videos to make the background music more enhancing rather than distracting. Hopefully, I'm making progress! 😀
@@Photolearningism Honestly, we just don't need it! I, personally, had to stop the video because of the "music". Even when the music is low enough to not annoy, or hinder understanding, what does it really add? Nothing, I would say. As John Bowden says above, why does every video have to have music nowadays? I've never seen anybody complain that a video didn't have music. I've seen plenty complain that it did.
Switched from Lightroom to this one week ago and love it to bits. It is fast and serves the purpose. Selecting, tagging and organizing shoots. Lightroom with its overboarding functionality just grew to a big pain. I can customize how it looks (i like dark colors on the UI). Yes, there are plenty of other free image organizers out there but they look like crap. Also the batch processing works nice. Just loving it! Together with Affinity Photo it makes a perfect match for me.
Hi Don! Thank you so much for watching! Digikam is very robust and I love the innovative ideas built into this tool! It's also very interesting to see how it lines up against Lightroom. Appreciate the feedback!
Hi. I am trying to find a way to import my LR catalog into DigiKam. Do you know a way to do this? I am also changing over to Affinity Photo. Both of these apps are the answer to get out of the Adobe money pit trap. Thank very much.
@@daviddickie945 I did that myself very recently. First, make sure that Lightroom is set to write to sidecar files (.xmp). You find this under catalog settings. Look for "Automatically write changes into XMP". Then I selected all my files in Lightroom, and went to "Metadata->Save Metadata to Files". Personally, I then went and found all the files in Lightroom that I had edited, added them to a collection, then exported them as full-size Tiff files. This was so that I could at least see the end result and duplicate if necessary. Then, you're done. Digikam will pick up all the files, and your keywords, ratings, etc. from the XMP files. I now use a combination of Digikam, Darktable and Affinity Photo.
I wanna say that i fully support all that you do and I also fully support the open source community and am thankful to be a part of it. I have only used digikam for a short time myself but am very impressed by its features. I would love to see other image programs like darktable, krita, or gimp develop some similar features such as the likeness or face detection features. Props to digikam for its photo management! Keep doing what you are doing brother and I will watch everything you throw at us and I highly appreciate your time, knowledge, and effort into this as well!
You don't have to justify that you are not a conspiracy theorist because you turn off a feature you don't need. If you don't need this information, nobody else should need it. So many softwares come with unwanted features that can't be turned off and is collecting data from user. Glad I found DigiKam and your tutorial. Another masterpiece from the open source community that is actually better than most proprietary solutions and that won't go away when some company go bankrupt or is being bought by Google that will kill the project so it don't put shadow over their Google Photos baby.
Thanks a lot for this tutorial! You know how to configure digikam to display thumbnails of removable disks when they are not available, greetings friend
Hi Federico Martinez! Thank you so much for watching! I did some quick checking around in #Digikam, but couldn't find evidence of way to show disconnected devices. If you're curious to explore this further, I'd suggest having a look into the documentation and FAQs, or consider contacting the developers (which are all offered on their page- www.digikam.org/support/). Hope that helps!
Hi dezo kun! Thank you so much for watching! There is a tool included with #Digikam called "Light Table" - More details on how to use can be found here - userbase.kde.org/Digikam/LightTable - Thanks for the great question!
Hi Bruce ACPhoto! Thank you for checking out this video and your interest! For a time, I had (unsuccessfully) tried out using background music, which I've since abandoned because of it's propensity to distract. If you're interested, I did a more recent video on #Digikam (without background music), focusing on the database technology behind it - ruclips.net/video/e1TjjkMSoIo/видео.html
Hi David! Thank you very much for watching and for the feedback! Sometimes music is soothing, energizing, and complementary. Unfortunately, this was not the case with my videos! 😀 I've since stopped using background music in my latest videos as it had become too much of a distraction. I do hope you're able to find some helpful information within the channel~
Hi Glimpse of an Pilgrimage! Thank you so much for watching! For adding metadata to images in #digiKam, this can be done in the "Captions" section (along the right side buttons). This link talks describes how to use it - userbase.kde.org/Digikam/Metadata - Hope that helps!
Hi accentontheoff! Thank you so much for watching! The main value in #Digikam does indeed come from it's asset cataloging and indexing capabilities. In terms of in-depth photo editing, #Linux installers typically include or refer to #Showfoto, which does have some capabilities, but not to level that #GIMP or #Krita would provide. Hope that helps!
TD - why the hell is there soooo much music in your video? I don't understand why new youtubers who do showcase video's have a nasty habit of running their own work with music while in dialog. - GL
Hi ractank! Thank you for taking a moment to watch this video! Perhaps it wasn't clear this was a music video? :) Joking aside, it was made during a time that I was trying to discern whether or not music used in this way was effective for my type of content - turns out it wasn't! In any case, I appreciate you taking the time to check it out!
Two minute waffeling and then not explaing the very basics in a clear language with out ahem-ing and gogin sideways about whwo you organize it ist not helpful. What is with How-To videos and so many people not speaking clearly and in a concice fashion?
Hi al noman! Thank you for the comment - I'm actually not much better at marketing! :) Learning how much talk (or detail) is too little or too much comes with experience, and I've been focusing in my more recent videos at making the message as tight and clear as possible. Thank you for watching and I appreciate the feedback!
What's with RUclipsrs adding background music for no reason? Please give up on the idea of adding "soothing" music. Just don't add any music at all please.
Hi cloudlessx! Thank you so much for watching! Yes, music seemed like such a good idea when I started marking videos, but has since proven to be something of a phenomenon (in a bad way). 😀 As such, I've stopped using music in my latest videos, because it was too distracting. For curiosity, have you had a chance to try out #Digikam?
@@Photolearningism I tried gThumb, Shotwell and Gnome Photos but they are all too limited for my needs. Installed DigiKam but I am still trying to find a way for it to access my photo library which is in a network share. Gnome apps have no problem accessing the share but I don't know how to make it work in a KDE based app yet.
Used DigiKam? What awesome features did I miss in this video?

I know this is maybe old (2019), but do you know is it able to do a multi tag search. Thanks
I installed DigiKam the other day. Burt for some reason it won't show my CR2 files. Any idea's why. I'm well impressed with it, but can't use it.
Is Digikam good enough to be a main photo editor as well. Thanks.
That backbeat (played on spoons?) makes it hard to resolve your speech. Family friendly is nice, tho'.

WHY music in background ? We are not here to get entertain , not to get bored. But to get inform, really no use to put background music.
Sorry man, your "background" music is way too close to the foreground. Can't watch it.

probably a good video but my ears hurt, and gave up
