  • Taking a short break from my tudor fantasy project to visit family in Los Angeles and I wanted to share some of my trip and fabric shopping in the LA fashion district! I went shopping specifically for my upcoming Bridgerton dress series, so watch to the end for a fabric haul! I got lots of beautiful lace and brocade and talk about the different stores you can find and the general shopping experience in LA. I had a ton of fun getting to pick fabric out and letting all of the variety inspire me!

    The shade of your green linen is gorgeous, it will make a beautiful cottagecore dress. I love how cohesive the rest of the color scheme is. That second grey lilac lace is out of this world. I would probably be afraid to touch it for the rest of the eternity, but you're way braver than me luckily. The Baby Bat pillow is adorable!

      Fear of ruining expensive fabrics was one of the things I had to get over really quickly working in costume studios! Some of the fabric we used was over $150 a yard, that was always very nerve wracking to cut into 😭

    You could make an entire series about your interactions with Valentine and I would watch it. Hilarious! Then again, that would involve you seeing him over and over and I would not want you to suffer (or to have to move). Thanks for the heads up about him!

    I'm so glad you were able to get together with your family for something other than sorrow. And aren't bear hugs just the most amazing thing.
    The filming and editing on this is just so good - fantastic back and forth between the vocal story line and the image clips. Spot the B&W photographer trying to figure out how this works in a moving format... laughing.
    Mister Dude in the fabric store that will literally walk through the entire place, roll by roll? That man is an investment in time, absolutely. But he's also one hell of a resources you can turn into a teacher. When he's badmouthing the other fabric you bought - lean into it with a smile. And he will talk (& talk & talk) over 50 years of fabric history and how the industry has changed. Also - never ever go with the first price he offers. If you do it will ruin his day with "damn, should have started higher"...
    If it were any other circumstance than a Pandemic I'd be tempted to show up, 10 minutes after opening, with some cups of coffee, some cheese Danishes and be prepared to just let him do his thing... Two shot camera - one on a tripod (2 of you on stools, over your shoulder at him), the other vlogging through the store, intercut between the both... nightmare to edit. But it would be one hell of a doc. And a heck of a discount on any fabric you fall in love with. Apparently I'm spitballing ideas today?
    Your fabric choices are beautiful. All the very best of the Day to you and yours. Enjoy. Now go pour some rum in that eggnog...

    Pausing at the pushy store owner to say I CANNOT stand that kind of behavior. There are shops in the NYC garment district I rarely go to because I hate pushy salesman. That said, no one has ever bad mouthed my prior purchases and I wouldn't stand for such rudeness!! What nerve!!
    And yes... would also love to see a green linen video.

    • @wzrdreams
      @wzrdreams 2 года назад +1

      pausing again because you mention how uncomfortable it made you and how you don't trust that the fiber content is what he said it was. I feel this distrust with pushy salespeople too and is another reason why I avoid them. If they are known to bad mouth things that you have purchased elsewhere, presumably out a misplaced sense of competition, and can't be trusted to sell you something that is the quality they claim it is, I would definitely avoid them.

    • @moth.faerie
      @moth.faerie  2 года назад +1

      ah yeah the main reason i still go to that store is because they do always have really beautiful lace! not that the other stores don't, but a lot of the other stores skew a lot more prom dress/really modern with their beaded lace whereas his store is usually a little more elegant. i'm also not in LA very often so thankfully I don't have to deal with him very frequently!

      definitely going to do a video on the green linen! i'm hoping to turn it into a spring-y cottagecore dress! haha i feel you on the vibe - i view the shop with the aggressive store owner as more of a shopping experience i need to defeat to get the good treasure rather than an enjoyable experience on its own 😅

    I live in a town of 4000 in Northern Wisconsin. To me, LA looks like a strange fairy tale! For that matter, non-quilting fabric stores seem like a pipe dream. Also, I love the story-telling in your videos. (I sense a theme!)

    A good day of shopping now and then is always nice, and that haul is interesting.
    But there will be a price to pay, because Babybat has mastered the villain kitty blink *"Hello Mr Bond, where have you been these past days?"*
    Situation is dire!
    But no need to panic (yet) because in my experience, the furry deity is susceptible to flattery... Homage...Tribute offered by repentant mom.

    Ooooh that is such a pretty green linen, I've got a similar one sitting in my fabric stash that I am trying to decide what to make with it (I've already made two aprons with the fabric and still have maybe 4-5 yards left).
    The the fabrics you got are wonderful! Love the lacy ones. Cannot wait to see them put together.
    That store sounds soooo overwhelming, I usually apricate a little help since I never know which fabrics will work but that just sounds stressful as heck, particularly talking down about the other fabrics you got. Makes sense why you'd need to psych yourself up for that. o.o
