    Old One Eye was alive for a very long time, which is very rare for Tyranid organisms which normally throw themselves into digestive pools to be reabsorbed into the Hive Fleet. Perhaps Old One Eye somehow remained conscious while frozen and slowly began to develop his own personality and thus a soul. This soul, upon death, would be drawn into the psychic mass of the Hive Mind and would then go on to occasionally inhabit the bodies of newly born Carnifexes.

      Both aspects support the hypothesis that old one eye could have acquired a form of "individuality" that could manifest itself in the tyranid gene pool either as an anomaly or as a unique weapon. He has indeed lived long and operated on his own, but he also had his brain melted by plasma. That could have severed part of his connection or subservience to the hive fleet making him a unique specimen of brainless yet somewhat more independent tyranid.

    Old One Eye was a very successful organism, so the Hives recreate him occasionally, with eye wound included. It's a case of a blind evolutionary process reproducing a success, and mindlessly including it's flaws. Similarly, humans can be considered a successful organism, but we still have vestigial tailbones, and many other evolutionary leftovers. As Pillowtap mentioned, the Hives understand psych warfare, so a recreating or reusing an unkillable recognizable figurehead is a good move.

    When he died on Calth there was a hive fleet within range and through his synapse absorbed his conscientiousness and genetic information and passed from fleet to fleet to return him to his original fleet. Each of the fleets along the way now has the information to make themselves an Old One Eye and if they did they would start a divergent line from the original. What the Imperium keeps witnessing may be different individual OOEs that all started with the memories up until Calth and will develop their own 'strategies' making it harder to deal with one if you ever come across it.

    i think its just a genetic memory and template of the one eye that was picked up by the hive fleet.
    its regeneration must be linked to its consciousness, since when its reconstituted its eye is still damaged.
    so it might have lingering mental damage from that plasma shot and might be unable to regenerate that
    (best crit ever - immortal ey? well permanent mental damage!)
    or the hive mind somehow knows that the "legend" of one eye terrifies humans thereby that in itself is a war asset. So only making sure to place only "one" one eye in combat makes sure that the legend is not spoiled by "oh look there are more than one - guess its not a special thing then" and removing a war asset.
    i kinda like the last one more since it implies the hive caught onto a meta physical effect and decided to use it when necessary as to induce terror

    I have a feeling that the term old one- eye amongst the Tyranids is like a title. Kind of like how the name Ysgramor is used amongst the forces of Chaos with several of them running around and everyone thinking they are the same guy, except it’s loads of different people using the same name. Which is what I think is happening here.

    Could be the Hive Fleets playing about with psychological warfare. Deliberately creating an exact copy of a previously notable bioform on multiple worlds in order to create the legend of an invincible Tyranid. Wherever Old One Eye is sighted, its going to go through the defender's ranks quickly and seriously knock their morale.

    As much as I adore Old One Eye, my favorite theory is that there really only was the one, and he's dead. All other "sightings" are mistaken identity and warhammer doing the "unreliable narrator" they do so often. I love the idea of him being the warhammer version of the boogeyman

  • @NMahon
    @NMahon 5 лет назад

    Perhaps in the ice, over the years, he somehow became cut off from the hive fleet and so evolved and developed to be independent of the hive mind, he had to become self sufficient but also has a personality, bearing the scars of the past possibly as a mark of pride, maybe the brain damage caused by the wound allowed it to be liberated

  • @radagastthedank8902
    @radagastthedank8902 5 лет назад

    Possibly not a case of mistaken identity but perhaps the hive fleets employing the ability to recreate old one eye as a somewhat case of fear factor due to his notoriety

    I'm confused here,In Warriors of Ultramar,Uriel shot a carnifex in the eye and ended up with a very similar injury as old one eyes and nothing was ever mentioned about what happened to it as I dont recall reading that it died as it being shot was the last thing you read about it.
    If someone could clarify my statement and explain that would be great,thanks.

    I think that old one eye might be a case of an extraordinary individual(yes, thats an actuall thing)
    An extraordinary individual is like this... you know of the smartest man alive?(his dead now but idk his name) he can be classified as an extraordinary individual cuz he had a really big impact on his grope and species in the form of his discoveries.
    Old one eye might be an extraordinary individual cuz of his combat skills, making so that the hive mind keeps him alive after eating a world and cloning him back after his death

    2:10 and they didn't aim their ship weapons at the thing or bring some heavy-duty bombs or even just called in extra support like bombers or something on standby, or had imperial forces ready to call if things got awry?
    Plus, you'd think such creatures would have been purged from the world in the aftermath of the war ASAP for when the Tyranids try this thing again.

    I sense a hickup here. Okay, the blueprint for this exeptional regenerating berserker Nid might be available for several hive fleets for thousands of years maybe and they use it in Fitting sitations. BUT why would they all produce these Special creatures with the characteristic non-regenerating eye? Why would they pump out damaged creatures if they have the blueprint for the undamaged creature?
