We are at 8 degrees here in NC. Our coach is a fully enclosed metal shed with blown insulation on the roof. Our Wanderlodge has electric heaters in the bays and electric heaters in the coach not counting the Webasto hydronic heaters. Your Prevost is well equipped to take on this colder weather. We are leaving for Blowing Green Florida next week for our initial retirement snow bird trip. Appreciate your channel. Thanks.
Coldest we have been in was-2 and we has no air to the toilet. Some air lines froze up due to plastic connections. They shrink when they get cold and leak and then you have issues. We put our diesel treatment in when we get fuel this way it mixes up. When we’re driving and going through the filters and pump. Wish we had aqua-hot but two original heaters and two space heaters got us through the cold weather. Thanks for sharing.👍👏🤗
Just found your channel--good stuff! I full time in my 2002 Featherlite Prevost non-slide--currently in Kansas. Got to -18 a couple of nights ago. Between the aqua-hot and the electric heaters in the water and storage bays, we were fine. I DID put a remote sensor thermometer on the floor in the water bay at the point farthest from the heater: Never got below 60F. Filled up with diesel and added treatment before the storm. Interior of the coach has stayed at 72F the whole time. I'm plugged in, but I ran the generator for a couple of hours each night just to keep it warm in case we lost power and needed it. (I'm sure the heat it provided in the bay didn't hurt either.) We're supposed to be back in the 50's here starting Wednesday.
Wow! That is crazy to go from -11 to 50! Glad it worked out for you. I started out with just my aquahot heater in the water bay turned on (not sure what temp, think it was to low). Once it got to -8 with 40mph winds I went back out and turned it all the way up and then turned on the electric (have no idea why I didn’t do that earlier - I don’t think it could recover) I had a little water on the bay floor and it froze along with my water pumps. I finally hit about 15 degree weather coming to Fl and the pumps thawed out and work fine now - thank goodness. I chipped the ice out and appears dry, it looks like just a fitting on a pump needed retightened. Done with that weather - thanks for watching and commenting - congratulations on your Featherlight - they do a great job with the builds.
I am babysitting my H3-45 in the storage building. It was good last night with just the 1 toe kick heater and the bay heaters. I believe we will be fine
Stay warm! It's going to be 22 tonight in north central Florida and I also treated the diesel, turned the water bay heat on, and block heater. Should be ok here. If the toe kickers don't do it, it's wabasso time. Stay 🥵 warm
thanks! I went and checked the water bay and found ice - but think its from the faucet dripping in there…. I turned the aquahot heater and electric heater up in that bay - but right now I have no way to see what is going on - to cold!!! At 22 you’ll be fine.
Just think next week in Chicago it’s going back up to the mid 40’s. Just finished shoveling. Don’t mind the snow but 40 mph winds are hell. Have a safe journey and Merry Christmas
I am thinking I should have removed the water from the pipes - but the inside seems fine. Its the piping in the water bay that concerns me - I have 30-50mph winds at -2 temp hitting those doors - it would get cold if they were 10” of foam!
RV antifreeze is a Godsend! We have used it for years at our Apartment complexes and it stopped all the trap freezing, toilet freezing and cracking issues. Same goes for opening the cabinet doors under the sinks. Amazing was 50 degrees will do to keep pipes from freezing in fridged weather.

Well have to say I love the videos and testing all the systems, one bit of advice as I noticed in the video you had a half a tank of deisel. I would and I do always keep my tanks full in the winter even though I live in florida. The temperature changes will cause condensation inside the tank walls above the fuel line. When it gets above freezing well, you know how condensation works. Even though I know you have water separators on filters, it will keep water or as much as possible out of the tank which will start to grow bacteria and algea during warmer months. Just a precaution to possible costly repairs on like clogged injectors or fuel pumps down the road, $300 dollars of fuel is better than $5000 in repairs, and also remember your generator as well feds from that tank too. A full tank can't condensate on inside. I have seen the comments on alcohol, I wouldn't as there is a de-icer meant for air brake systems, alcohol will dry out your seals an O-rings which will eventually lead to leaking. I don't know the brands or I would suggest but I live in Florida so I don't have to battle that with mine. Also when putting the anti gel in the fuel don't forget to run the generator too so the fuel additive makes it to it as well. Love the videos and can't wait to see more content, especially would like to see some on how much boondocking time you get now with all that battery storage and or a/c runtime. I think it's just and awesome setup for sure! Safe travels back home and remember our fuel down here in Florida is not winterized so don't forget more anti gel when you head back north!
Thanks for the advice! I really try to keep a full tank but was playing with gas prices and put her away before I could fill her up. The last time I fueled up was around 5.65 per gallon and now it’s 3.65 but as you say $200 might be a drop in the bucket if it sucks water. Good thought on Fl fuel not having additives in it…. Was looking to get some closer to Nashville but who knows what anyone puts in it anymore. I have a jug of the antigel - will put it in once I get home - supposed to be 60 Tuesday! Then drop back below freezing Wednesday- but that’s the forecast today ;). Will put the batteries to the test boondocking the Purdue bowl game the next few days - will see how she does. Really need some solar to help combat the AC drain - supposed to be the hottest days yet - when we have no power! Figures. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Make sure you check your air tanks and drain them as you could have moisture in the system and obviously this could freeze. If you put some kind of diesel treatment in your fuel tank do it when you fill as it will circulate as you fill.
You're correct on both items. I was hoping to get out before that storm came, so was kind of stuck seeing how it went. I did have all the water drained from the tanks the summer before, so was hoping it was close to dry....
This is one of a very few channels about a Prevost ownership. I have often wondered how they handle in extreme cold temperatures. Most of the prevost owners are in southern Cal or Florida.
Ha - when I first got the coach I asked how you winterize a prevost and was met with - you drive them to Florida - or keep in a heated storage unit. I would say that’s good advice unfortunately- they are complicated rigs - I’m lucky to have a simple one. Some coaches you can’t even see what’s behind all the pretty finishes.
You can go to any automotive store and buy the diesel treatment . You can go the same thing @ any truck stop. You can go to the shop @ the truckstop. The shop people can help you. You can ildle the Prevost all night. Alm you have tk do is aet the idle with the cruise control. Also you donot have to wait on the diesel treatment to settle in. Just pour it in & start the engine
@Camp Prevost I run it in the morning to get to work, and that is it. I keep my body under the blankets several hours before bed. I have to sleep with my head under the blankets. Pretty much in my little fort for most of the night. It's plus 18 Farenhight right now so I'm down to my bikini. 🤫
Good lord! What state? That sounds like Alaska! I'm in AZ and during the worst of the cold-wave, it seemed like you guys sucked all the (relative for the desert) cold weather from here to there. We called ourselves 'the habital zone' as we shot up to the mid 70s during xmas. Actually wore shorts, no socks and short sleeves. We were warmer than most of FL.
Have you added any alcohol to your brake system yet, could be a good idea for your trip. There's nothing worse then frozen brakes on the Highway ! Have a safe trip and a Merry Christmas. PS: it's 0 F here in central PA
If you run the engine in these conditions recommend running on high idle until a minimum the engine coolant comes up to temp of 170-195. Also run the engine heat via aqua hot couple hours before starting and or plug in the electric block heater.
Check out Xtreme Heaters… Great option for any bay you want to keep from freezing…. I’m using a 600 watt unit in my water bay. And it’s performing great…
Yeah - I don’t have anything remotely close, so I try to roll in with as much as possible. With the fuel hitting almost $6 a gallon this summer I played with waiting - now it’s -8 out. Got backed into a corner for sure.
We have a 08 Discovery 39R, it doesn't have the aqua heat but wish it did, we also just went thru a -9 degrees here in KY over Christmas (2022) weekend and had no issues that I can tell, but I also set my heat on 50 degrees while plugged in, so far everything works as it should
Just wondering if your tire pressure will be good enough when you leave on Sunday? What temperature is it cold I’m sure the pressure has gone down considerably.
I checked it at 30 degress on Wednesday and they were low - so I filled them up (5-8psi) - wondering if they will be high when the temps go back up. Will check before I leave - it will be 10 by then! haha
That’s just the alarm indicating there isn’t enough air pressure to release the parking break and travel safely. If you press the fast idle button it only takes about 10 seconds to create the 70psi for it to go off - I didn’t want to so it took a little longer - it’s pretty absurd for sure!
Have no idea. On the Facebook page they say to run them in when it gets really really cold. Probably better than other slides but everything has its limits. Almost there in the networking. As all the components are getting further along the weather went to crap. Hoping this spring it’s even further and just plug and play. The batteries are supposed to mange the Victrons already with just cat cable and the Victron sees the WS500 - so can’t be to far away.
I didn’t but sure thought about. I had the bus plugged in and everything running - thought if I ran it, I should put a load on it but didn’t want to unplug the bus. It would have helped the heat for sure.
We always open the cabinets other in campers and in our home….under all sinks as well. The heat helps the pipes…we also use antifreeze in hm pipes to keep safe…..
Do you have a Webasto or Aqua-Hot tied to the diesel fuel for this type of weather? I run he Webasto anytime it dips below freezing. Uses minimal fuel to run and peace of find on freezing.
Newb sub here - how long have you had it? During extreme temps in our house(s) in Denver and KC we'd let the faucets drip or trickle a bit to prevent static freezing in the lines. The bus structure 'should' mitigate that problem, but I'd be curious on yours or other commenters' thoughts. Also - side note - did you work for Cessna? My family did too back in the 70s. In Wichita KS.
We have had it almost 2 years now. We really get to the 20's, which isn't really a problem. -8 was a whole new ball game but she did really well. I don't work for Cessna but we had an old 170 that we flew around.
Yes but I couldn’t run the aquahot in the concealed unit. Wanted to drop the water and winterize but then didn’t know how to put water back in at 5 degrees outside. Kinda got stuck!
This is a cleaver way to have automatic snow chains for the inner drive wheels. Expensive and likely impractical they may rattle and not look good, but still a cool idea. Reminds me a bit of the Speed Racer carton where he could engage the mud traction tire treads from a button on the steering wheel. ruclips.net/video/lLhqIVSM8wo/видео.html
@@CampPrevost I thought it was an incredibly cool idea! I'd investigate these automatic snow chains a lot before putting them on a priced vehicle. They are a new product which means they will probably be substantially improved or disappear from being impractical.
Do as I say, not as I do. We have an intersection that has 5 roads and 10 stops that come together - it sucks and should be a round about (it almost is) . It’s not, so your correct, but if you lived there you’d probably do the same.
It's better to run it longer then 10 minutes that's not good for a diesel to turn off and turn back on it's better to run it for longer period of time like an hour and I would make sure that your airlines are not freezing up if so you can pour a little bit of alcohol in your airline check your air dryer
Yeah, definitely hate short durations but wanted to see if I needed parts or would be ok. Where do you put alcohol in it - there are probably 5 air tanks, 3 or 4 dryers and a thousand feet of air line - somehow the 8 air bags are connected to the air brakes and accessory air as well with multiple norgren valves. I have the schematics to it in a book.
All fellar really need diesel treatment when you fuel so it dispenses to all fuel adding it to the top of tank may not work for you .Can hav filters freeze up to the speed you idle.Good luck

That -8 is nothing, we had lower temperatures than that in the UK not so long ago and I don't even have any heating in my house and everything was fine.
I’m not able to hear it up front - if I’m going 70 down the highway, it’s noisy in the bedroom. If I open the side window I can barely hear the turbo wind up. If I don’t turn on any air up front - and just run 30mph or so - it’s so quite it’s scary!
It sure does. I know I have wondered myself why there are so many when conditions are good. Then this happens and you understand- thanks for watching and commenting.
Ya - apart from some system strain, the bus 'is' designed to be ... a bus. Apart from traffic conditions, I don't recall passenger service stopping because it's 'cold'.
Just wasn't sure of all the old plastic and rubber parts freezing - changing sizes and leaking. I also had 160 gallons of water on board - didn't want to bust any pipes!
Wasn't to worried about the Prevost bus, more worried about all the converter items. I had 160 gallons of water on board. Didn't know if I could keep all the systems above freezing in that low of temps - but she did very well!
Yes I do :). I like it when it works too! Lol. As long as it stays simple enough to upgrade, troubleshoot and repair its wonderful. I don’t like it when it’s so complicated you can’t figure it out and have to start throwing money at it and hope it gets fixed. Trying to keep my stuff simple - and the complicated stuff just the icing on the cake. Thanks for another nice comment. Hope you have a great day.

Why would I want to do that, lol! The video showed the coach did fine - just thought others would be interested how it did as well - most times these go to FL or storage. Definitely made me less nervous for short times below freezing while on trips.

Should start using treatment before storm hits and full tanks
Yeah - I don’t have anything remotely close, so I try to roll in with as much as possible. With the fuel hitting almost $6 a gallon this summer I played with waiting - now it’s -8 out. Got backed into a corner for sure.
good vid thanx for some tips
Welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting
We have a 08 Discovery 39R, it doesn't have the aqua heat but wish it did, we also just went thru a -9 degrees here in KY over Christmas (2022) weekend and had no issues that I can tell, but I also set my heat on 50 degrees while plugged in, so far everything works as it should
Good deal! Glad it’s ok! What is your heat source then? Thanks for watching and commenting
Will check before I leave - it will be 10 by then! haha
Best way to get that diesel treatment spread throughout your fuel is to put it in and then fuel up topping off the tank
Thanks - that would probably mix it up really well.
How many years they finance them things ?????
Depends on the bank, the unit, how much down and your credit history.
am i the only one who wanted to jump through the screen and smash that damn beeping device? lol
That’s just the alarm indicating there isn’t enough air pressure to release the parking break and travel safely. If you press the fast idle button it only takes about 10 seconds to create the 70psi for it to go off - I didn’t want to so it took a little longer - it’s pretty absurd for sure!
Oh cool you have horses too
We don't, the girls wish we did but there is an equestrian center in our neighborhood
6:12 canbus is missing an i lol. cool on this video, living in Canada, I might buy an older bus, wonder what it would be like if you had slide outs?
Have no idea. On the Facebook page they say to run them in when it gets really really cold. Probably better than other slides but everything has its limits. Almost there in the networking. As all the components are getting further along the weather went to crap. Hoping this spring it’s even further and just plug and play. The batteries are supposed to mange the Victrons already with just cat cable and the Victron sees the WS500 - so can’t be to far away.
@@CampPrevost me being single and no family, November be a good time for me to go towards Mexico
Very nice home on wheels
Thanks!
Did you run the generator also?
I didn’t but sure thought about. I had the bus plugged in and everything running - thought if I ran it, I should put a load on it but didn’t want to unplug the bus. It would have helped the heat for sure.
We always open the cabinets other in campers and in our home….under all sinks as well. The heat helps the pipes…we also use antifreeze in hm pipes to keep safe…..
Interior heat exchangers on my Marathon are located under the cabinets so really no need to open doors.
@@curttundra I wonder if heated floors would also help nearby systems (if available).
Do you have a Webasto or Aqua-Hot tied to the diesel fuel for this type of weather? I run he Webasto anytime it dips below freezing. Uses minimal fuel to run and peace of find on freezing.
It’s got the aquahot. I had it running almost full blast but that wind! Didn’t help
As long as you have power and your generator works, you’ll be ok.
Thanks! Hope so!
I never thought about letting my faucets run a little so they do not freeze. Thank you for the tip.
11 degrees here in upstate NY Florida isn't any better
I think you guys are supposed to get to the 40-50’s - or somewhere way up there! Crazy weather!
Can you Bring your motorcoach indoors when it's that cold 🥶 what I meant was indoors parking
Yes but I couldn’t run the aquahot in the concealed unit. Wanted to drop the water and winterize but then didn’t know how to put water back in at 5 degrees outside. Kinda got stuck!
I'm getting crazy whit that biping
What’s the name of this Rv?
It’s a Prevost H3-45 with an American coach conversion
This is a cleaver way to have automatic snow chains for the inner drive wheels. Expensive and likely impractical they may rattle and not look good, but still a cool idea. Reminds me a bit of the Speed Racer carton where he could engage the mud traction tire treads from a button on the steering wheel. ruclips.net/video/lLhqIVSM8wo/видео.html
Wow. Wonder how they really do in bad conditions. Seems if the chain were longer it could reach both tires too. Pretty neat
@@CampPrevost I thought it was an incredibly cool idea! I'd investigate these automatic snow chains a lot before putting them on a priced vehicle. They are a new product which means they will probably be substantially improved or disappear from being impractical.
Why are you running stop signs? You didn't try to stop. WOW!!
Do as I say, not as I do. We have an intersection that has 5 roads and 10 stops that come together - it sucks and should be a round about (it almost is) . It’s not, so your correct, but if you lived there you’d probably do the same.
Do you have slides
I do not - sometimes glad I don't, sometimes wish I did
@@CampPrevost below 20 degrees, they are not reliable anyway.
All fellar really need diesel treatment when you fuel so it dispenses to all fuel adding it to the top of tank may not work for you .Can hav filters freeze up to the speed you idle.Good luck
your right. thanks for watching!
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
Do you make them for an H3-45 Prevost?
@@CampPrevost Yea Of course. Many of our lights are unverisal fit!
That -8 is nothing, we had lower temperatures than that in the UK not so long ago and I don't even have any heating in my house and everything was fine.
Wow - not here. Our water freezes below 32 :), that's our main concern.
A Furnace Might have Been Great for this RV...
Some prevost have them they are called bus air - but they are not gas fired. We use aquahot for a fuel fired heat.
Do you have a leak
I had one somewhere. Doesn't leak above 0 though
Can’t believe a coach that expensive you can hear the Diesel engine running inside the coach 🤷🏼♂️
I’m not able to hear it up front - if I’m going 70 down the highway, it’s noisy in the bedroom. If I open the side window I can barely hear the turbo wind up. If I don’t turn on any air up front - and just run 30mph or so - it’s so quite it’s scary!
Tried watching several times, still never heard the engine in the video. Never heard the engine when riding in it either...
@@CampPrevost extremely quiet in the H......
Hot shot is the best diesel additive.....
For winter or in general? Thanks!
@@CampPrevost both....
@@CampPrevost I just head to Florida for the winter, solves everything.
dont it make ya feel good when all your redundancies pay off?
It sure does. I know I have wondered myself why there are so many when conditions are good. Then this happens and you understand- thanks for watching and commenting.
I have no idea what you’re talking about!
Ha, me either!

Not sure what that means but thanks for the emoji’s!
I would be very disappointed if that bus couldn’t have handled that temp.
@@CampPrevost Bays should have heat - at least. Are your tanks wrapped?
Laughing at these snow birds running to warm weather instead of toughing it out oh wait those busses don't do well in cold weather
-8 not good enough?
@@CampPrevost Well Fargo got into the negative teens, I guess that's your next test.
Dontcha love technology?
Yes I do :). I like it when it works too! Lol.
As long as it stays simple enough to upgrade, troubleshoot and repair its wonderful. I don’t like it when it’s so complicated you can’t figure it out and have to start throwing money at it and hope it gets fixed.
Trying to keep my stuff simple - and the complicated stuff just the icing on the cake.
Thanks for another nice comment. Hope you have a great day.
Not good for lifepo to charge below freezing. A single cycle like that can ruin them
Unless it’s heated
Agreed but noticed you were pushing juice into the battery and battery temperature showed 28 degrees. That's why I posted. Nice rig btw.
You totally ran that stop sign 🛑
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video
LIKE YOU'VE NEVER DONE IT
Dude you ran the STOP sign
OH MY GOODNESS CALL THE POLICE, WE'VE ALL HAD LAPSE IN JUDGEMENT
It looks worse on camera with a single POV.
Riding out a storm ?
Your coach is riding out , you're inside a warm house 😂 post a video where you're stuck in a blizzard for 6 days ,,,, inside the coach!
Why would I want to do that, lol! The video showed the coach did fine - just thought others would be interested how it did as well - most times these go to FL or storage. Definitely made me less nervous for short times below freezing while on trips.
