What I want to understand is why, when needing to be “edgy”, people go immediately to anti-black racism?
You said it perfectly - the industry already has issues with discrimination and under representation, stunts like this just make it a worse environment for everyone.

He's absolutely racist, specifically anti-Black, but based on his name, I don't think that Kasim is white.

The thing is race is a social construct and it seems some places in the world dont seem to view arab/swana as being "of color", i know that in the us, most of north africa is considered white, meanwhile, south and central europe thinks of north africa has of color. Idk about the uk where treacle tatt is from, and idk about russia (where this tattoo artist is from)

Many Rromani people in other countries do refer to themselves as this since a lot of the other terms in the local language are worse slurs used against them. The term is still used in many places to discriminate and keep Rroma from getting jobs or housing to even being able to keep their own children and it is very rampant in many European countries including France. That’s literally what a group of people are called in the UK though. We have Gypsy, Romani and Travellers which are three distinct groups. Yes you shouldn’t call the wrong group the G word because then it’s a slur, but you can’t not call the group of people who refer to themselves as gypsies it because that’s disrespectful. I just want to make that distinction for you, because most Americans don’t realise this.

That term isn't keeping any roma people from jobs. Not wanting to work is mostly what's keeping them from jobs. The ones that do want to work and go to school have to get out of their communities because they're looked down upon. These people marry off their young daughters to any old rat and rid them of any chance of advancement. Anyone who lives close to them knows what nightmares are. Only people who aren't familiar think they have to protect them from something. People do call them that name because they call themselves that and they're fully right to use a common word. Everyone who has a problem with it online absolutely needs to spend a month living close to them.

Ragebait is partially why I'm in a sensory/information burnout as an AuDHD person. I don't watch tv, but I watch A LOT of RUclips. I say I don't watch the news because it makes me too anxious as someone who's hypersensitive, yet most of the content I watch (because the algorithm picked up on a handful of videos I enjoyed a while ago) is drama and negative topics with flashy titles. It's just EVERYWHERE. I've been looking for more comforting/positive content, but it's way less popular. I'm responsible for my own media consumption, and sometimes it goes into self-sabotage territory, but social medias and content creators definitely weaponize our tendency for drama and negativity online.
So long story short, my body now gives me fight or flight response when I'm scrolling online and we should definitely put the phone down to read a book, mend our clothes, play with our pets, ...

As a junior tattoo artist this is heartbreaking and frustrating to see. I recently had to quit and find a different job because I too was among the struggling tattoo artists, and seeing someone basically get away with such heinous behaviour and racism is incredibly upsetting. I can only hope that tattoo artists like this will be boycotted because they do not deserve the trust and support of their clients and fellow artists

Second, it's so true about looking at people's socials and see if their [sh*tty] values are hidden there. I have a friend whose husband is a tattoo artist. He's very talented, and as I was looking through his FB, I saw a Confederate flag front and center on one of his clients. Now, there was no description on if the artist did that or it was there previously (the whole arm looked healed), but I wouldn't want to get tattooed by someone who tattoos said things, or would tattoo a person who has such things. Glad I looked deeply at his portfolio!

Usually people know about US problems, a bit about Europe problems, but you don't care to know about other countries and you just judge. Why is black racism is more important? Why it has to be the most important for the country that never had problems with black people. You talking about society but you always talking about the specific problems and never think that some problems may be more important for different countries. 1) Where did I say it was more important? Oh right. I didn't.
I literally said 'two things can be true' which is the DEFINITION of not lowering the specific bigotry others face. You just made shit up.
      2) Where did I say I don't care about other country's problems? Oh yeah, didn't say that either!
I just brought attention to the fact that antiblackness is committed even when the overarching issues in a country are with other ethnicities or even other white people.
      3) This is, quite literally, about us. It's the N word, not the K word, G word C word, nobody else's slur. It's about a specifically antiblack slur. THAT'S why I brought up antiblackness. Don't ask why I'm "making this about me" when it IS about me.

The thing I think about whenever I see any of these ragebait, engagement above all type of artists, aside from the obvious bigotry in this one guy's case, is... if they'll do XYZ stupid thing to get attention, what happens when that no longer works? Or when they can't get friends or clients to consent to being in their joke ragebait videos? Do they value engagement above giving me the tattoo I want? Would they decide to fuck around with me as a client if it meant they'd get a few more views? Engagement farming, IMHO, eats away at the trust between the artist and the client, because the more desperate the artist is for engagement, the clearer it becomes to the client that they're no longer the prioity in the tattooing process: the anonymous Tiktok or Instagram audience is. The clicks are. The comments and engagement are. Personally, I'm not prepared to trust someone with priorities that out of whack to make permanent marks on my body, and I don't think I'm alone in feeling that way.

This immediately made me think of a specific artist. I can't remember his name but I think he's been in one of your tiktok reaction videos or something. All of the videos I've seen by him are him recreating interactions with clients (or potential clients) and making fun of them in the process. Whether he doesn't like the tattoo idea they have or their lack of tattoo knowledge. If you're actually a talented artist maybe you should use your ART to get noticed, not your shitty attitude.
Edit: There's a story (or whatever they're called) on snapchat that are compilations of his tiktoks. I have to keep blocking it because either the name changes or new accounts are being made. Go away!!

Have (unfortunately) “had to” unfollow some artists whose work I admired and actually got work from due to troubling remarks/videos that slowly showed their true colours. The thing is, when taken as a single video/clip, some of these red flags can just seem like an “of, that maybe should have been thought through/edited a bit more carefully before posting”; thinking, HOPING, it was a mistake or they didn’t realize certain connotations and then were informed and educated. But when you start either looking over their whole profile or, sadly, happen to follow them (thinking they were a reputable artist/decent human being) and notice all the innuendos… it’s just disheartening. Then you wonder “do I state I’m unfollowing and maybe bring attention to it?” or just unfollow and block and don’t give them the interaction? I feel like the “big names” (like the artists with lots of followers and some “industry clout” making a comment does help. It can help someone who’s just scrolling through and not really paying attention to the background or has their sound off (yes, both of those are me) notice the red flags. It’s just so sad to feel like all of the inclusive progress, bringing the tattoo industry out of the back-alley/“members only” mentality, highlighting the incredible art form/form of self expression it is is being lost.

I get way more engagement on my tattoos just by having a silly little clip of myself in the beginning because people care way more about art when they find the artist attractive. We can’t just do art anymore. Gotta be funny, interesting, attractive, and being good at the art you’re doing is a plus but not even a requirement.
