Man, you have a relaxed touch I would kill for...but that would interfere with me pounding on the keys like they broke into my house or something so I'll just enjoy you showing me how it's done instead:) Just amazing to me what you can conjure up on the piano, and being honest, any instrument I've heard you play. Such a keen sense of the movement in the music.
I'd never would have thought of mashing up Thelonious Monk and Keith Emerson together in a same piece, but that makes much sense. And dang, does she swings ! Thanks for sharing this, Rachel !
@@RachelFlowersMusic Yes, I know that ! I was first introduced to Keith's music in 1971 with The Nice's "Elegy", followed shortly after by the first ELP album by my older brother. I was nine then, loved it instantly, and I can say that Keith made a great part in my musical education, with his blend of classical, jazz and blues playing. I admit that I never really listened to Thelonious Monk, and I'm not familiar enough to spot his material. For instance, it took me years to identify a quote in his "The Sheriff" ragtime ending on the "Welcome Back My Friends", as Rachmaninoff's famous "Prelude". I knew this tune for sure, but I had no Idea who wrote this. And once again, mashing up ragtime and Rachmaninoff !!! Who would think of that? Anyway, thank you for the reply, and Rachel, you are a gift to my old ears, and I love those videos that show how truly you enjoy playing music.
'Tarkus' is full of Monk-isms, particularly Eruption. I had to explain all this to my college piano teacher to teach him to teach me! (Aaron Copland had to do this as well)
😮😮😮 Rachel you always completely blow my mind and massage my ears. You are at a level Of Musicianship I have never witnessed in my 62yrs of life. And I have been a Musician and Music Lover for over 40yrs so please accept my humble statement. Your hands are like watching a ballerina dance across the keys So precise and effortless. Your talent has no boundaries and I know you are proof of divine intervention. You are a gift from God 💐 God bless you and your family 🙏❤
I remember her correcting my chords back in high school in Mr Norwoods classroom, she'd be like " ayo thats a regular ass F#7 its supposed to be a flat five" 😅 in front of the whole class too, no chill haha...good times. Shes come a long way so proud of her.
Hello...Nice you come to the Jazz side of Life. Love You 4 it For inspiration try out Hiromi Uehara,JD Beck and Domi. Bill Evans or Michel Petrucciani.
Dear Rachel Just wanted to tell you that i listen to your Music daily and it always makes me feel good and I smile Thinking of you. Thanks so Much! As Ray stated You Inspire Me! God bless you and Yours.
I was lucky enough to hear Monk with Charles Rouse & 4tet at Queensboro Community College in the 1970s. One thing I noticed in your amazing performance is that you actually play every note that Monk would play only as a glissando on the black keys. Please tour on the east coast!
Love the action and lively feel of this mashup. Such a marvelous performer! Is there a genre she doesn't excel at? I've heard her give us classical, jazz, pop, progressive rock, hard rock, swing... I don't think she's posted any boogie-woogie, but I have no doubt she would be superb.
Really, the ease with which you play makes us ecstatic and expectant with the mastery of the musicality of the notes used. You make it look easy... but it's not... it's extremely difficult, as we just heard, played perfectly. One more star in the sky and the galaxy grows.
Rachel, please, pick a genre, any genre, that you are an absolute 7th-level Jedi master in and stick to it! Nope, just kidding: keep spreading your musical wings and exploring wherever your muse leads you! We will gladly follow.
This woman is one of the most amazing human beings on the planet. A true phenomenon and a very nice woman as well.

Keith himself had done it.
Keith would often throw in quotes from other composers into his improvisations! It's part of the jazz tradition :)

This was _wonderful_ Rachel! Thank you for uploading it right before Church for me. May The Lord Bless, and keep you. :)
Your "lord" made her blind. What a bastard! It is fortunate that he is fictional.
The fundamental force of nature that is Rachel Flowers!
Beautiful music! I did not expect a jazz style when I saw “fugue” in the title, but I enjoyed it anyway.
The way she can master individual peoples' styles and then use them as their own is just mind-blowing.
She is so talented ❤
Just lovely Rachel. You are such a gift to us!
Mind. Blown.
My ears have no words.

The fugato is taken from the Five Bridges Suite, right? The dynamics appear to sound fairly balanced. Quite an experience, RF.
You are the best Rachel.
I'm astonished!
Always 10. Nice taste ... Congrats!!!!!
numero uno! un angelo!
❤
Absolutely Wonderful ❤
top!!!
😊
This was such a cool performance! I love the way you did this
Bravo Maestro!
❤️🔥
🎵⭐
have Rachel already recorded that Keith Emerson`s piano improvisation from 1974?
that one that starts with Friedrich Gulda Fugue, includes even Laurel and Hardy theme. etc..
To my ears, Rachel plays it better than Emerson. I always felt that Emerson was fast and flashy, and Rachel is too but with greater precision.

is keith emerson rachel's father: the family resemblance is coincidence?
Art Tatum's got nothing on. Rachel.
Great to hear some repeated bass notes.
