Like Stevie Wonder, he was a rare composer who could perform at a professional level on virtually all the instruments he required, and a considerable number of his recordings feature him in all the performing roles. Prince’s recording career began with funk and soul marketed to a Black audience; his early music also reflected the contemporary musical impact of disco. Later records incorporated a vast array of influences, including jazz, punk, heavy metal, the Beatles, and hip-hop, usually within an overall approach most informed by funky up-tempo styles and soulful ballads; the latter often featured his expressive falsetto singing.
Taking an early interest in music, Prince began playing the piano at age 7 and had mastered the guitar and drums by the time he joined his first band at age 14. With very few African American residents, his hometown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, was an unlikely site for the development of a major Black star, but Prince even managed to lead other local musicians, most notably Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, to major success.
Mirrored by correspondingly intense music, Prince’s lyrics often address sexuality and desire with frankness and imagination. Much of his work, in its lyrics and imagery, struggles with the constriction of social conventions and categories. As one of his biographers put it, “The whole thrust of Prince’s art can be understood in terms of a desire to escape the social identities thrust upon him by simple virtue of his being small, black, and male.”
Prince explored typographical oddities in his song titles and lyrics as another way of evading convention. In 1993 he announced that he had changed his name to a combination of the male and female gender signs-Prince symbol, music, Prince Rogers Nelson. There is also a strong religious impulse in some of his music, sometimes fused into a kind of sacred erotic experience that has roots in African American churches.
“Little Red Corvette” (1983) was Prince’s first big crossover hit, gaining airplay on MTV at a time when virtually no Black artists appeared on the influential new medium. Purple Rain (1984) made him one of the major stars of the 1980s and remains his biggest-selling album. The album, which was the Academy Award-winning soundtrack to a film of the same name, also earned a Grammy Award. Three of its singles were hits: the frenetic “Let’s Go Crazy,” the androgynous but vulnerable “When Doves Cry,” and the anthemic title cut. He continued to produce inventive music of broad appeal.
Throughout most of his career, Prince’s prolific inventiveness as a songwriter clashed with his record company’s policy of releasing only a single album each year. As a backlog of his completed but unreleased recordings piled up, he gave songs to other performers-some of whom recorded at and for Paisley Park, the studio and label he established in suburban Minneapolis-and even organized ostensibly independent groups, such as the Time, to record his material. - Видеоклипы

I heard a lot mention about several people contributing to his songs-which I already knew. However, it was Prince who was the true mastermind of it all. Prince was THE BEAST of music. There has never been ANYONE like him, and there never will be. I will love him until the day I die. I only saw him perform live once, and never met him. I only hope to meet him in the Hereafter. #Prince4ever #mylove 💜❤️🔥💜❤️🔥💜❤️🔥💜

@@Sinnik22 it was in Grand Rapids Michigan after the big show he played at a big venue, he played another show at a bar to raise money for the disease his son died of. So naturally I went with my Sister, it was a blizzard that night and I saw this little old guy looking confused I asked him if he needed help and he said yes he didn’t know the venue and his son was playing with Prince at the next show but he and his other son were from NYC and didn’t know how to get there. He followed me at about 25 mph in a snowstorm! They got us into the show for free, then I just hung with his other son until he told me he’d intro me to Prince if I promised not to cry or drop to my knees! LOL I said I’ll be so cool! Then he took me back stage Prince came off the stage came right up to the guy, and Me! And was drinking a water bottle talking about the brothers performance, Chris said this is my friend Alison he acknowledged me and said Hi! I told him he did great at the show he said thanks, I said I like like your boots and he looked down at my boots and they were almost identical to his, he said you too! Then we laughed and he finished talking to Chris and said it was nice to meet you to me and he went back on stage! I’m 5’1 and we were eye to eye,! 💜🙏 it was the best night of my life! My sister was so posed! She said B I looked up and there you were on the cool side of the ropes! But she ditched me and just watched the show! You snooze you lose! LOL 😂 best night ever

@@Sinnik22 No doubt. I had to type that because I always read credits and it seemed Princes albums always made a point to list all of that.
It’s amazing to hear the inside scoop of this man’s journey along with the people around him - it’s quite inspiring
Prince was the modern-day James Brown. The hardest smartest talented working man in show business
Took work to a next level
He had the brilliant idea to build his own music factory, he was industrialist where others just enjoyed wealth and fame - for him wealth and fame were just vehicles, tools to put him in a strong position to continue producing more and better music.
@@mrebholz YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT PRINCE 🤴!
There will probably NEVER be another person with his skill set. Prince was a legend. On every instrument, he was just as good as the best on each instrument. One of the most fascinating musical minds ever. Only person on his level is Stevie Wonder.

This was a great documentary! I really enjoyed the information from the 1999 album. That's my all-time favorite PRINCE album. He became my favorite artist when it was released in 1982. What was so chill about PRINCE during this period was all of the hype music that he putting out during this period. The TIME, and VANITY 6, gave him this infectious fuckin' vibe! He became my favorite artist in 82, and that never changed thereafter.
PRINCE was an absolute musical genius. There will NEVER be another one like him!
Very much appreciated Z

Thanks i’m starting to ask myself that same question. 🤔🤯😓
Funny to see people try to take credit for his work when they couldn't do anything on their own.
They were essentially session musicians.
Ty, Prince
Yes
Nobody could do what Prince 💜 could do musical. Prince didn't need nobody to help him to get to superstardom. Prince didn't need help like Micheal Jackson. Produce, written, arrange, composed, performed by Prince. Nobody I mean nobody could do that.
That I want to be your lover track is legendary, especially the ending guitar riff on the album version, that ending would be extended in the clubs and it became a track in itself, crazy, sexy dancer, another track that banged in the clubs, it was crazy cause people didn't know it was Prince.
No doubt

That's what original creative artist and musicians did back in the day ! They wrote songs, composed albums, played instruments, and arranged their own material. Prince, Micheal Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Isley Brothers, Sly Stone, Ohio Players, Chicago, Average White Band, Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Isaac Hayes, and others. None of this P Diddy, Drake, 2chainz, fake sampling, and can't sing shit. 🗣️🎙️
All cats who should be considered OP in the talent department
Sampling is a beautiful thing if you know its history.
At first artist were mad because they were literally having their music stolen and they weren't getting paid. & rap was so new, people didn't think it was going to last. I remember just 30 years ago, some black radio stations had commercials saying "Listen to us, we have the NO RAP work day".
After samples had to be cleared and the artist got acknowledged & money, U started seeing artist (like Aerosmith, Sting & Phil Collins just to name 3 real quick) were glad that the music they made was being used again.
In "Talking all that Jazz" by Stetsosinic, they say "If it wasn't for rap....people would have forgot". Check out the entire song.
U have to be crazy to think Steve Tyler is mad at Run DMC for sampling "Walk this way".
The glass is half full grasshopper.

Prince could do it all and well. ☺
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯👊🏾😎
He felt he had to dissolve the Revolution because they were absorbing his individuality by getting too involved in the creation of the music. He wanted to be the bandleader not a part of the band. Eventually it took too much input, wanting royalties and criticism from band members was the death of the Revolution in my opinion.
Very true
Agreed, I think he was helping some of them grow by letting them into the creating process and they wanted more and started confusing their role and significance to his genius. They mostly tinkered with songs he has mostly finished and they start thinking they were Quincy Jones lol, Prince too controlling for that. And they didn’t like having new band members, again confusing their role
I had a dream of what might have happened to Prince - In that dream, concerning the day of his unfortunate demise, 'intruders' broke into his home, covered his mouth so that he would not be able to call out for help, held him down, injected him with "A NEEDLE THAT CONTAINED SOMETHING THAT WAS LETHAL", and then set the whole thing up so that the police would be stupid enough to believe that it was a suicide, and at least a few disloyal backstabers, who were on his security staff, were in on it. Since no names are being mentioned, no one can make a slander accusation. Oh, and by the way, just before he died, he had to show up at a party to announce that he was alive, because 'someone' went around claiming that he died '2 days before he actually died' - "HHHHHMMMMM" 🤔
Purple and green gives more love and peace ☮️ and peace ☮️ peace and Love 💗 and prayers and look up in the sky and pray
