Designed by Jack Francis Jones as a comfortable motor sailer with acceptable sailing ability, able to get herself off a lee shore under sail if required.
Built by Porter and Haylett of Wroxham in 1968.
With a well documented history of careful and diligent owners, she was purchased by the current owner about 3 years ago and taken to Harbour Marine Services at Southwold for a cosmetic refit which included and complete external re-paint top to bottom, repairs to the hull planking where necessary and all new upholstery.
The Sole Bay 35 is a perfect cruising boat for northern climates with good performance under engine and acceptable help derived from the sails to ensure you are not totally reliant on diesel. The wheelhouse is a huge bonus, giving a dry warm space on deck allowing passage making even when the weather is poor.

Only just found your channel today and I've watche 7 or 8 boat tours already. The boats you feature are way out of my price range or skill set, but they all have a wonderfully rugged and businesslike air about them. I especially love all the exposed construction and time won patina they have, so different to the white GRP modern boats. They make me daydream in a way that the clinical modern boats cannot do for me.

The Sole Bay 25 featured was around £25,000. And I saw an even better one go for less that £20,000 about 5 years ago. Not many people want the disproportionate running and maintenance costs of a wooden boat...

Fair point well made. I look at things through the eyes of a buider and maker of things, so as I also have a lot of time available, I'm not intimidated by the variety and quantity of tasks reqquired to upkeep such a vessel. I don't sail, but I live near Portsmouth, had a naval architect for a father and have been interested all my life, so I'm genuinely considering boatlife now that I have the time and skills. The art of sailing the boat itself can be performed by an absolute artist of a sailor, or by a lesser experienced or knowledgeable person who is happy to stay within their limitations, and both can enjoy the experience albeit in different ways for different reasons.
The project of permanent maintenace and attention side, would be a real pleasure for me.@@tedthesailor172
