Meeting the sandvich being improv kind of makes sense. It’s looks like they just switched out the heavy animation for the first animation and didn’t touch anything else, which is unusual in comparison to the other animations.
Demoman has some of the wackiest lore to him, his missing eye is actually viciously haunted and is a boss you can fight in the annual Scream Fortress Halloween events called Monoculus. His liver is also inhumanly strong, as he is basically consistently drunk at all times, some theories say demoman would be by far the smartest mercenary if he was sober, there's a line in the game where he will say "imagine if I haden't been drunk".
It's his eye socket that's haunted, not necessarily the eye itself. And I was under the impression that those lines were more so referring to his accuracy and lethality, since alcohol tends to retard motor skills more.

TF2 is a fascinating achievement in character design. To this day, despite being quite stereotypical at first glance, all the characters are a unique splash of madness. Audibly and visually distinct and recognizable, they are fun to play and fun to see. As old Bungie devs said, "fun to shoot and fun being shot at" - a great implementation of quintessential basic entertainment. Plus all the videos are so understandable to even non-gamers, that to this day we have boomers and couples reacting to it.
I think you take a person on the internet that never played tf2 you make them hear one line from it and they will be like "fuck i know this voice" perhaps they don't know exactly what character but they will be like "fuck, yes, i know this voice is from tf2"

Another funny thing about the Heavy (besides him being a PHD) is in the Russian language version of the game he speaks very intelligently, meaning his portrayal in the English version is more a language barrier than an intelligence one. It's a great bit of subtle storytelling Valve did with TF2.
The Spy can completely become a member of the opposite team, with no way of telling him apart except damage or telltale behavior. A good spy disguised as a sniper will wiggle around like he’s covering a chokepoint, until someone backpedals into them 😂
Fun Fact: Their where two versions of the scene with Scout in meet the: pyro. With the only difference is he goes "...she's not here is she?!.." instead of "he". I believe it was a hold over from valve originally wanting to make female versions of the mercenaries; though even in lore no one knows the Pyro's true identity, not even Mann Co.

Soldier (known as Jane Doe, likely due to amnesia) is actually a civilian; just don't ever call him that if you value your life. He tried to join the Us Army as a young man during WW2 but was rejected from every branch of the military due to his insanity. (TF2 timeline is set in 1968-1972 for the Gravel War, at which point Gray Mann killed his two twin brothers Blutarch and Redmond Mann and started the Robot War, which is the storyline of Mann vs Machine game mode in TF2, which then ended in 1973 or 1974 or so). Soldier, never deterred by those tiny details, built his own rocket launcher out of trash, bought a plane ticket to Poland (in 1945) and started killing what he thought was "Nazis", and awarded himself medals which he fashioned out of bottle caps... He only stopped when someone finally managed to tell him the war had ended years ago (which was in 1949, whoops). Soldier also claimed (in one of the Halloween comics) that he had been to Guam once (which is another nation where Americans committed war crimes, whoops again), where Soldier allegedly spent time in the jungle and became a shaman-priest. (Vibes of 'Heart of Darkness' and Colonel Kurtz there.) Soldier is also semi-literate at best and can hardly read or write. By the time of the WAR! Soldier vs Demoman storyline, he lived in a pokey apartment filled with guns, gun manazines, and canned army rations, and his paranoia. Later, he became roommate of a 9000 year old Scottish wizard named Merasmus, after accidentally(?) wrecking Merasmus' castle. Merasmus being the current owner of the Bombonomicon, the ancient magical evil talking tome that contains the Secrets of the Black Powder (making bombs), an alchemical secret that the Highland Clan of Black Scotsmen who are Demolitionmen (and -women) by birth has guarded for millenia. The TF2 Demoman, Tavish deGroot, heir to the deGroot lineage, was apprenticed to Merasmus as a boy. One day he sneaked a peek into the forbidden tome, and his eye was cursed, so Merasmus has to remove Tavish's left eyeball (which becomes a giant, evil floating eye each Halloween). The Demoman's empty eyesocket is still haunted, which is when he uses the magic talking sword called the Eyelander, his eyesocket behind the eyepatch is glowing green in-game!

One of my favorite things about TF2 is the emphasis on being a toxic little shit. Theres a system called Dominating where repeatedly killing the same person without them killing you will announce to the entire server that you are dominating that player, and each class has voice lines making fun of the one getting dominated. You even get an achievement for dominating someone and having them leave the game. "C'mon rage quit make us both happy!" - Scout of course on the flip side if you kill the person dominating you it announces to everyone that you got your revenge.
I just realized that some characters has a unique intro theme that fits their character. Sniper has a very cool version of Magnum force playing. In Soldiers intro, marching drums play. In the Demoman outro, you hear bagpipes.
I think the best part is that, as a biiiiig old TF2 fan, Chill Zone calls the red spy is going to the door after soldier blows blue spy's head off. I mean, I've heard a lot of reasons why, but he called it early! I do like that you can figure out that scout was the spy from the beginning because of how irrational it is to force a keypad door with a password like 1111, something even soldier could remember. Which maybe wouldn't have worked if blue spy was the first to encounter him instead of soldier.

The great thing about watching newbs react to the meet the team vids is because it shows us how special the characters really are. Regular players get so used to the setting and personalities that seeing a fresh opinion is just enlightening.

I actually appreciate that you watched all these in order of release than in order of the classes in the game. It enhances the experience a lot more for reacting than people know.
for the meet the spy moment, when the spy disguises as an enemy, the player cant pull out their primary weapon, so if you saw, the heavy and soldier both had their main weapons out but the scout just had his secondary weapon which they are able to pull out, but it is disguised as the person who they are disguised as’ secondary. Fun fact: there is a item in the game called “pyrovision” that actually makes the game look like pyros make believe world
Spy can actually change the weapons that their disguise is wielding. You can do this by pressing the “Quick Disguise” key (B by default, I believe) while holding your own primary (revolver), secondary (sapper), or melee (knife). In the “Meet the Spy” bit, you can see him start to reach for his knife, but he switches it to the sandman when he hears the heavy!

This shows, as, well, there isn't really a "Story" here, the early "Meet the" videos were stylised to be interviews Meet the Sniper: Real snipers actually do pee into jars. Their job involves sitting in one place for hours, so of course they'd want to go to the bathroom, but they CANNOT leave evidence, for any reason, especially if they're assassins. Meet the Engineer: The song Engie's playing is called "More gun"... Also the video features him surrounded by three sentry turrets which is impossible, you can only have one. Meet the Scout: The monologue here makes little sense because, allegedly, the scout was talking to the interviewer about himself for three hours and the battery ran out, and that was what they ended up editing down to. Also, this is the first time they used the real map from the game, if edited. This is Ctf_Well Meet the Demoman: There's a lot of action here and the camera is shaking, but once you pay attention, you'll notice that the action is just tf2 gameplay scripted, and VERY simplistic... Well, at least it does the job in tricking you into thinking a lot is happening... Meet the soldier: First time that the focus character isn't talking to an interviewer or the audience, and the map Soldier is on doesn't seem to exist in game. Meet the Spy: First one where they ACTUALLY attempted a real story, and it's one of the best. At first it was fully canon that there are just... clones on the Red and Blue team now the lore kinda strays from that, because it's rather weird? though those days, Tf2 canon was still rather sane and was just cartoony 60's, no magic, undead or anything (Extra fact) The blu scout (Red spy in disguise) "Cuts" his hand on the balisong, however if you pay attention, he's actually cutting himself with the dull side... clever work from the spy. (Extra EXTRA fact) During the fight between sniper and spy, the spy cuts snipers face with his knife. This was lated added to the model in game as a scar. Meet the Medic: In the original script, the story focused on the creation of the Medigun. And the medigun is actually a modified coffee maker... it oddly enough, still has that function. Meet the Pyro: It is unknown who Pyro is or if he's even human. The song used in "Pyroland" as it's called is "Do you believe in magic" by The Lovin' Spoonful. The theme in the real world is an original called "Dreams of cruelty" by Valve.

If you ever want to know more about the characters the dev team has a comic series that’s canon for the franchise and it’s absolutely worth reading. Just as a few examples: The Soldier is roommates with a legit wizard (who he also stole and ate an entire bottle of die and come back stronger pills from) and is also a lawyer and in some parts of the world a priest The Sniper is actually from New Zealand but was raised by Australians The Demoman’s eye socket he keeps covered can’t grow back eyes from the healing rays Medic has but he can have surgery to get a new one. However every Halloween that eye gets possessed and becomes some kind of monster so Medic stopped giving him new eyes (which have also all been Halloween events in the game)
After this you definitely need to try some of Lazy Purple's content, maybe Soundsmith as well, both make amazing TF2 content with humour that you'd definitely enjoy o7
This game is so iconic that people that don't even know or play the game, know or atleast heard, one of the characters lines but don't know is from that character in tf2
Man, I love playing Demo. He's by far the strongest DPS in the game- Demo with crits can wipe out an entire enemy team in seconds. And he has the single most unique subclass in the game- Demoknight! You ditch your explosives, you get a shield that allows you to charge at enemies, boots that give you a health bonus and most importantly a huge sword that gives you different buffs depending on which one you use- the most common pick is "The Eyelander" which after getting 5 kills with it makes you faster than a Scout and have more health than Soldier (overhealed you have more health than Heavy). You can also play "Hybrid Knight" where you keep the grenade launcher (and even the sticky bomb launcher if you want to) and just have the sword as a solid backup or a finisher- if you manage to get 5 heads with Eyelander as Hybrid Knight, you're the scariest thing in the game.

Despite having not played TF2 in years I still have more play time on it than my next FOUR most played games combined. It is truly a masterpiece.
The Spy can completely become a member of the opposite team, with no way of telling him apart except damage or telltale behavior. A good spy disguised as a sniper will wiggle around like he’s covering a chokepoint, until someone backpedals into them 😂

Fun Fact:
Their where two versions of the scene with Scout in meet the: pyro. With the only difference is he goes "...she's not here is she?!.." instead of "he". I believe it was a hold over from valve originally wanting to make female versions of the mercenaries; though even in lore no one knows the Pyro's true identity, not even Mann Co.
Also fun fact: While we don't know Pyro's gender, we DO know Team Fortress Classic Pyro is a scarred old woman.
"...she's not here is she?!" is a tipo in the subtitles of the normal version but valve left that in to make pyro's gender ambiguous or so i heard.

Soldier (known as Jane Doe, likely due to amnesia) is actually a civilian; just don't ever call him that if you value your life. He tried to join the Us Army as a young man during WW2 but was rejected from every branch of the military due to his insanity. (TF2 timeline is set in 1968-1972 for the Gravel War, at which point Gray Mann killed his two twin brothers Blutarch and Redmond Mann and started the Robot War, which is the storyline of Mann vs Machine game mode in TF2, which then ended in 1973 or 1974 or so). Soldier, never deterred by those tiny details, built his own rocket launcher out of trash, bought a plane ticket to Poland (in 1945) and started killing what he thought was "Nazis", and awarded himself medals which he fashioned out of bottle caps... He only stopped when someone finally managed to tell him the war had ended years ago (which was in 1949, whoops).
Soldier also claimed (in one of the Halloween comics) that he had been to Guam once (which is another nation where Americans committed war crimes, whoops again), where Soldier allegedly spent time in the jungle and became a shaman-priest. (Vibes of 'Heart of Darkness' and Colonel Kurtz there.)
Soldier is also semi-literate at best and can hardly read or write. By the time of the WAR! Soldier vs Demoman storyline, he lived in a pokey apartment filled with guns, gun manazines, and canned army rations, and his paranoia. Later, he became roommate of a 9000 year old Scottish wizard named Merasmus, after accidentally(?) wrecking Merasmus' castle.
Merasmus being the current owner of the Bombonomicon, the ancient magical evil talking tome that contains the Secrets of the Black Powder (making bombs), an alchemical secret that the Highland Clan of Black Scotsmen who are Demolitionmen (and -women) by birth has guarded for millenia. The TF2 Demoman, Tavish deGroot, heir to the deGroot lineage, was apprenticed to Merasmus as a boy. One day he sneaked a peek into the forbidden tome, and his eye was cursed, so Merasmus has to remove Tavish's left eyeball (which becomes a giant, evil floating eye each Halloween). The Demoman's empty eyesocket is still haunted, which is when he uses the magic talking sword called the Eyelander, his eyesocket behind the eyepatch is glowing green in-game!

Fun fact: They only made Demoman black because they thought their original concept for him - a ginger - was too stereotypical and straight of an idea to really fit with the game.
One of my favorite things about TF2 is the emphasis on being a toxic little shit. Theres a system called Dominating where repeatedly killing the same person without them killing you will announce to the entire server that you are dominating that player, and each class has voice lines making fun of the one getting dominated. You even get an achievement for dominating someone and having them leave the game. "C'mon rage quit make us both happy!" - Scout
of course on the flip side if you kill the person dominating you it announces to everyone that you got your revenge.
I just realized that some characters has a unique intro theme that fits their character.
Sniper has a very cool version of Magnum force playing.
In Soldiers intro, marching drums play.
In the Demoman outro, you hear bagpipes.

I do like that you can figure out that scout was the spy from the beginning because of how irrational it is to force a keypad door with a password like 1111, something even soldier could remember. Which maybe wouldn't have worked if blue spy was the first to encounter him instead of soldier.
If you look closelyz the 1 is completely worn out while ever other numbers out nearly pristine.

The great thing about watching newbs react to the meet the team vids is because it shows us how special the characters really are. Regular players get so used to the setting and personalities that seeing a fresh opinion is just enlightening.

I actually appreciate that you watched all these in order of release than in order of the classes in the game. It enhances the experience a lot more for reacting than people know.
for the meet the spy moment, when the spy disguises as an enemy, the player cant pull out their primary weapon, so if you saw, the heavy and soldier both had their main weapons out but the scout just had his secondary weapon which they are able to pull out, but it is disguised as the person who they are disguised as’ secondary.
Fun fact: there is a item in the game called “pyrovision” that actually makes the game look like pyros make believe world
Spy can actually change the weapons that their disguise is wielding. You can do this by pressing the “Quick Disguise” key (B by default, I believe) while holding your own primary (revolver), secondary (sapper), or melee (knife).
In the “Meet the Spy” bit, you can see him start to reach for his knife, but he switches it to the sandman when he hears the heavy!

Meet the Heavy: First one of the bunch, heavy is considered to be the most iconic character. This shows, as, well, there isn't really a "Story" here, the early "Meet the" videos were stylised to be interviews
Meet the Sniper: Real snipers actually do pee into jars. Their job involves sitting in one place for hours, so of course they'd want to go to the bathroom, but they CANNOT leave evidence, for any reason, especially if they're assassins.
Meet the Engineer: The song Engie's playing is called "More gun"... Also the video features him surrounded by three sentry turrets which is impossible, you can only have one.
Meet the Scout: The monologue here makes little sense because, allegedly, the scout was talking to the interviewer about himself for three hours and the battery ran out, and that was what they ended up editing down to. Also, this is the first time they used the real map from the game, if edited. This is Ctf_Well
Meet the Demoman: There's a lot of action here and the camera is shaking, but once you pay attention, you'll notice that the action is just tf2 gameplay scripted, and VERY simplistic... Well, at least it does the job in tricking you into thinking a lot is happening...
Meet the soldier: First time that the focus character isn't talking to an interviewer or the audience, and the map Soldier is on doesn't seem to exist in game.
Meet the Spy: First one where they ACTUALLY attempted a real story, and it's one of the best. At first it was fully canon that there are just... clones on the Red and Blue team now the lore kinda strays from that, because it's rather weird? though those days, Tf2 canon was still rather sane and was just cartoony 60's, no magic, undead or anything
(Extra fact) The blu scout (Red spy in disguise) "Cuts" his hand on the balisong, however if you pay attention, he's actually cutting himself with the dull side... clever work from the spy.
(Extra EXTRA fact) During the fight between sniper and spy, the spy cuts snipers face with his knife. This was lated added to the model in game as a scar.
Meet the Medic: In the original script, the story focused on the creation of the Medigun. And the medigun is actually a modified coffee maker... it oddly enough, still has that function.
Meet the Pyro: It is unknown who Pyro is or if he's even human. The song used in "Pyroland" as it's called is "Do you believe in magic" by The Lovin' Spoonful. The theme in the real world is an original called "Dreams of cruelty" by Valve.
Glad you watched it in order of release instead of class selection order. As far as I know, the early videos were the valve team practicing their new movie maker software.

Funny little detail I never noticed (somehow I notice something new each time I watch a reaction to these) at the end of Meet the Medic; for some reason I always thought Pyro was reading that magazine but no, Pyro gotta do Pyro things and is just trying to burn it with a lighter.
I have never seen anyone guess that twist in meet the spy before the reveal with the knife at the end, you're the first one to do that in my experience, nice job!

What I like most about the Meet The Team series, is that they give each character so much backstory without really giving them backstory. You know?
on the "meet the scout" canonically, scout talked so much that multiple films were used, and the one we see is the only usable footage.
Also there's an official comic online that *Massively* expands upon their story and it only gets crazier.
If you ever want to know more about the characters the dev team has a comic series that’s canon for the franchise and it’s absolutely worth reading. Just as a few examples:
The Soldier is roommates with a legit wizard (who he also stole and ate an entire bottle of die and come back stronger pills from) and is also a lawyer and in some parts of the world a priest
The Sniper is actually from New Zealand but was raised by Australians
The Demoman’s eye socket he keeps covered can’t grow back eyes from the healing rays Medic has but he can have surgery to get a new one. However every Halloween that eye gets possessed and becomes some kind of monster so Medic stopped giving him new eyes (which have also all been Halloween events in the game)
After this you definitely need to try some of Lazy Purple's content, maybe Soundsmith as well, both make amazing TF2 content with humour that you'd definitely enjoy o7

Man, I love playing Demo. He's by far the strongest DPS in the game- Demo with crits can wipe out an entire enemy team in seconds.
And he has the single most unique subclass in the game- Demoknight! You ditch your explosives, you get a shield that allows you to charge at enemies, boots that give you a health bonus and most importantly a huge sword that gives you different buffs depending on which one you use- the most common pick is "The Eyelander" which after getting 5 kills with it makes you faster than a Scout and have more health than Soldier (overhealed you have more health than Heavy). You can also play "Hybrid Knight" where you keep the grenade launcher (and even the sticky bomb launcher if you want to) and just have the sword as a solid backup or a finisher- if you manage to get 5 heads with Eyelander as Hybrid Knight, you're the scariest thing in the game.
