I know what helped me a ton is getting 80-90% done, and then doing a video call with NWT to have them check all my wiring and fix anything I did wrong or still needed to do. Then do another video call when I was at 99% just about ready to connect my battery to everything and actually turn it on. They are such a good company, I can't sing their praises enough! They are just a bunch of motorcycle fanatics who want to see old bikes back on the road with new, cleaner electronics.
For fishing wires through holes use a trick that electricians use for pulling wire through conduit. Tie a little piece of plastic bag to a string and pull through using suction from a shop vac on the other end. Tie the string to your wires and pull back through.
Hi. Love this video. I saw it back on April. Didn’t understand a thing. It seemed very complicated. I started watching your videos to learn as I took on a project (1983 Honda Nighthawk). I finished my project and leaned a lot. From you and other channels and from doing it myself. After all this process. I have an understanding of the wiring and now that I saw this video again, it seems much more simple. Thinking of doing an X-21 on my bike. I want to thank you for your uploads. There are other channels but I think they got too fancy. I like your diy style, because it feel that I can do it. Thanks again for your time.
I love these little controllers. I have been wiring controls for years in the commercial HVAC industry. It’s good to see motorcycles getting things simplified. That is as long it is reliable. If the processor fails (I realize it’s not working that hard) then you are dead in the water.
Great video! Thanks for including the whole thing and not just glossing over half of the install like a lot of other channels to with electrical installs.
I can’t believe the attention to detail, I’m not a fan of wiring but when I have to do it I do it and you make it look fun thanks for that and I’ll catch you on the next one.
Lovely and very informative video, thx BJ. I'm always kinda struggling with choosen the correct CDI setup (GS450) so the manual should sort that out. And love the tip with flexing those wires with the heatgun.
Great video in every aspect when knowing how to explain what and why it just makes it more simpler for people that are watching the video to even perform this modification, Peace.
Duuuuuude you don't even know lol. For every 5 minutes of footage you see in any video is probably at least 1 hour of time invested to plan, record, export, edit, upload lol. Thank you for thinking of that though
Great video, & Great job.. Very educational watching you* work. Thank you* for posting so much of what you* do.. It's really appreciated by so many viewers I'm sure.💯🎥🎬👍👌✌️☮️💖🇺🇲💎💎💎💎💎
I asked a question a week or so back about which of the units do you have specific for a 1986 sportster. Could you please advise, Scott in Southern Oregon
Hey Scott I had answered that one saying these are universal as you are making the harness to the bike. The difficult part is that none of the controls we offer are for 1 inch bars so you would either need to fit 7/8' bars for the S or P or have your desired controls modified.
This video is going to be so helpful for installing my x21, thank you! Quick question: The regulator rectifier doesn't need to be grounded to the body does it, you just used that point as a convenient location?
Nice video. Very detailed and I like that, so thank you and good job. If you put one of these X21 systems on a 75 CB750-four, is it more complicated? Are you going to put one on the blue 750 you did the videos on? And if so, will that be recorded? I run a 75 cafe and the stock harness is absolute overkill in my opinion. Would be interested to know if it can be simplified cause I think that would also make it more reliable, even though I have no issues with mine.
So this system would install in a very similar way. As the idea is to remove your stock harness having different install videos for different bikes is almost pointless as you can apply everything here to a cb750. Your charging system would vary as well as ignition but that is all labeled in the installation guide
Great work! Would you reckon that the X21 is a better option for me compared to the M unit for a 1983 SR 500 (Kickstarter, only one of those small batteries, electric Power only when bike running)? I am shortly upgrading the headlight and indicators to LED lights + put in a digital speedometer. But im worried about blowing electronic components when trying to Kick it into life (spikes etc). It would be nice to clean up the current setup of wires stuffed into the headlight
For keeping things simple I really like the x21 with the perfect example being on this bike. I wouldn't worry at all about damaging components when kicking as thats just normal use.
ok thanks - its a cheaper alternative than the moto unit which seems for more complicated electrical bike systems and is overkill for my simple little Thumper :) @@BrickHouseBuilds
Hey i currently just finished building my cl175 and im on to my wiring. Ive been looking for a set up like this but i have found a lot other then the M-unit by motogadget and the blackbox by all purpose moto. What would you say is the difference between those and you X21 system? And with your system are your controls already wired to the plug that goes to the X21 leaving your lights, ignition and others to be wired after?
Well I'm glad you have found the X21. As far as differences are concerned all of the ones you listed operate along the same basic premise with smart control power output. What I can say for the X21 is that it is modern and uses the latest tech, the manufacturer of the product also designed it, and it is always being evolved based on what customers want to see. If you haven't already please check out my website and look for the install guide PDFs for all of our products. That gives you full info for how to wire them. We also have a 2 year no hassle warranty and the best support. I have a lotnof information out on this stuff so Its a matter of going through it.
In your CX500 build you put the reg/rec under the tank instead of the tray here. I have a reg/rec I want to mount in the electronics tray of my GL500 build but I am worried about heat. Any issues from this build or should I not worry about putting it in the tray? It would get similar airflow to this video.
While having airflow is a good thing it's not always necessary. I've never had one fail on me. Do your best to have the fins face upward as heat rises. If not, have them to the side. Just don't mount them upside down. Also, a mosfet reg/rec will run cooler due to its internal design
@@BrickHouseBuilds AWSOME thanks for the reply. The factory harness is not in good shape at all and has alot of extra crap in it. Once i get to that part this will be how i fix it
Now it's a Habit. Not gonna lie. I start one of these and I end up on craigs list. Ya know ~. all the used motorcycles available in the area. Just one leads to the other. Totally out of control. This stuff is just my craigs list conduit. Oh well. Got to go. ~~~ But ~~~ "I'll be back!" ~✨🌸🌟🌸✨~. from Nahampsha

Thanks Andrew! That's how I like to do it
This should be super helpful for so many people! Thanks for putting this out into the world BJ! 🙌🏻
I appreciate that sir
This is a great video, I am a ignorant when wires come to the bikes, this is something more people should be teaching. Thank you for your hard work.

Well thats good to hear!
Great, clear explanation of the X21 system installation. 👏👏👏
I appreciate it John
Real nice video, can’t wait to put it on my Yamaha SRX600 project! Same style (electronic wise) bike as this Suzuki, so should be perfect.
Oh that will be cool!
One thing that can be useful is you can get label printers that print onto heat shrink tube. Useful for labelling wires without relying on colours.
True but at this point I have the color codes memorized lol
@@BrickHouseBuilds , yeah, but some of us have a memory like a sieve!
Real easy to follow and I learned a lot too. Cheers Richie.

Thanks Frank and I do hope it will be helpful! To you question, correct. The body doesn't need to be grounded it was just a convenient spot.
Do those fancy instructional sheets come with the X21? If not, can you purchase them?
They are available in pdf form online even without a purchase. You can access them at anytime
@@BrickHouseBuilds awesome! Thanks bro 😁
That handle bar wire pull would have never gone that well for me! Lol!
It definitely wasn't easy. Very time consuming process but very clean results
I can't believe how affordable these units are.

Does this have a built-in starter solenoid relay in it like the M-unit?
This controls the starter solenoid yes. The solenoid is external from the control hub itself
Looking into this on an f11 cafe thing im attempting. Would it happen to work on a 6 volt bike?
Very cool! Yes it works with 6v just fine.
