Back in Ct. the radio station I listened to would do a count down of the top 100 songs as voted on by the listeners. This song took the #1 spot 10 years in a row.
My son was like 13. We're riding in the car. This song comes on. I changed the channel. My son was like, 'Dad! That's a great song!' I said, 'Yeah, but I've heard it 3,000 times.' I put it back on. He rocked out. You forget what it was like when this was fresh.
I became sick of Stairway to Heaven during the 70's because it was so ridiculously overplayed on the radio, to the point where I almost never wanted to hear it again lol. I swear you couldn't go a half-hour listening to any rock station then without hearing it come on. But its just too good of a song to stay mad at forever.
It's overplayed because it's a song which no other band can't ever top it! It's my favorite song of all time! There is a cover song by Heart which is really good! They did this song justice. Check it out! Zeppelin rules! Rock on!✌❤🎶
July 4, 1979: I’m 15, local station, KRTH (K-EARTH 101) in Los Angeles has their annual “Firecracker 300”. The top 300 songs of all time. I record a song here and there. They finally finish with #2 and go to commercial. I set up my stereo cassette recorder to record. I had NEVER heard of Led Zeppelin or “Stairway to Heaven” and it starts. I’m alone in my living room and recline all the way back on the recliner ready for a trip I somehow (like you) knew I was going on. And so it builds with acoustic guitar, organ, whispering vocals intro drums, then suddenly, thundering drums and lighting guitars, the whaling vocals, the wind-down and a whisper. I was EXHAUSTED and a LedHead forever. I had tickets on September 25, 1980 when John Bonham died. Watch “No Quarter” - LIVE at MSG 1973. GET HEADPHONES!!
This song is what I call "through the roof". It broke the scale of 1-10, went clean through the roof of the studio and the world was never the same again.
This song is pure art. They didn't know it when they wrote it, that this song would be such a historical phenomenon and would influence the world of music forever. In 500 years people will look back to the 20th century and this song will be one of the main focuses.
58 year old white women here obsessed with British Rock my whole life The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Zeppelin, Tull, Black Sabbath, etc. I am getting such a kick out of you guys! Keep it up 😊
When I was in College the School radio station would play this at 4:30 on Fridays after Classes and the students in the huge Quad would crank their Stereos with the Big -Ass Speakers in the Windows! Epic!
I’ve seen probably every reaction to this song on RUclips and this one is my favorite. I feel the exact same way you guys do every time I hear this song 👊🏻 respect to you guys
Nice channel. Good to see young guys opening up their horizons to something outside the comfort zone. There's so much good music out there from the 60's, '70's and '80's. If you dive into the '60's do NOT bypass MoTown music, Sam Cooke, Smoky Robinson, Richie Havens, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Spinners, The Supremes to name a few.
Gotta watch this live!!! Best song ever!!!! MSG! Saw them in 1976! Nose bleed seats but loved every second! Will never forget being 16 yrs old seeing Zeppelin my favorite band ever! Now I can die happy!!!!❤️love how you guys love them too!
Love how you guys left the car, lol! Led Zeppelin: Making people get out of their cars to compose themselves since 1969... Cool reaction to a timeless song. Y'all might not dig just how BIG this song is in the rock community. It consistently nabs the top or one of the top 3 or 5 positions in any given "Greatest rock song ever" type of list. It's what you call an "anthem." It's almost a cliche in some weird way. Robert Plant ended up not wanting to sing this in concert, I THINK because it sort of became an obligation or something. Don't listen to me. Listen to the song again. And again. Those of us who have heard this masterpiece countless times sometimes get a new perspective on it by imagining we're hearing it for the first time. Like you guys just so wonderfully did!
I've said this before in numerous fandoms but it's always true: you can experience something for the first time only once, but watching someone else experience something you love for the first time is the next best thing.
Y'all need to listen to Heart's live rendition of this song. Led Zeppelin was honored at The Kennedy Center Honors, and Heart played this song (which takes BALLS to play in front of Zepplin, but those ladies slayed it). John Bonam's son, Jason, played drums for the performance, wearing his father's signature bowler hat. The three surviving members of Led Zep, John Paul Jones (bass), Jimmy Paige (guitar), and Robert Plant (vocals) were blown away. Robert Plant HATES when people cover that song, he says they always butcher it. But he was in tears by the end of Heart's performance. Life changing, you need to see it.
Man....I gotta tell you guys....as an old guy that grew up with 60's and 70's music....it does my heart real good that you young guys truly appreciate this music. It IS TIMELESS.
That’s love! We really like them and can’t wait to dive more into this genre! We are going to start doing some Pink Floyd next, we have heard a lot of great things about them also!
The intro to this song came from a band called SPIRIT. When they toured the UK, Led Zep saw them and asked if they could use it on this song. Spirit said "We would be honored". The rest is history!!
I saw Led Zeppelin in concert in 1968 and 1969. I am about the same age as the singer Robert Plant. The song that was most amazing live was Dazed and Confused. You can see a great live version from their 1973 concert at Madison Square Garden. You can easily find a video of this on You Tube
You guys, I've been listening to this song on a frequent basis for more than fifty years now, and if you can believe it possible, I still think it sounds better every time I hear it. You have to wonder, how the hell did the world ever get by, before this song came out?
The last track played every Friday and Saturday night at the Dark House, The Borough, last orders called, new pint in hand, speakers in the ceiling, here it comes, ear splitting, bass through the chest, head bangers going mad, standing outside when the tracks done, leather jackets, cut offs, long hair, white converse boots, finishing ya pint and Fish n Chips from next door and a staggered walk home in the rain, smiling the biggest smile, humming a few bars, all round a mates gaff, bottle of Newkey Brown (dog). Settle in for the night!
Love that you recognize the drumming. Bonham was sensational and you totally get it. It's not just what he plays, it's the soul, feel and swagger that goes into it.
Oh my gosh..oh my gosh...oh my gosh! This song has no words to describe it. It's THE perfect song. It will never be topped. Zeppelin rules! Rock on guys!✌❤🎶😎
Really loved how yall played most of the song without pausing. You paused at the right times and didn't ruin the flow of this beautiful song. Great reaction.
The last two minutes are like Beethoven. Just an incredible climax of symphonies and feeling. Heard it 1000 times and I still listened for the first time with you. The drums are incredible, down to just that little snare quad (I think) at the beginning of the measure that kind of surprises you each time. There had been a lot of technical musicianship put into music before this came out, lots of prog and art jazz and what not, but this was the pinnacle of composition that still had rock and roll at its heart. Still a masterpiece.
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Expect many more reactions like this one in the future. Some of the next ones you may want to react to include Ten Years Gone, Rock N' Roll, Immigrant Song, Black Dog, Communication Breakdown, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and too many others to mention. Mix it up a bit with Pink Floyd, who will also blow your mind. Enjoy the ride, guys!
Brilliant + geniune reaction, great to see young people enjoying and discovering this great, influential, set of musicians that made led zep. I am a professional musician because of these guys. I remember the first time i listened to them. It was a paradigm shift moment. Enjoy discovering their 8 albums.
Nah we love all genres of music, actually my (Zay) favorite artist is tame impala! I know all his stuff and love his vibe and he has a lot of songs on this same spectrum! And my mom loves all these bands and grew up on them so it’s really dope to finally listen and get into them! Appreciate the comment tho, all love! 🙌
THIS IS THE GREATEST ROCK ANTHEM/SONG OF ALL TIME!! about the lyrics AND as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our souls, there walks a lady we all know, who shines bright light and wants to show, how everything still turns to gold, and if you listen very hard, the truth will come to you at last, when one is all, and all is one, to be a rock, and NOT to roll, ....The lady, finds salvation, finds the true light to heaven. And its still ALL GOLD! When you give up your materialistic ways!
Awesome you Guys, the best reaction ever to the Masterpiece...I mean it...to see the shock and amazement on your faces is priceless but what really matters is how much you guys are appreciating the best rock band ever. Keep going ..no matter what song you pick it will be a rewarding experience..."OH MY GOD !!!" (Check Steve Parker's comments for suggestions)
Personally Huckle,.. One of my favorites is the levee song, You know "When the levee breaks." THERE are so many fantastic ones "Cashmere." LED Zeppelin is like Pink Floyd you could just listen and listen and listen and one fabulous song after another would scald your heart 😮💔💖
Stairway is definitely the song that should be your first, (but certainly not your last), live Led Zeppelin song. Most who see it say it is the greatest live performance they have ever seen....As you go down this journey you'll realize how great this band really is. As a suggestion another song that is often overlooked, but definitely one of their greatest masterpieces is a song called 'How Many More Times' on their first album. Listen to the studio or album version first before you listen to it live. I recommend you make it your next reaction. It's one of their best songs to show off all of the talent of everyone in the band in one song as well as being a roller coaster ride of a song and one funky ass tune. It definitely will take you on a joyride.
This will take the cake for you guys man! lol tune. Next trip after Zep is Pink Floyd. Though you have to listen to In My Time of Dying by Zep to! So many songs on this journey
Love that you guys love this. Would never picture two young brothas diggin this as such. There is so much we can all learn from each other. Led Zep was a complete universe and thats exactly how we used to listen to it in the car playin the drums and all lol
There's a reason this is considered one of the greatest songs of the rock era. Two others: The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" and Yes' "Roundabout." Not many other songs of that caliber.
Misty Mountain Hop, Black Dog, Going to California and Battle of Evermore. Nobody’s Fault but Mine, In the Light and Wanton Song, Trampled Underfoot. These are some of their very best.
This is the ultimate build song…….guitar, add flute, add vocal…..bass comes in…..another verse…..add the greatest drummer of all time……build to climax….exhale. Think about it…….they sat out the best drummer of his time for the first half of the song
It's sad there isn't any new bands close to Led zeppelin. I've been rocking out to them for over 40 years and still going !! I really enjoy watching you 2 young men and your love of music. 2 new Led heads 😂!
The live 1973 MSG version is a must after this, before you listen to Heart's 2007 tribute. You have to hear them do it live before any other live versions, IMO.
Or better yet, Hearts tribute at the Kennedy Center. 2012. Not only were the surviving members of Led Zeppelin in the audience, but the Obama's as well! To top that off, John Bonham's son was playing drums that night.
🙄 mom wouldn't let me go in JHS at first. 😏 Have no idea how happy I was to finally start work at 16. 😁 Paid for my own MSG nosebleed tickets in HS. 😆 Didn't even mind Knicks & Rangers Banners blocking my view! His vocals hit us hard like we were in the 3rd row front! 🤩🐰
I think the heart tribute maybe the greatest cover of any song ever. Stairway I always felt was a song that should never be touched until I saw that performance
PLEASE ADD "ALL MY LOVE" to your list!! ALSO.... If you like this song? Watch the surviving members of Led Zepplin see it performed for them at the Kennedy Center Honors with the Obama's.. It brings Plant to tears and will for you as well.....
It’s so fun seeing young people discover this (I’m actually around your age if not a little younger I’d guess). But I’ve always loved older music and rock specifically. Can’t wait to see more reactions 🤟
You guys have made me dig out my old original Led Zeppelin albums! I hadn't listened to them in years! Now I'm hearing them like it was the first time, but with a deeper appreciation of they were giving us! Thanks! Keep up this journey into the transformative power of music!!
If your gonna do some more Zeppelin… make your next two songs The Lemon Song and How many more times…! In that order! Can’t wait to see y’all’s reactions! Oh n one more thing… WELCOME to REAL music, we’re just getting started 😀😎🔥
How Many More Times is such an awesome song. I don't know why or how it gets overlooked so much. The only explanation is they have so many great songs that even a song is great is that is gets hidden in the pile of them all.
I love watching the younger generations listening to music from our generations and seeing them light up just like we did when we heard it the first time. It gives me a lot of joy to be able to share our love of this music with those that want to appreciate it. Love you gents and enjoy for the first time as we did.
@@zayzel2670 When you do, go back and listen to the songs you've covered again. You're missing out on a lot by not hearing the music first with headphones. For me, I can't listen to LZ if the sound is bad so I unsubscribed. Sorry. ;)
Thanks for pulling the Led out again! Best reaction to this song ever. The look on your faces as you discover these tunes is priceless. We Led Heads will certainly stick around to watch more. ✌🏼❤️
If you're going to react to the live version of this, please do the one from Madison Square Garden first before doing any others - the guitar solo alone is a master class in musicianship and skill. ruclips.net/video/xbhCPt6PZIU/видео.html This song was intentionally created to begin slowly and speed up until it reached the end. John Paul Jones played wooden recorders at the beginning and an electric piano. He would play a Mellotron (an early synthesizer) in concert. The lyrics are a bit ambiguous, allowing for the listener to discern their own meaning. That iconic guitar solo was the best out of three takes. It is considered one of the best, if not THE best rock song ever. Glad you're enjoying your Zep journey so far!
This song is like a religious experience. Genius
This song will never die. It's as eternal as Hallelujiah.
Back in Ct. the radio station I listened to would do a count down of the top 100 songs as voted on by the listeners. This song took the #1 spot 10 years in a row.
It’s hard to believe that 50 years later, people still amazed at their music!
Rock achieves perfection when the drums kick in on Stairway to Heaven.
My son was like 13. We're riding in the car. This song comes on. I changed the channel. My son was like, 'Dad! That's a great song!' I said, 'Yeah, but I've heard it 3,000 times.'

This is one song that I prefer the MSG live performance over the studio version.
Yeah, I was definitely that little kid myself, when I first discovered Led Zeppelin. Must've drove my dad insane. Or he loved it. Or both.
@@dianaspears571 I agree but I feel someone's first listen should be the studio version
It's overplayed because it's a song which no other band can't ever top it! It's my favorite song of all time!

Zeppelin will leave you speechless.
The 4 Members of Led Zeppelin are GOAT.
It's okay boys, we've all been overwhelmed by inexplicable feelings the first time we really listened that solo.
For like 30 years this was the number one rock ‘n’ roll tune
Led Zeppelin just took everything to another level. Their music will be around and relevant for another 50 years easy.
I couldn’t agree with you more. Zepplin will be spoken about just as they speak of Mozart or Bach.
One side of your stereo isn't projecting the 12 string!!!

Always cool to see the younger generation discover what i did in the seventies! Keep rockin
Discovering Zep is life changing!
And Karen Carpenter....the number #1 female voice!!!
IN THE LIGHT. you'll love it. Guaranteed
It just gets better🤯💯💯🎶
This will take the cake for you guys man! lol tune. Next trip after Zep is Pink Floyd. Though you have to listen to In My Time of Dying by Zep to! So many songs on this journey
Love that you guys love this. Would never picture two young brothas diggin this as such. There is so much we can all learn from each other. Led Zep was a complete universe and thats exactly how we used to listen to it in the car playin the drums and all lol
Live version a must!!
Plus watch the Celebration Day performance of Kashmir!! They are older but will blow your mind!
There's a reason this is considered one of the greatest songs of the rock era. Two others: The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" and Yes' "Roundabout." Not many other songs of that caliber.
Best band EVER.
Great reaction! Thanks
Thanks Michelle!!
Anytime you hear woodwind instruments it’s actually John Paul Jones on the keyboard
Picture this, " 1969 driving around in a 4 door 57 chevy bombing mail box's with green oranges listening to this! It was GREAT!
Yass! Masterpiece. Period.
It's sad there isn't any new bands close to Led zeppelin. I've been rocking out to them for over 40 years and still going !! I really enjoy watching you 2 young men and your love of music. 2 new Led heads 😂!
What cool reactions .. Agree .. we all love Zep!!
Yes yes yes !!!!
@@anthonyinsetta6046 Yes yes yes!!!
You have to watch some of their live stuff.......especially from Madison Square Garden
Hahahahaha when you guys had to leave the car killed me. Best reaction yet xD
I would HIGHLY recommend their song, Ten Years Gone (1990 Remaster).
You must listen to stairway live version from msg next. Jimmys solo is beyond epic !!!!!
Voted by many polls to be the number one song of al time…it is to me.
I love watching the younger generations listening to music from our generations and seeing them light up just like we did when we heard it the first time. It gives me a lot of joy to be able to share our love of this music with those that want to appreciate it. Love you gents and enjoy for the first time as we did.
I saw them in concert 50 years ago and I will never forget how good I felt for the next couple of weeks.
Do you guys need me to send you HEADPHONES!!
All we have is the car right now, Stick with us and I promise we will get there in the future!
@@zayzel2670 LZ fans are the best, and when they want to send you something, it's from the heart. I suggest you humbly take their generous offer!! 👍❤🤙
Thanks Michael. ❤
@@zayzel2670 When you do, go back and listen to the songs you've covered again. You're missing out on a lot by not hearing the music first with headphones. For me, I can't listen to LZ if the sound is bad so I unsubscribed. Sorry. ;)
All good! Have an amazing day! 🙌
Thanks for pulling the Led out again! Best reaction to this song ever. The look on your faces as you discover these tunes is priceless. We Led Heads will certainly stick around to watch more. ✌🏼❤️
Best reaction ever
❤️
Again, so fun to watch you guys hear this stuff for the first time. Nice to know the song still has the effect it did 50 years ago.
You guys are great man. You get it. You feel it.
Thanks Russell! You the man! 🎸❤️
After you are done with this. Then you have to check out Heart's Stairway to Heaven while Led Zeppelin is watching them.
I loved when yall got out! 10/10!
Need to see and hear it live. You’ll be blown away with the guitar solo
You guys need to watch the live version of this song. If you liked this solo the live version is an extended guitar solo...Its epic!!
