    I love this episode, how the old man just messes with them the whole time. Friday and Gannon look like asses here; they have such tunnel vision on suspects that it never occurred to them to say, "Are you former law enforcement or something?" which they certainly would if they were at a party and he were talking about investigative procedures and evidence analysis in such detail.

    • @flashkellam7395
      @flashkellam7395 Год назад +3

      In fairness, early in the episode, Lampe confirmed that he was a lifelong reader of detective magazines, so Gannon thought that he was simply a crime buff. And Lampe had no memorabilia from his police career on his walls (because he was retired and wanted to live a quiet life). So Gannon had no indication that Lampe was retired law enforcement.

      I think Joe and Bill were respectful to Mr (Chief) Lampey. The Chief was kinda playing a bit of a game with Joe and Bill. Sure he could have ID'd himself as a (retired) policeman right away but he looks like he was more interested in seeing if the "younger" detectives had any Moxie on the ball. Think about it this way, Chief Lampey (as a representative of ANY senior "tradesman") probably spent half of his time learning his promoted position and the other half teaching his prior rank to an underling. when we discover that "Hugh" (Captain Hugh Brown) was a neophite to Chief Lampey it all kind of clicks into place. I think Chief Lampey was pleased with Joe and Bill's work (and you just know that Hugh woulda caught an earful had they not been as well seasoned as they were).
      The fact that Joe and Bill invited Chief Lampey in for the "Big Bust" was just a way of acknowledging (and showing the ultimate respect to him) for what the chief represented to them. Even Joe's line after the chief told them THEY'd solved the case ("Did we?") further supports that thought.
      All in all, THIS was one of the better episodes, not so much about solving a case but an acknowledgement about those who mentor us (regardless of the "trade").
