------------------// FOOTNOTES \\ -------------------
1. KEEP VIDEO SHORT.
First go thru all the footage and only use the good stuff. Start with the most cinematic stuff and fill in the gaps with other footage if necessary.
2. BASIC RELATABLE EMOTIONS. We appreciate the small things, the human moments in these videos. Sometimes the videographers don't know they got something because they are focus on only what is beautiful, these moments make the video so much more rich.
3. MAKE EVERYTHING SLOWMO
I use TWIXTOR, but Premier and final cut have their own versions of making slowmo. One good tip is if your computer cannot handle the playback of slowmo, just export that small clip and re-import it into your edit. Save it into its own SLOWMO folder and make sure to export at the bitrate of what it was shot at-- so its close to lossless.
***DOWNLOAD TWIXTOR HERE revisionfx.com/...
4. STOCK FOOTAGE WEBSITES
They can get pricey, but if it's worth saving a client, then maybe its worth it. These are the ones I use.
-PEXELS (FREE)
-DISSOLVE
-POND5
-FILM SUPPLY (THE BEST, SUPER EXPENSIVE)
5.FIND OTHER FOOTAGE
Facebook, Instagram, photos.....heck, even footage from their parent's wedding!
6. RESHOOT
Who said reshoots are only for blockbuster films? I reshot a wedding 2 years after, and it didn't involve and wedding settings, or bride or groom. You can reshoot anything. Use a tight lens, focus on whats going to give you the same feeling of footage you are missing.
7. GIVE MEANING TO YOUR MEANINGLESS FOOTAGE
Lev Vladimirovich Kuleshov was a Russian and Soviet filmmaker and film theorist, one of the founders of the world's first film school, the Moscow Film School.
7. MULTIPLE TIMELINE NARRATIVE.
Every Christopher Nolan film ever made.
8. ROYALTY FREE MUSIC
ARTLIST.IO
EPIDEMICSOUND.COM
Nuff said, but maybe we are entering a time where music is used freely and right holders just monetize?
9. SONG USED
MYSTERY OF LOVE - SUFJAN STEVENS
known from the movie "call me by your name". And no I'm not gay, I was just an actor for 10 years and know good acting.
10. OVERLAYS
The LIGHT RAYS overlay was created in DaVinci Resolve 14, totally free BTW. Super easy, just drag and drop.
The Flare overlay was also a drag and drop in Premier pro, it was keyframed to add a little movement.
11. GUIDING THE AUDIENCE
FILM GRAIN- This can be done for aesthetics as well, in this case, it was a little of both. Film grain was a free download from DISSOLVE stock footage.
12. SAVE PIXILATED FOOTAGE
By adding a MATTE CAMERA SCREEN, (setting opacity to screen) you are giving the audience a voyeuristic feeling, as well as making use of the terrible footage. Subconsciously, we are more forgiving of that type of footage with a camera overlay around it. Another idea would be to add an iPhone overlay, or perhaps make the framing 4x3 to make it look really old...... In this case, I wanted to make it a touch different from the other "old" footage.
13. VOICEOVER
This is a great option to use, I wish I expanded on this, but Its such a delicate art form that needs its own episode. Here are some voice over alternatives.
-Poems
-Alan Watts teachings
-Carl Sagan
-Movie Monologues

It‘s like Peter McKinnon without wasting 90% of the episode with unrelated chitchat and making coffee. This stuff is just packed with good tips from start to finish. Well done brotha! Keep them coming!!!
Thanks yo. I def don't have anything against PM, the dudes a legend. Set the bar very high for creators and gave a lot of tools away.
Two things to consider.
1. A 10 minutes video performs better than a 9 minute video. RUclips algorithm .
2. At a certain point you get good at breaking down difficult concepts and piecing then into small digestible segments for your audience--- all while leaving room for a follow up video. Economizing how much information you give away is a skill set. One that I have in all honestly not perfected.
If you add those two concepts up, you can see that the structure of his show and others like him, it's a refinement of the art, and sustainability of material / information moving forward.
Just my thoughts! I could be wrong!
MAKE. ART. NOW. For sure! Didn‘t want to bash PMK since I have huge respect for him and really like his stuff. However, I sometimes don‘t feel like watching his latest vlogs as I‘m worried how long I have to sit through chitchat until I‘ll learn something. This might be different for other viewers who simply enjoy being entertained by his personality for 10+ minutes.
I also appreciate that you put the essentials of your vids in the description.
@@FlyingHazel I see both sides, but I def enjoy PMK even when not learning something. The entertaining factors is worth the time. In addition, I know his knowledge is coming so worth the banter, IMO.
i love this comment.
can't agree with with u more, dont understand why this isnt a million subs channel??
This is so well done, you’re friends are so lucky to know you
TO SKIP TO THE END RESULT (MIN 7:56)
MAKE. ART. NOW. I’ve watched two of your videos now and I’ve got to say, I’m all in. Super entertaining and helpful too. I appreciate how candid and honestly you speak your mind. Nice job turning this potential disaster of a video into something beautiful. Great work! Subbed!
What'd your friends think of the result?
Don't listen to him. Just watch from the beginning. You will be super happy.
Wow this footage bought me to tears, you hit the emotional element absolutely spot on. Hats of to you and your talent.
ho boy, I just learned so much, you are an amazing creator. great story teller. and challenge solutioner.
Thanks dude!
that was incredible!! horrible footage, but you had vision, that INSPIRED me man!
You're real nice to do this for your friends. Props buddy.
Really inspiring stuff. Your creativity and knowledge really saved that video
You have a bright future! Subscribed after watching this video.
Ill take it! Thanks!
Thank you so much for such a fantastic insight!!
YW!
This dude is a Genius !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who is watch in 2020
Did you say you don't monetize your channel? Can I ask why not? Just because of how much pop music you use throughout your videos?
No, its because I would rather have you guys buy products from companies that I feel worthy of your hard earned money, NOT the opposite scenario (companies who feel my content is worthy of their ads) . My thought may eventually change but thats how I feel right now.
MAKE. ART. NOW.
Thanks for the info. Also, I'm really enjoying this channel and I hope it keeps growing!
MAKE. ART. NOW. Have you considered making a patreon? It's a great way for your fans to reward you for the excellent content you make!
MAKE. ART. NOW. You’re an idiot.
How is he an Idiot ?
smartly done!
Thanks dude!!
WOW!!! Slow clap commences...
Best f*ckin channel on YT.
You NAILED it! I love the effort you put into this project, the results looked amazing!
Thanks Dude!!! You guys have a super huge channel! That means a lot to lil ole me!
Hey jordy i love ur channel
There are times when you randomly click on a thumb nail, get completely blown away by the video and subscribe because of the amazing creator you just found. Fantastic job.
That's Awesome! Thanks Chris!!!! I'm def trying to coin REVERSE BAIT!
That's exactly how it happened for me. How could you not subscribe!
Me too. +1sub
+1 exactly what just happened to me. Great video! Subscribed.
MAKE. ART. NOW. That's also the same thing I did. I was just browsing some stuff on video editing because I'm getting into it.. and wow, bam, super impressive and useful RUclips content out of nowhere. Thanks!
I actually cried at the final clip... LOVED THIS... You deserve so many more subs.
True and it will happen!
The epitome of “we’ll fix it in post”
Resourceful af.
It is both horrifying and hilarious that you used stock footage and reshot B roll for their wedding video but the results work very well considering everything.
The old camcorder overlay is sharp thinking. Nicely done.
i was cringing when he said stock footage
The best part about clickbait titles is when its not clickbait at all! You 100% delivered!!
REVERSE CLICK BAIT!
Not clickbait? A title that says how to make awful video cinematic with a video telling you to shoot new footage. Yeah l, not clickbait at all
MountainKing626 he used the footage but just shot more? Get outta here
egards! some cool stuff. trying to put together cool commercials for my job
Unfortunately this one is clickbait. The only bit that related to the TITLE at all was using Twixtor to extract more emotion out of the existing footage that actually wasn't even "awful".
This is actually a fantastic exercise for developing both film making skills in Post and for developing a greater appreciation for Planning and Shooting, the harder you work with what you have, the stronger your instincts for what you can work with when you shoot. Great Work! I definitely identify with your optimism.
bigshooter461 EXACTLY!!
Thanks dude!!!!
No hate, but just using diffrent footage or distortion/effects so it looks like the footage is supposed to be that way is not really making something good out of bad footage.
He made a bad video though...
@@michaelerbreviews No its not. Just like buying a new phone is not repairing your phone.
Did this guy just make a b-roll of his b-roll while b-rolling?
he might have......he just might have.
B-rollception
YES, HE B-Rolled
It's a wrap.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL "They b rolling... they hating..."
That was amazing. The fact that you went back to the place to record some B Roll shows just what an incredible gesture that was.
It was a 15 minute drive from my house.......But the idea of RESHOOTING a wedding had never occurred to me till that moment.
ONE MORE THING! How did they react???
Eduardo Bispo I guess we’ll never know...
Actually. I guess we all know...
Clients may or may not contact you if they love it or not🤦.
I guess we wanna see
@@ChrisParayno These were his friends though, so they probably let him know.
Next tutorial challenge: Make SUPER CINEMATIC footage AWFUL!
Done!.....see any of my first videos I shot!
Man, that was really incredible! Well done!!!
Thanks dude!
Great save. Good suggestion to return to get B-roll from main location.
You are a beast man. I dont how I found this channel but, I cant leave now. Im Hooked!
I agree :D
Lmao same
Same here!
Wow very well done. The icing on the cake would've been the if you filmed their reaction. Either way nice!
Yes, I was hoping for that as well, haha!
so there about as cinematic as a congressional hearing lmao
True.
I have to scroll through the comments before I post... You beat me too it... Well played...😎
Most underrated channel I've seen, needless to say, BIGGEST Thumbs up man, I've seen channels with over 1m subscribers with much less views than this. So that should tell you something, not that you needed me to, but us viewers notice. Keep it up, subscribed for sure... sharing your channel in 3,2,1.. go!
Your film descriptions, Super awesome. Making the most of the challenging footage will totally improve creative flow, technique and confidence. Thanks for sharing. Your channel rocks
I totally agree
as cinematic as a constitutional hearing lol
The original video guy must be happy that his job is used as an example of crap 😝😝😝
Hopefully he never watches it. Originally I wanted to put him on blast, but it really wasn't his fault. A few major personal issues cropped up last minute for the guy, so I totally understand.
I mean, if your card fucks you up, you'll only find out later, so in that sense, I'm with the guy...
@@CreativoErratico that is why you need to use cameras with two card slots, if you are a professional always be prepared for the worst
One of most creatively helpful videos I’ve ever seen man! It gives me hope for shoots that go terribly; they can be recovered! I’ll be referring back to this regularly. Especially after our collab. We know what a train wreck that’ll be.
"There is two butterfly making love , ah!! ah!! here they go again."
I don't even know these people, and that wedding video made me tear up. Well done recovering the footage and making something gorgeous - you put a LOT of effort into that endeavour!
Thanks dude!
This is so sick man. You wouldn't believe how much this inspired me.. No McKinnons video ever left me so inspired, you sir are my guide. Keep inspiring, love from Croatia ;)
Thanks dude!
Dude, this was amazing! This video has inspired me beyond belief. I wouldn't have been able to create as good of video as you did if I had 20 hours of b roll and 5 angles of the entire wedding! What an absolutely remarkable talent you have man, so glad you're not bagging groceries somewhere wasting it! Keep the videos coming, hands down my favorite channel on the tube.
John Mayer making video's now
The only difference between me and John Mayer is at the end of my lyrics is a "bro".
Example.
"Your body is a wonderland, bro."
LOL
jesus ahaha
Tim Boersma lol
Billy Crudup actually!
You seem to have done similar edit quite alot. :-D Good job. Really entertaining and educational.
I took on a similar challenge of making a wedding video for my brother from shaky poor gimbal footage. 🤦🏼♂️ More B roll footage would have helped smooth it out.
2/10 needed more butterfly action
Agree. And that song could have used a little more cow bell.
I love your videos dude. Straight to the point, no arrogant personality. You've got me excited again about video!
Great job, you're thinking in the right direction and completely out of the box. Respect!
You took blown out, seemly unusable footage and made a video that *almost* made me tear up and I don’t even know the couple! Bravo man.
This was incredible. So cool to see turning a little into A LOT
It was a lot of fun actually! very challenging. Thanks for watching Logan!
“We are so fucked here” hahaha that killed me. Looks awesome! You’re making my bad shots feel so much more usable!
This is education. Thanks for the insights into your thought process with a few history and classroom lessons thrown in! Just randomly ran across your channel, now I'm a subscriber...keep up the good work!
That was super inspiring. Incredible editing!
That was absolutely perfect! This is the first video I’ve ever watched of yours and I’ll be around a lot more! Thanks for the help and ideas for my shoots and channel!!
Mad respect my man. This is pretty much pulling a live rabbit out of a hat after the rabbit ate the full deck of cards and was cut in half time Get the cards back. ✌️
BAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHHAH
Of course you are here Harvey, I don't think there is a cinematic creator you don't know about :)
Did you just say as cinematic as a congressional hearing? I'm cryin' laughing!
Superb! Would love to see more content from this channel! Really worth a sub!
My pregnant ass is crying so hard right now. Just beautiful 💕
I used tnt to blow up the like button... Now im commenting via my moms phone
BOOOOOM !!!!

“We’re so fucked here” -the story of my video creation life
After watching this video I now understand what people mean when they say something is "stupid good". This is STUPID GOOD. You've literally blown my mind with this.
Did you show it to them? I'm curious as to what they thought.
LOVED IT. grateful to have something that they can show family and friends.
Loved this man there has been so many times where I thought I don’t have enough
Filming yourself in the shoes was a fantastic idea
Wow.. just wow. The turnaround and the ingenuity is amazing. Love the work!
Hey Josh, awesome job man. I can't believe what a great result you got out of all that junk footage! Definitely going to use some of these tips next time something goes wrong with a shoot!
Holy crap this is good! The way you cut that together at the end was absolutely amazing. Also, I think this is the first good explanation I've seen of how to actually use stock footage.
Hii Bro
can you please do a video on premiere pro cinematic tutuorial.
I really like the way you did those things . I think it will be helpful for us (your subscribers) to learn from you . Thnkyou
Hmmmmm. That sounds like a dope idea actually. A premier pro crash course.
MAKE. ART. NOW. Yeah bro.please inform me bro when you do a video on it. Am happier to hear from you bro... ❤️
Subbed - the solutions were unexpected and effective. It expanded my mind on creative problem-solving techniques 👍
The video you've made for your friends was very nice and sweet
Thanks Nadine!
After discovering make art now channel,
I am watching more than 30 videos a day.
You don't typically get to see two butterflies mating in a garden lol
I felt special.
Excellent - well done
Thanks Mark!
This was so dope!!!
I cannot thank you enough for this masterpiece!! My recent wedding video was improved drastically with the multiple narrative concept/your groundbreaking creativity. Your final project has me on the verge of tears every time I rewatch! Consider me subscribed and engaged! #nosmallcreator
Awesome!!! Congrats dude. Huge win!

Thanks John!
This goes to show that it's all about imagination and creativity. 😊
This is UNREAL!!! I'm actually in awe of how creative and resourceful you are, love the fact that you actually went out and did a reshoot (groom's shoe scene is my favourite) Your friends are lucky they know someone talented as you to save the day!!!

Thanks VO BRO!
Agreed!
Same.
best video highlighting Resourcefulness as a filmmaker. damn. putting to shame all the times that we've could've help salvage a video if exercised a little resourcefulness.
Bahahah!!!! It took me a minute to figure out the story though, so keep that in mind. I spent time thinking about how to fix it.
Wow 😮 your friends must of said you are my hero ! U definitely fixed what was no good footage into something amazing ! Excellent Job 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🎥
Thanks dude!
2 words: Color Grading
2 more words: DaVinci Resolve
Two words.....that's all. That was them. Crap, now that's 10....now 11.....crap need to count the number I'm talking about. Okay. So now it's 27. Right?
I'm just trying to help you get where you can go. I once had a guy who really didn't actually like me that much SHOVE a hard drive FULL of DaVinci Resolve tutorials and install files into my chest. Now I'm a professional level colorist and all of my shots look that much more beautiful and everything I do for my studio is that much more in-house. DaVinci. Resolve.
Surprisingly, a lot of things Manny. Colour wise, that is.
I dig it man. Very creative.
Thanks Jimmy!
Absolute sorcery here! Love it!
no...just........VISION. RESOURCES. TIME. ....maybe a lot of time. lol. Thanks for watching!!!!
Lol, wait... did he edit footage of two butterflies banging into their wedding video?
Love this! I’m crying right now😭
WOW! In Poland we have idiom "Rzeźbić w gównie" (literally: sculpt in shit). We use it in this kind of situation :D I'm impressed :D
BAHAHAHAHAH. LOVE THIS.
In Russia we say “making a candy out of the shit” 😄
Brilliant
Thanks for watching!
Dude this was awesome. I just feel that using any type of foul language may shy people away from your otherwise very instructive and well done video.
Yeah I can see that. This channel may nto be for everyone. Adult swim.
I did not hear any foul language... but I swear like an old sailor so I rarely notice ha ha 😀🍹🇵🇭
MAKE. ART. NOW. I really learned a lot from the video and enjoyed how well you explained the story aspect about making a video. Very inspiring!
I wish you the best and hope to see you upload more instructional videos like this.
Well, all the people I really admire are swearing as hell, and I actually love that. :D
SO SO SO HELPFUL! I'm working on a friend's wedding video from a year ago when I knew nothing about film and my footage is not that great. Haha. Thanks!
Good luck!!! Find a different way to tell the story and you'll be fine!
absolutely fucking awesome bro... this is what i call a rescue!!!! freaking awesome bro!!!! Subscribed. I hope your friends liked it ... truly a pro solution to an absolute loss...
Ha! Thanks dude!!!
This youtuber and his filmmaking energy are insane.
That's really clever ! Hah. Nice.
2 annoying observations about being in this industry too tho. 1. Alot of videos are intentionally like that! Ie lots of un emotional b-roll. Flowers etc when theres a TON of awesome stuff happening on the day of a wedding.
2. When u say 'no drone' like that...sigh...like u MUST have a drone to make a good wedding video. Sigh again. It's the industry ! Like I said, theres a TON of awesome stuff you'd be missing out on if you started droning around. (I do have a drone but only use when ample time). The whole idea that u have faff about with tons of b roll for a wedding to me defeats the whole point of a wedding. (Besides the necessary b roll...to cut away from unlucky shots etc )
u saved ur friends wedding video as i'm concerned! a quick one, what are ur slog2 and slog3 picture profile settings?
Wow! This is great advice and you did such an amazing job making the footage look so cinematic! Amazing job! Thanks for this video!
Thanks Yo!
Amazing stuff dude. Like how you did it. Got the same in lacking b-rolls but never had the issue with pixelated noise. That was a nightmare. Finish product is awesome.
Thanks Yo!
This is great I’ve subscribed. I want to start making higher quality family videos but haven’t found a RUclips that really does this for family vid. If anyone know let me know where

Omg.. I got the chills... Great and beautiful work ! They must be SO happy with the result
They LOVED it. They hate me gushing about how many views the video has. I think they are sick of me talking about it already!
That was amazing. I'm an architecture student who discovered her love for video editing a little too late to make a career change but I still carry my camera around any time i can, I appreciate the story telling class as well as the editing tips. I'm subscribing right now
Omg I have goosebumps. You are a genius Sir. Can I ask where you go the transition sound effects? They seem super useful!
thans bro! not sure where...hollywood SFX i think? ive collected a ton over the years.
