I love that Chris mentioned the disparity between feeling lonely, and actually being alone. Depression is almost always a liar living in our head, throwing shade over everything and making you feel things that have little to do with the reality of your situation. But it sure FEELS real in the moment.
You can tell how much therapy, time and grace Chris has given himself during this journey towards wellness, and I couldn’t be happier to see how much progress this kind stranger has made so far. Can’t wait to see more!

This series gets me every time... Just a fantastic story told through the lens of sharing food. Now remotely, which we have all had to get used to in other ways as well. Sharing recipes and cooking them, especially while on the phone or discussing the process with a loved one can definitely be comforting. What a great addition to the BCU. And Chris? YOU CAN DO IT! Look at all the amazing comments here with people sharing their stories and words of encouragement. They did it too, sometimes, and sometimes, you are the encouragement we need! You are so blessed to have a friend like Brad, but even more blessed to have the gumption to get as far as you have.

As someone who has been heavy my whole life (hypothyroid from childhood onwards meant gaining was easy, but losing weight was nearly impossible with my hip and spine problems added to it) I have recently come to the realization that, though my family has always been big on Comfort Food and Comfort Eating, I no longer find it to be so. A lot of my eating is through years of habit I'm not entirely sure how to break. Nearly 30 years of eating different foods for different reasons because I never had other coping mechanisms has really upped the struggle in the last two years especially. You never notice how much the little things matter until they all shift all at once.
I really love this series, and I look forward to seeing more. What an incredible journey, told in a relatable way. I don't want to call it "inspiring" (though in some ways it is) but at the very least, it does help me to feel a lot less alone.

Something about these videos bends time. Theyre so short, but they feel so long (in the best way), packed with so much detail. I want them to be even longer. Its incredible how I know so little of Brad and Chris' friendship, yet i feel like i know them so well. Its real, genuine love for one another - a supporter and one being accepting of support. I can imagine theres a bunch of unused footage, with which i would love to see made into a documentary sometime down the road, like when Chris hits a big goal weight. This is one of the best things to come out of the BCU

I can definitely relate to feeling lonely even though you know people care about you. It’s a hard thing to push through, knowing that you don’t feel great but spending time with people you love (and who love you) can bring so much comfort from the loneliness that you originally felt. You gotta force yourself to do something you don’t feel like doing, and it is not super easy to find the motivation for it.

This is the type of content we need more of in the US. Not sure if this will make sense…but I’ve witnessed four road rage “incidents” this past month, more than I’ve seen before the pandemic. People are so angry and hurting, and they seem to be acting out, for what? Attention? To make others hurt as well? I have no clue, it may be a fluke, but it is scary. It’s okay to work through your emotions, and ask for help. This is a precious nugget of humanity.

I've been a subscriber on this channel for years but these videos are becoming a favorite instantly. It's not just the style, the storytelling, the recipes, but hearing men's voices, sharing about health and mental health, is SO important, and powerful male friendships like this are underrepresented. Thanks for using this channel as a platform, I hope this encourages more men to cultivate friendships based on openness and care, and recognizing those traits are healthy for men to have and that there is true strength in vulnerability and honesty. I feel like, while the 96 pounds lost is an amazing feat in itself, it's also all of the other challenges that you have been able to tackle and work on that are just as important and something to really be proud of. You look better and by that I mean you look healthier, your color is healthier, your breathing is better, your expression isn't as stressed looking. You look like a guy who is doing a great job, even with some hard days thrown in. You just work on you, be real and by doing that you will help lots of people. Inspiring.

Wow. Thank you for that beautiful episode and catching us up with the soy boys. I would say more, but I can't through my tears. Tears of joy for their accomplishments and my own deep, deep acknowledgment of what they are both doing. I ❤ you both, thank you!

🥺 There's something so inspiring and reinvigorating about this video. I'm not entirely what it is. Perhaps proof or a reminder that we can all, physically or metaphorically, get out of the places we're stuck in. Move forward. It's reassuring. Thank you.

I was expecting a basics by babish episode, which I always enjoy. But this was so much more and is exactly the kind of content I wish all of my social media was. Huge love to my guy babs for making this a thing and to Chris and Brad for making me feel all warm and tingly inside(which is exactly what comfort food is for).

I'm looking forward to turning my hand to this one. Chris and Brad thank you for sharing this story, the journey, and the lovely recipes. Breaking bread even from a distance is one of the most essential ways we connect with others as it feeds the body as well as the soul. Chris congratulations and excellent job on your progress on all fronts mental, emotional, and physical!

Must say. I feel like Chris but going the wrong way. Being increasingly lonely. Isolated at work because of bad working conditions, seeking comfort in food and a little alcohol. Gaining weight and not seeing an end of the misery. I asked my doctor if there is any help. And the only help i can get is an advice to take the bike to work even though im already walking every day. So back into the cover of darkness because who cares what would happen to me. Only me... While knowingly being judged by society for my lifestiles. Even though no one willing would reach out a hand. If you know someone like me. Call him/her. Say you love him/her. Ask over for a nice dinner of broccoli casserole.

I really like how the food was integrated into this episode with clear instructions of what's being used. This is a very nice balance of story and cooking.
