    Points of clarity
Kadaj and his gang were parts of Sephiroth. How they were created is known in lore, so it's not a big deal if you don't know. But the point is they basically want to sacrifice themselves to bring Sephiroth back. This was their mission. But they needed Jenova to do it.
__ Cloud's emotion state didn't really heal much after the original. His mind was finally his own, but the sorrow of not saving Aerith leads to him feeling like Geo Stigma is his punishment. Cloud blames himself because he wasn't 100%. He's depressed because he feels responsible for the ppl who died, including Aerith.
__ Cloud and Tifa are together, the problem is that in this movie is just two years since Aerith died so Cloud hasn't embraced a life with Tifa because he's so focused on what he lost. Even Tifa calls him out in this movie, reminding him that he can't change the past and he can't predict the future, but that he can't just give up. He needs to fight
I think Tifa was giving him the ultimatum, basically saying ‘You can embrace a future here with me and fight for it, or you can keep living in the past and lose everything?’
And what does he do? He goes to save Marlene. He has some doubts but he really tries to fight for the future. And in a sense he gets his strength back. When he arrives to fight the summon he says to Tifa, “I'm lighter, probably from all that Dilly-dallying…” His way of repeating to Tifa what she said to him and confirming that he'll fight for her.
At the end, when he sees Aerith and says “I know, I'm not alone. Not anymore…” that's him fully accepting a future with Tifa and being grateful that he ever knew Aerith.
And just an opinion, i don't think it was meant to be funny. Its an action drama, not action comedy. But you're totally entitled to having a preference
Sorry for the long winded comment, overall a fun reaction. You should do more movie and trailer reactions

Stefan said it and it was cut out I think, a screenwriter's mantra:
"If there is no humor, the audience will create it."
It is kind to add clarity to these points, but I think for my own clarity, I am not confused. I don't have compassion for Cloud's plight. The fact it exists is not at question.
Everything has humor in it, including and importantly dramas. FF7 Remake and FF7 original do good at incorporating humor.

@@MirandaLemons for sure, I guess that's where we differ :)
I do have compassion for Cloud. Not even because of the game. I just relate as a human being. As a guy, we often lose even when we win, and we often feel like we can't move on because we didn't do enough. With Cloud, he promised to be Aerith's bodyguard and protect her and she died anyway. His mind is clear, but his heart is broken. When you're heartbroken you don't always see a bright future. Also I don't think every film has comedy, maybe in modern times there's more comedy in action films but some 90s and early 2000s movies werent always funny. But we can just disagree. I liked your reaction by the way. It was funny, especially with Stefan's jokes.

      To the humor:
I think if you were to rewatch anything you love, you will find some moments of levity.
That's what the laughing scene is all about in Final Fantasy X. In the darkest moment, we create humor as a way to cope.
And I should add: this movie did do it. Rude and Reno were the comic relief of this film in a classic Japanese slapstick way. It didn't work for me, but that's okay.

    • @MonkeyDjonny3369
      @MonkeyDjonny3369 10 месяцев назад

@@MirandaLemons just meant not all action movies were made to be funny. There's levity, of course. But the point of many films was not to be funny. They're meant to tell a story. You're correct that some movies and games do use humor to add to the story. But some don't really focus on that. But yeah, the Reno Rude humor never landed much with me either, even in the remake.

The romance with Tifa and Cloud is sorta put on hold by the geostigma and his regret in having not been able to save Aerith. Its only been two years. The first year he was moving forward and starting a life with Tifa but when Geostigma started, he began to feel like maybe it was his fault, and his regret for not saving Aerith became harder to deal with. I think you assume OG Cloud became emotionally better after Original 7 since Tifa pretty much helped him break out of his mind cage but that's not the case
Cloud is the definition of a war veteran. His mind got better, but scars of the past can still affect his overall emotional state, especially since your mind is now strong enough to remember everything and register the choices you made. But Tifa saying "Which is it, a memory or us?" is a tender moment since it shows that Tifa wants him to move on with her. Cloud is just afraid to fail again, and lose someone else. Luckily he finally decides to stop moping and fight right after she said that. So at the end when he says he's not alone. That's him saying goodbye to Aerith and choosing a future with Tifa. The romance isnt complete until the end when he finally decides to let go of his regret and move forward 👌

Any man would be lucky to have a woman like Tifa who loves you enough to stick around even when you're not 100 percent. Today people will call Cloud's behavior trauma dumping, but I think the idea was to show that Tifa is a strong woman and she cares enough about Cloud not to give up on him. She truly is his best friend.

Something I wanted to say. There is a fan theory revolving around this moment 25:10
The theory is that the now revived Sephiroth went back to the lifestream and used it to go back in time and affect OG events. Which is what is happening in Remake.
So when Sephiroth says "I will never be a memory." Thats his declaration that he will find a way back. Some fans believe that Sephiroth in remake is actually the Sephiroth from Advent Children 🤯

And you’re right, the whole point of this movie is to be absorbed by the end and then let the audience to discuss and compare their interpretation of the movie to create the overall bigger picture about the theme and symbology each character embodies in the midst of their trauma. That is what the creators were deliberately going for.
“…with Advent Children, the staff wanted viewers to interpret the scenes individually, allowing them to come to different conclusions.”

  • @timalice-2833
    @timalice-2833 9 месяцев назад +1

I know there is a lot that was left in novels, independent anime that came with original release, comments from the creators, etc. I’ll try to explain as much as possible but this may get long.
That opening, which is 500 years after the game and 498 years after the movie, is based on an agreement with Red XIII and Vincent. Since Red has a very long life (in the game they say he is 50 but mentally 16) and Vincent is effectively immortal, they made an agreement to meet every year in the ruins of Midgar because everyone else they know is long gone.
Geostigma was caused from Sephiroth being in the lifestream, he corrupted it. When the lifestream came out of the planet to protect it from meteor at the end of the game, everyone the lifestream touched when it came out had the potential to develop the disease.
The three remnants, Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo, are basically pieces of Sephiroth separated into 3 but don’t realize they are. They each represent parts of his psyche and abilities such as his pride, arrogance, childlike attachment to Jenova, his mental instability, his strength, and speed.
When they all pop up to fight Bahamut, Denzel doesn’t know who Yuffie and Vincent are. It’s a nod to how they were optional characters and don’t appear in the cutscenes of the original.

    • @melody-linkle
      @melody-linkle 8 месяцев назад +3

I think you might be a little bit biased about this. Obviously Aerith moved on. She had to. He died. But that doesn't mean her love for him died. Let's say we acknowledge that she loves Cloud, doesn't somehow lessen her feelings for Zack. You can still love someone even after they die, even if you also find a new love. In the end, regardless of how we feel Aerith is reunited with the first boy she ever loved in the life stream. She gets a happy ending. And Cloud is able to move on with his life.
Lore-wise, Cloud and Tifa do end up living together, though the nature of their relationship isn't confirmed. But If we believe Cloud deserves to be happy, then the best we can hope for is that the original crush he had for Tifa blossoms into a romance, giving Cloud his own happy ending.
If Aerith should be able to move on from Zack when he dies, Cloud should be able to move on from Aerith when she dies.
conclusion, the original end game is Cloud n Tifa.
Note- Rebirth could end up changing this though. We'll see :)

Here's the reason behind the constant memory talk. FF7 is about memory. The lifestream is the collective memories of life on the planet, when you die you rejoin the lifestream until you are reborn.
The Ancients had a deep connection to the planet and to the lifestream. When Aerith, the last living Ancient, died and rejoined the lifestream she didn't dissolve into it like every one else. She retained her memories and her sense of self. So Aerith is conscious even in death.
During the main game Sephiroth was also dead but conscious in the lifestream. He manipulated things to ensure his rebirth, like making Cloud give him the Black Materia. Aerith, aware of this has been exerting her own will and influencing things herself. Like when she has the Lifestream stop meteor, and the water she influenced to get rid of the stigma.
Now Geostigma is...the malevolent will of Jenova from the lifestream. The civilians think that the planet is attacking these individuals, but it's Jenova and Sephiroth's doing from within the lifestream. Jenova is an alien that appeared on the planet and waged war against the Ancients. The Ancients couldn't kill her so they sealed her away. Many years later Shinra found the sealed away Jenova and THOUGHT she was an Ancient. So they tried to create a new race of Ancients with Jenova Cells. That's how Sephiroth, Angeal, Genesis and Zack got their strength. As well as Cloud who is a Sephiroth clone.
It was assumed that Jenova was executing Sephiroth's will, but it was Sephiroth controlling her. His own will was stronger than hers. The times during the game where Cloud would have freak out moments behind the backs of others, like when he first ran into Tifa at the train station, that was Jenova literally rewriting his memory on the fly. That's why Cloud thought he was Zack, Zack said "You're my living legacy." So Jenova said "Okay! Thanks for that info!" And basically transplanted Zack onto Cloud. Tifa had to help Cloud find the real him in the mess that is his psyche.
So Sephiroth dies at the end of the game but he does what he did before, influence the world from the lifestream. He refuses to just be a memory. Sephiroth creates this reunion with Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz, three aspects of Sephiroth. Loz, the punchy one, is his overt masculinity as well as his deep seeded need to be loved by Jenova. Yazoo, the shooty one, is his sensuality and aloofness. Kadaj is his charisma and cruelty. Sephiroth used the three of them to try and find a massive cluster of Jenova Cells. That would bring him back. So they are searching for Jenova's severed head, that's what was in the box that Rufus had in his lap the entire time. Kadaj used Cloud to cut open the box, grabbed the head and fused with it....thus Sephiroth returns.
Cloud is hounded by the memories of the people he didn't save, Aerith and Zack. He feels guilty because he was dead weight to Zack and he feels that caused his death. And Sephiroth almost got Cloud to kill Aerith...he feels massively guilty and wants to be forgiven. The reason he had the buster sword stabbed in the ground the was because that was him creating a grave marker for Zack, that's where Zack died.
The memories are preventing Cloud from living, that's what Tifa tells him. Stop worrying so much about the memories of the people we lost when there's people still here around us. It's kind of an allegory for grief. Don't allow grief to completely take over your life so much that you ignore the people around you who still love and care about you.
Sephiroth's last line "I will never be a memory." Means he's not done plotting, that he will be back again....and I think he did exactly that and is back in remake. That's just speculation on my part...but I like the idea.

Cloud comes to finally get pass him failing to protect Arieth , he finally sees he is not alone but has a huge family and friends that love him and will stand with him against terrible odds.
Kadaj is one of the few surviving experiments trying to get mother , unlike Cloud who was able to escape Jenovas grasp on his mind , Kadaj is hopelessly given in to her. Which leads to his demise but is taken back to the lifestream and given peace.
Yes Cloud is well, Cloud . He little charismatic personality but that’s the point. He is still sad about his failure and is too proud to let anyone help him this time. Kadaj and his brothers appearance force Cloud to confront his misgivings and put those most important to him first.

Denzel is an orphan tifa and cloud adopted. anything else is irrelevant. Aerith died and Cloud feels responsible. Unfortunately, Cloud is so absorbed by his regret that he doesnt feel like he deserves to be happy. I always liked the scene when Tifa calls him out, because you can see how much she cares for him and wants him. A memory or us? - Tifa
People don't always catch that, but I feel Tifa is at her limit at this point. She has waited for him to realize what truly matters. Like any loving woman can stand by a man while he grieves, but its been two years and Tifa can't wait forever.
This is one of the reasons why Cloud annoys me. I wouldn't say he reverts. I think he never really accepted a happy ending after OG7. He drowns too much in his own self-pity and regret for letting Aerith die. I like that he finally lets go of that at the end though.

    You're saying TEA-DUS' name wrong. Tide-US.
Second, none of the final fantasy universes are connected, except for possibly 14, and that's only because 14's writers are good enough to incorporate the other worlds seamlessly with their own story, and in their own unique way, so even then they're not *really* 'connected' with the original, and it's just taking the originals world and writing it to match with their own.
Tifa 'landing' like she does against the wall:
Do remember that Tifa and the others were all involved in the fights leading up to AND the final fight against JENOVA and even Sephiroth himself, to save the world from METEOR. Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions about Cloud in this movie by people.
First he develops a hero complex as a child because he coudn't save Tifa, he feels guilty, he's not good enough, he wants to be strong and special, that's where his thought patterns begin. Then he meets Zack, the first friend he made on his own after leaving Nibelheim, someone he looks up to just like Sephiroth. Then he loses his mother, his hometown, Tifa is dead, his biggest idol is a monster, he thinks he failed again. After that, his best friend dies protecting him, everything is lost, and he thinks he's weak, he failed again. After finding out that Tifa is alive, he is still ashamed of his weakness, and creates a new persona, the cold and cool hero like Sephiroth, and copying Zack's stories, is his ideal self that he always wanted to be, but his true self is disappearing. But fate is funny, the "ideal" version of Cloud almost kills Aerith, the second friend he made alone, and the murder takes place in front of him without being able to do anything, he failed again.
After regaining his true self, resolving his issues with Tifa and saving the planet, he is said to have obtained a happiness and peaceful life that he has never experienced before, and this makes him anxious, even though he has accepted himself, not it means he had to deal with the most recent events. Then he starts to blame himself for Aerith's death, and thinks that he has failed as Zack's living legacy, he is ruining their legacy. It is said by the developers that the happier he feels, the more lonely he becomes. He doesn't deserve happiness, he can't protect those he cares about, he's a failure, why would he be worthy of happiness? This depression and thought patterns affected his relationship with Tifa. And so came Denzel, a child with whom he could atone for his sins, he will do anything to find the cure for Geostigma, the incurable and deadly disease, and Tifa agrees, as she feels guilty for the fall of Sector 7, so things they start to improve (I recommend reading the novel that delves into this, it's called "On the Way to a Smile"). But it is said that the disease strikes at the most emotionally vulnerable moment, especially in children (oh, Biggs just said that he has a lot in common with children, impactful). Cloud contracts the deadly disease, how could he save Denzel if he can't save himself? He failed again, not wanting his family to see him die, he runs away, accepting that death is his greatest punishment.
Suffering from depression as a result of severe post-war PTSD and a lifelong feeling of inadequacy combined with a fear of failure and the belief that many of your loved ones died because you failed and were inadequate? That’s the context to view Cloud when watching Advent Children. I understand why people don't get Cloud, Cloud suffers from obvious mental health issues, and mental health issues simply are not something that the general public understands, even today. Not only that, but Cloud went through the most insane series of traumatic events anyone could ever imagine and even had an alien parasite in him. Damn... The best character for sure.
"The place where he awakens -
    That is Cloud’s Promised Land
As he sleeps, Cloud hears two voices. The voices of two people very dear to him, who are no longer with him. Playfully and kindly, they give him a message: he doesn’t belong here yet.
When he awakes, there was his friends. There were the children, freed from their fatal illness. Tifa and Marlene, and Denzel asking for Cloud to heal his Geostigma - his family were waiting. Engulfed in celebration, he realises where he is meant to live. He realises that he was able to forgive himself.
And when he turns around - “she” is starting to leave. Together with the friend who had given Cloud his life. Cloud no longer has to suffer in loneliness … And so they too go back to where they belong.
Back to the current of life flowing around the planet"
~ 10th anniversary ultimania - pg. 131 Story Playback (133 in revised version)

Okay, this whole thing about Cloud making friends with Aerith and Zack by his own made me think about a Deja Vu.
When he leaves, he’s a loner and Tifa’s prickly, standoffish neighbor, Tifa is his only friend, she’s the local darling with a circle of three friends he loosely associates with but isn’t really a part of, and their friendship is a bit strained due to the fact that Tifa’s father hates his guts, thinks he’s bad news, and doesn’t want him around.
When they properly reconnect by the end of Chapter 3, he’s a loner and Tifa’s prickly, standoffish neighbor, Tifa is his only friend, she’s the local darling who’s part of an organization with her three friends that he works for but isn’t really a part of, and their friendship is a bit strained due to the fact that Barret, the organization’s leader, hates his guts, thinks his bad news, and doesn’t want him around.
Tifa’s back to being the local guide.
It’s a resonance that’s on-the-nose enough to feel deliberate and is reinforced by Cloud’s flashbacks to Tifa and her Nibelheim friends in both Reactor 1 and Sector 5, the incredibly not-subtle name of Stargazer Heights, the returning Promise flashback itself, and the fact that in the Japanese script he refers to the AVALANCHE crew as ‘Tifa-tachi,’ or ‘Tifa’s group’ in a direct translation. Which continues to draw those parallels to NIbelheim, as that’s also, basically, the way he refers to the other Nibelheim kids in the Lifestream Sequence during the OG.
But this phantom after-image of his hometown doesn’t last for long, and he gets a fresh start to move forward from those dynamics. With Tifa’s help, his personality warms over the course of the game and goes from Tifa’s one asshole friend to being respected in-town and having his worth appreciated over the course of Chapter 3, he connects with and bonds with Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie, starting to make real connections with Tifa’s friends and is slowly folded into their group in Chapter 4, and he and Barret eventually get over their antagonism and come to respect each other and become friends by Chapter 7.
When he runs into Aerith in Chapter 8, Cloud even ends up making a friend on his own (just like Zack, after leaving Nibelheim). Its only because their bad coping mechanisms cancel each other out, but its progress.
So, both Cloud and Aerith are deeply lonely people whose abandonment issues hang around their necks like albatross, but they have polar opposite strategies for dealing with that.
For Cloud, he acts prickly, standoffish, and is generally a dismissive asshole so he never gets close enough to people that it hurts when they leave, Tifa being the obvious exception. He’s stuck thinking he’s not good enough to be friends with people, and that they’ll leave him when they figure that out. So he consciously or subconsciously pushes all of them away until he proves himself right and doesn’t have to grapple with that disappointment.
Aerith on the other hand, copes with her loneliness by finding friend-targets and aggressively including herself in their business, to the point of steam-rolling them and dismissing their opinions. Cloud sticks around in Sector 8 to help her because, on the inside, he’s still a marshmallow who likes to help people, but his strategy to get her to leave on her own fails to function as it usually does.
The unstoppable force meats the immovable object. Cloud is a dog being chased by a car and he has no frame of reference or script to deal with it.
Cloud’s issues remain obvious throughout the game, but Aerith’s are most on display in Wall Market during Chapter 9. In both the OG and REMAKE, Aerith is the one who takes the lead and has Cloud trailing behind her to follow her infiltration plan and it’s Aerith who gets her and Cloud as the other two girls at Corneo’s audition to fill the holes in Tifa’s plan. She’s pushy, alarmingly friendly from the word GO, and takes charge in situations she has no stake in because, if everyone is following her, she can’t be the one left behind this time. Anxieties that come to the fore in Chapter 11 when she’s separated from Cloud and Tifa in the Train Graveyard. Alone and cornered by ghosts, those childhood feelings of abandonment from the loss of her mother and loneliness from her time in the Shin-Ra building, Aerith emotionally flashes back to being a small girl abandoned on the playground and left alone by the kids she wanted to be friends with.
It’s an all-consuming emotional state that is only diffused when Cloud and Tifa find her again, breaking her out of her own head and setting her at ease by coming back for her.
Its a shame that Cloud doesn’t get the same comfort for his latent issues. The phantom Nibelheim he had in Sector 7 suffers the same fate as the real deal did, and that old wound gets torn open again just as it started to heal.
He failed Tifa again. He couldn’t protect his home again. His entire life burns down around him and he couldn’t do anything about it again.
Our boy had a real chance at healing from, and reconciling with, his crappy childhood while living in Sector 7. I’m sad he didn’t get it.
And ironically, he lost these two friends he made alone.

@@VictorFinalFlann Haha, honestly, i can try, but it's good to get into the details for a better understanding.
Cloud, the protagonist of the movie, has a hero complex stemming from childhood guilt and a desire to be strong.
Traumatic events, including the loss of loved ones and battles with his perceived failures, lead to a struggle with his identity.
His uncouncious attempt to embody an idealized version of himself results in strained relationships and self-blame.
Battling post-war PTSD and a deep sense of inadequacy, Cloud's journey ultimately involves accepting himself, overcoming depression, and finding peace with his past.
The resolution sees him awakening to a promised land, surrounded by friends and family, symbolizing his forgiveness and newfound understanding of where he belongs.

Oh yeah. I wanted to add about the era -- I watched Advent Children right when it came out in 2005 and felt about the same then as today, but I had a friend who was in love with it. It appealed to a certain teen demographic, and while I was a teen, it wasn't for me.
I'd love to watch the Persona 3 movies next. Definitely same era. Similar tone.

I only watch this movie this year two months ago actually I think maybe its just not as good because it is old movie We need a new version You dont think Cloud and Tifa had romance? I saw the conversation in the bedroom like a sweet talk. She like wants him to move on. Idk. He does get too depresso about Aerith But I believe he stay with Tifa and they will be happy in future Maybe they marry

@@MirandaLemons I think you have to bring emotional connection of the original and connect it to the feeling between them in Advent Children. Or else it look like there's no emotional connection in movie. Like you don't see romance in the room scene because you don't apply the feelings. But if you apply the feelings you know they have, then you see it as Tifa telling the man she love that he needs to stop living the past and appreciate what he have. And then you see Cloud change his mood and fight for her and Marlene and the planet. Because her love motivate him to stop dilly-dally 😅
But also I think maybe I just see it like that. So maybe I'm wrong too haha

He is an orphan from sector 7. His parents died when the the Turks dropped the plate but he wasn’t there. He wandered around the ruins, homeless when he came across Cloud’s bike outside the church. He tried to call home using Cloud’s phone that he left on his bike but, of course, there was no answer. He saw that there was one number that kept calling cloud (Tifa) and called back asking for help. He passed out and Cloud found him. Then brought him back to Tifa’s bar in the city of Edge. They then took him in.

How do you feel about Aerith and Zack being reunited in the Lifestream? I actually watched this a couple years ago again, after such a long time. I like that Cloud was able to forgive himself and move on and Aerith showing him that everything is fine because she's happy and with Zack, to me I always thought that last vision was Aerith giving Cloud the okay to be happy too 💔 Cloud needed to feel like It was okay to move on and find happiness. You probably won't play Dirge anytime soon so I can tell you that Cloud and Tifa do live together and are happy. Its not outwardly said, but I think of it like confirmation 😍
