The 5 specials you truly need to watch are: The Polar, Vietnam, Botswana, USA and Bolivia Special. These are Top Gewr at it's finest (particularly the first 3)
Also, if you can get the commentary on any of them it’s well worth it, you prob need to watch without first (Bolivia is best if you ask me as you have wilman, Richard Porter and James may)
The best episodes is where they do challenges by modifying vehicles and testing them like turning cars into boats or when they race eachother in chosen pacific cars. Arguable the best episode was when they raced eachother from London to Edinburgh by different modes of transport; James may in a jaguar, Richard on a 1950’s Vincent motorcycle and Clarkson aboard the iconic stream train Tornado, also features in infamous Stig “reveal” moment
Most people talk about the Vietnam special as being best, in my opinion the best was the Botswana special, absolutely great. The non-special episodes are great too, Season 9 is probably the very best, outside that the Amphibious Cars challenges are legendary, the British Leyland episode is truly beautiful and the Lorries challenge was hilarious.
The Subaru Impreza in the hands of Mr. Colin McRae absolutely owned rallying back in the day. The Dirt series of rallying videogames used to be called Colin McRae Rally Championship prior to Colin's tragic death in a helicopter crash. The Impreza also shows up quite prominently in the film Baby Driver (directed by Edgar Wright, who cut his directorial teeth on Spaced!)
I think the Vietnam one is the best. I think the Vietnamese tourist board should pay Top Gear a royalty, as that programme probably did more to promote Vietnam to the country than any other. Maybe that's why the BBC is blocked in the country - as a kind of revenge for replacing these three presenters
Yay, it’s finally time for TG does Africa! Can’t wait to get home and watch this. It’s one of my favourite, if not my favourite, TG special they ever did. It’s a great ep.
If I may put forth another related suggestion. A great show to react to could be 'James May's Toy Stories', it's available to watch for free on Tubi and is really fun with him doing massive projects with classic toys. The Lego episode is the most famous, where he makes a full sized house out of Lego, but all the episodes are great, my favourite is the Plasticine Garden.
I'd 1000% reccomends the vietnam special, they get motorbikes instead and ride across vietnam. What makes it especially great is how much hammon and may love, yet clarkson absolutely hates, motorbikes.
Part 1 01:00 In essence Top Gear used to be a car review programme but ever since 2002 it's predominately been a live action Wacky Races. Part 2 16:01 Top Gear's code: Anyone who falls behind is left behind. 20:04 The Zulu theme. 20:57 Yep. Part 4 07:51 Rock on! 26:30 So, you do have some familiarity with the Three Stooges.
Yeah - it used to be a kind of show for car enthusiasts - the kind of people who like to stare lovingly at polished engines at classic car shows. I remember one of Jeremy Clarkson's early pieces on the old show, where he said something like "...apparently some viewers don't like it that I don't show the cars' engines like the other presenters"...lifts the bonnet, holds it for one second, then drops it "...yep, that was the engine"
It might be that they didn’t have the rights to it for international broadcast. I have DVD’s which have commentary with Andy wilman and he talks about this a lot, for example on the India special they had to use different songs for the international stuff which meant that the joke didn’t work as well. I think that was because of Beatles songs
@@Live-by2vk Ah, so essentially a similar problem to what Only fools and Horses suffered on TV v DVD releases. Always the bloody music industry and their vice like copyright power!
@@mentaldavethefirst Yeah, I watched the Vietnam special recently in America and they took out the 'Born in the USA' that played whenever the America Bike was shown and replaced it with a presumably copyright free version of the Star Spangled Banner.
Well, this was an event to watch hahaha. saw part 1 left hanging for the next 3 for a day or 2 haha did it get taken down and need re-uploading? seems up for good now.
The show at the time was the biggest scripted show in the world. I think it was only second to the world cup for world TV viewing numbers. That's what they are most famous for.

Not forgetting Burma and Patagonia
I think they did about 3 US specials
My opinion is that Vietnam is best, then Botswana and then Burma
I think of those, Bolivia is easily the best.

"Chris Evans no not that one" - I appreciated the inadvertent Richard Herring joke.

The British Leyland episode is the one I've watched the most. It would be my recommendation for a first episode.
The Subaru Impreza in the hands of Mr. Colin McRae absolutely owned rallying back in the day. The Dirt series of rallying videogames used to be called Colin McRae Rally Championship prior to Colin's tragic death in a helicopter crash.

I've been waiting for this for a while! Yay!
Season 3 of The Grand Tour had sooo many fantastic specials (USA Vacation, Scotland trip was better than their latest Scotland special, Mongolia etc)
You should certainly react to the Vietnam, Bolivia and Burma specials!! Think you'll love them Noah!!
This is just The Only Way is Essex with cars, higher production values and better acting!
I think the Vietnam one is the best. I think the Vietnamese tourist board should pay Top Gear a royalty, as that programme probably did more to promote Vietnam to the country than any other. Maybe that's why the BBC is blocked in the country - as a kind of revenge for replacing these three presenters
Please continue these specials, this one is good but there are some truly great adventures, Vietnam, Botswana, Bolivia etc.

Vietnam special next :)
Top gear specials are elite TV
Thank you for reacting to it!!!
I highly suggest you watch the first American special from 2007, it’s brilliant, as are pretty much most of the specials.
Excellent episode and reaction. You should also check out the Burma Special if you haven’t already.
The last remaining bastion of Lord Bubble

Ah, the Nile one, I hoped it was the Botswana one, but this is a great one too!
Have you ever seen the top gear polar special?
I'd 1000% reccomends the vietnam special, they get motorbikes instead and ride across vietnam. What makes it especially great is how much hammon and may love, yet clarkson absolutely hates, motorbikes.
What a way to redeem yourself from yesterday!! 😂
The Vietnam one is great, hope you watch a few more
All of the Top Gear specials are great. If you do another one, Vietnam is my personal favourite. I'd highly recommend that one
A whole special 🙊 that’s fantastic

I really don't recall the music when they building the raft as part of the original broadcast. Was this re-edited for a DVD or something?

There's certainly one where they couldn't use the theme music from The A Team, and they use some other piece, which doesn't make so much sense.

Daily motion has so many adds it was almost unwatchable.. like one every minute.. I don't remember it being like that before
The Indian one and the one in Asia is two must watch specials
The show at the time was the biggest scripted show in the world. I think it was only second to the world cup for world TV viewing numbers.
That's what they are most famous for.
Botswana is even funnier Loved the reaction as always 👍👌
Clarksons farm!!!
Yo u have to do the bad education movie I watched it last night and it’s was hilarious it’s a full movie on RUclips if u type it and scroll down a bit
I was never a fan of Top Gear when it was first televised, but in this new woke PC world of ours, I am suddenly craving them.
The earlier South African special is better.
Four ads in the first six minutes over on DM. Sorry, mate, I’m giving up on it there.
If you clicked the link that uses the embedded media player, then you shouldn't get ads.
@@taffe316 I'll give it a go on the PC - doesn't work from the iOS RUclips app opening in Chrome, unfortunately. Cheers. :)
@@taffe316 Works nicely on the PC browser. So that's pleasing - always fun to see Americans who get our occasionally surreal humour. :-)
