Colonial zone prices are wayyyy higher than any other areas in the city since is a tourist destination. In order to get the real Dominican experience when it comes to food & cheap prices, you must leave that area.
Oh yeah forsure! Made this video this way, as most tourists will find themselves in this general area! ❤️
Santo Domingo is a kind of special place because you can find everything in just one city, Culture , old world and also modern city :) including beaches and rivers.
Great video Chris
I’ve been to the same cafe, and the gentleman who helped you find the battery showed me around parts of Zona Colonial this past February. Everyone was very welcoming. A modest tip does go along way. I didn’t have the 28% tourist tax when I was there four months ago.
Great 👍 video 📹 Chris
Thanks for bringing back good memories of my time in Santo Domingo. I stayed in an all-inclusive resort but also took a city tour there. Popular destination for the Canadians.
There is no tourist tax, that tax is called ITEBIS, and is a sales and services tax paid by everyone in the country for the goods, and services for which it applies (Basically everything). So no, there's no special tax on the tourists. Also; it's an insular nation, meaning on an island, thus many things are imported, and for that reason expensive. Also, 1 US dollar is equivalent to a little over 50 Dominican pesos, unlike Venezuela or Colombia, where one dollar is thousands or a million in local currency. I'd advise you to also visit the actual modern city. The colonial zone is gorgeous, but is a bubble, only some 2 square kilometers in a city which is the largest in the Caribean Islands, and Central America, with a population of over 3 million. So truth be told, just visiting the colonial city is in no way knowing the country or even the city.

Saludos Chris!! Des Texas ,, great video 👍👍👍
Saludos bro!!! 🙏🏻💪🏻
New here! Thanks for the video! Hopefully you had a cold Presidente! 🍺
Thank you so much! I definitely did!!! Had a few 🤩
The Grand has changed and upgraded in the last few years. It used to be called Paco's for many years with a more casual setting and menu
The colonial zone is the touristy area of Santo Domingo and of course you are going to find higher prices. I don't think is fair to compare the prices here to everywhere in the country. Regular Dominicans and tourist s don't pay even close to those prices in other areas of the country..
Thanks a lot bro, definitely aware of that! Just used it as the primary area of the video since that is where 95% of tourists that visit Santo Domingo spend their time! 🙃
Nice, thanks 🥰
Hola¡¡¡ se ve riiiicoooo el mangu, el queso frito es sabroso,Cuidate, un abrazoooo¡¡¡
Estaba tan delicioso! Gracias por el apoyo siempre Norma!

I am very interested in this area so thank you Chris for doing the video. The only thing that seemed like a letdown was the prices there were basically the prices here but inflation and covid probably all have affected prices of goods but ty again
Thanks a lot Justin! Very beautiful country with a lot to offer forsure! I need to go back and visit for a longer time!
Good place for retirement
That breakfast is everything
Uuuffff you're not lying! 🙏🏻❤️
I travelled to Punta Cana from the UK & absolutely loved it. I was however advised that it is not safe to go off the resort. However, watching your videos it looks great as I feel I didn’t get to experience the real DR life & I’ll have to return back!! Just need to brush up on my Spanish skills too!!!
Pretty safe just have common sense and don’t be out late at night
They always say is not safe! But once you go out the first time you everything you've been missing! Is really safe
your videos are cool bro but you gotta be more careful lol dont be oblivious DR is wild you were in a safer area
Saludos bho desde Venezuela 🇻🇪 siempre. 👏👏👏
Saludos bro!!!
I am going to Santo Domingo is it best to take a Uber ? And where would I go to exhange money any tips would help thanks
Yes Uber is great and I always just withdraw cash at the atm when I arrive in a country
How to rent a 1 bed room apartment there? Maybe relocating would sounds nice
🤩🤩🤩 Santo Domingo...that's where Pedro, Chantel's husband comes from.
Honestly I live in CT USA & that is pretty cheap compared to how much things are out here right now. Thank you 🙏
Yes forsure! The states are ridiculously expensive!
Buen video.
Muchas gracias! Eres de la República Dominicana?
@11:24 you just said it oh man...good! Hence the name Mangú 😉
We can't do better and stop saying that Cristobal Colon discovered America. We can say that He was the first European to visit and settled in America, In this case the Bahamas and then settled in Dominican republic. He didn't discovered anything. Can I be the first Dominican to visit India and then, Say that I discovered India??
Thanks so much Eddie! I agree!
Europeans had no knowledge about this continent, you discover something when you don't know anything about it, it was not on maps or anything, after the Europeans came the map was modified and new roads were built and everything and the whole world knew about this continent, it was a mutual discovery, the natives discovered white people and white people discovered natives.
Can you give me an estimate of how much taxi driver would charge from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata plz n thx
To be honest I don't know, but expensive lol every taxi ride there was expensive
That’s Plaza España! And Plaza Colon! Intue capital ❤️ I was there about 2 weeks ago! It’s beautiful at night too! In Punta Cana you can haggle a bit and pay a 15% tax sometimes
Wow super crazy! Thanks for that tip! I hope you enjoyed it! Where are you from?
@@Travelwithchris haha that little 3% can be used for a nice cold Presidente! I’m from Lima, Peru. It’s my second time in DR, been here for a month and flying back to Peru next week
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your support Eddie! Means a lot to me!
@@Travelwithchris of course bro, great work and wish you the best.
Crazy about the 18% tourist tax..didn’t really think that was a thing there. How do they distinguish who gets taxed that if you happen to fit in
I don't think they have a proper system, i think it just goes by regions!
Its not a tourist tax, its called ITBIS and its a tax they charge for goods and services and everybody pays it, dominicans and tourists. Its not specific to tourists.
Que maravilloso! Quiero aprender Español Dominicano, adonde puedo ir?
klk, necesita pa buscar un profe
There's no such thing as a tourist tax. That 18% is ITBIS and its a tax for goods and services and everybody has to pay it every time they consume or buy a good or service, including dominicans and non tourists. It has always existed.
Thank you for clarifying that!
Estoy activo en los 2 canales
Loved this collaboration! To be clear, the monument was finished in 1992 in time for the 500th anniversary of Columbus' discovery. My brain fog was serious here!
So did I man! Thanks so much for helping me out!

@@marlak4203 cant believe I didn't catch it, but hey, that's stage fright for ya :)

Man that 28% tax kills it for me, DR may be on the pass list for me at least for now. 😂

Very over priced! Thanks so much!
And that tax has now made my decision 😂😂 to Antioquia I go
He said the faro was finally finished un 1492...He meant 1992.
Yes he corrected that her in the comment section! Thanks for watching! ❤️
@@Travelwithchris Yes of course! Sorry for the mistake :)
I came looking for this, bc I remember when they finished I was 12yrs old so I was confused like 1492 what🤪
@@m.aquino1317 🤣
This place was expected to be this Eiffel Tower like thing for the D.R. Has potential but is underused. Shame..
YOU JUST GENERALIZE, YOU DON'T GIVE THE VISITORS ANY ADVICE...
