The biggest semi-recent balance change to Veno was changing gale and sting to be dispellable and making sting no longer ignore spell immunity. This changed him from being arguably the best hero in dota during TI7 to being very very situational thereafter.
Ahhh the frustration of being slowed. TBH, I would rather be stunned than be slowed. If you're stunned, you understand that you cannot move and therefore have to wait it out. Whereas if you're slowed, you still have that HOPE that you can escape since you can still fight back only for you to be consumed by the inevitable death that is closing in. You can struggle all you want but in the end, you'll still be dead.
I remember when i had over an hour game using venomancer although we lost we still hold that long enough to make the game fun.... those 3x health and attack damage plague wards combine with a over stacked flesh heap pudge make our opponents struggle
If I recall correctly, the reason he was out for some versions in Dota 1 was that there was a bug with the Refresher, that made it spawn wisps in the second use of his ult, giving him the ability to build and train units.
You'll probably talk about Teemo again during Templar Assassin too, not just Viper, seeing as he's fundamentally a loose port of her. Short ranged but range, cloaks while standing still, lays traps, gets a damage boost when breaking stealth (attack speed instead of armor lowering but still) Also while Blinding Dart is functionally quite different from Refraction they're both abilities that allow you to do more damage and avoid several instances of damage rolled into one so they serve a similar purpose in the kit.
FINALLY!!! THANK YOU DENNIS FOR FINALLY COVERING MY FAVORITE HERO!!! YES I KNOW THIS IS IN ALL CAPS, I DONT CARE I WANT TO TRY SCREAMING THIS OUT FROM WHERE I AM TO WHERE YOU ARE!!! THANK YOU
My favorite now is Veno. I'm almost near 300 games using him. It's such a delight playing with him as he can be adjustable enough to play any roles during a game.
I believe poison sting damage are only useful to disrupt regeneration. chip damage last longer on the hero since natural regen are countered/partially countered by the sting damage causing them to have to use tango more often and the tick damage prevent the use of salve without having to completely backing up from the lane for significant amount of time. Though later the slow are mostly what you used it for.
Dennis must have been high out of his mind in my game because all he did was buy all the observer wards and hoard them in his inventory while feeding the enemy team his plague wards. Great job Dennis!
Idk if Cassiopeia from League of Legends will be similar to venomancer. She does not have the ward, apply poison on her basic attack or ultimate. She does apply poison on her Q & W abilities. Her E ability makes her the DPS & her W ability slows & prevents enemy from using mobility abilities. She has the snake like appearance, too.
I haven't played Dota in 2 years now and I've actually become a league player (sadly still bronze ;_;) yet I always find myself watching these videos as soon as they come out Love the videos man keep them going
Finally ! Mah boi ! :D *picks veno* "Imma gonna PLAGUE their jungle ! " Oh, and here's a tip: You can hide plague wards in the trees for maximum nuisance, they don't need line of sight :3
Your drawings are getting so much better. Not that that's why I watch the videos but its a nice touch and cool so see the improvement from an earlier vid.
I mean I think that’s less on Veno and more on the base mechanics of if an ally hero is below a certain percentage and has a debuff that has the potential to kill them then they can be denied.
Maybe poison nova is a bacterial infection that produces poison and the bacteria can't survive in a dead host so it makes sure that the victim does not die from it while the other spells are actual poison that will kill regardless.
Another fun fact to pull from League of Legends is that the champion Singed has a similar playstyle to the Ancient Hydra iteration of Venomancer, with a poison cloud ability that lets him damage anyone chasing after him, while being tanky and elusive with his skills to keep baiting them to follow.
Venomancer in dota 1 is the monster you don't want to see observing you and lurking at the dark, dota 2 venomancer is the one that chases you until it gets you
I thought maybe I'd do a little drinking game, and take a shot everytime Dennis says the word "Poison," but then I passed out in a green jungle and now I'm an oozing banana snake.
Back when they added the initial round of EXP and later Lvl 10 Gold talents Jungle Veno at the offlane Duo Ancients and Jungle Camp was a gloriously greedy but very very easy way to get a stupid early Midas into a Veil + Aghs at like sub 20 mins and +5 levels on everyone. You would farm/stack the 1 camp and 2 Ancient camps with plague wards + Sting, with Iron Talon helping you get to the crucial level 3 since that is when you got Lvl 2 Plague Wards which could start to properly farm the ancient camp.
Fun note the MSI roster that won to make the poison ivy slither skin had both Fly and NoTail on it. I believe trixxy was their main slither player but I might be misremembering.
Wayyy back when i first started playing Dota Venimancer was 5he go to easy / fun to play slightly overpowered hero. He was also big in the trilaning meta paired with something like CM / Viper it was impossible as a melee to lane vs.
Playing Veno as a carry is one of my longest pocket picks that like 95% of the time are often met with weird looks or outright disagreement and the player on the same lane picking carry instead of a support. The thing with Veno, he sure ain't your regular carry that can 1v2 easily, it's all about the positioning, vision and playing around your poisons/slows. (That Manta mentioned in the video, is super cool fot his build) Having for example Nature's prophet on your lane makes their game a living nightmare, all that can really fuck you up is Snapfire, Slark or anything with blink since you can't abuse the prophet's Q. Still, all of them having some kind of a dash/blink in their kit... poor AM still won't get his BF by 15 minute mark even if he'll try his best. If the enemy team is playing SUPER defensively, getting your hands on Meteor Hammer is one way of spreading your cancerous presence elsewhere and it adds that much needed stun for his kit. Overall, I always loved Veno, love, and always will
If you were Venomancer, what would your Plague Wards look like and what special effect would they have?
Probably like dicks because I've got childish humour.
I am a simple man. I laugh at fart jokes. So I want some mushrooms that look in a certain way and for them to fart on enemies.

Sub-woofers that blast death metal
It's like a regular Plague Ward, but they are holding a gun instead with their tiny arm
That hydra venomancer could be a nice concept for an arcana
well, we had the collector cashe hydra venomancer two years ago or so, but an arcana in a similar style does sound nice

Veno was such a broken hero back in Dota1, during the time when Hood of Defiance didn't exist yet.
Ah, the memories of anguish and despair.
One of the reasons why he's my favorite hero back in dota1. There's just something beautiful about seeing your enemies panick while dying slowly.

His new aghs punishes opponents for dispelling, but has too short of a cast range imo
Also Venomancer's ultimate comes from the Necromancer class from Diablo 2 and as such Xul from HoTS has it direct copy of it as well.

"I cant move"
Step 1: Put wards
Step 2: Run
Repeat until your assailant dies. Slowly. And painfully.
