I've been against Sam Harris from the first time I heard him run his "smarter than though because I speak slowly and calmly" schtick about Determinism ~15 years ago. This was long before I knew anything about his political views, and I've felt vindicated every time I've heard him say anything about anything ever since.

He's right about determinism, but completely wrong about Israel. I've lost so much respect for him.
@@julianbannon3076 His "evidence" for determinism was speaking calmly and slowly about EKG evidence, claiming that he could "predict" what people were going to respond to predefined questions based on which parts of their brains lit up when being asked. The motion of electricity through the brain is not "determining" your thoughts, as he believed, it's evidence of your thoughts happening in real time. "You" are as much the electricity flowing through your brain as you are the grey matter itself, and his smug certainty about it never considered that possibility.
Moreover, Determinists are people trying to convince themselves that sensory experience of the outside world is trustworthy where sensory experience of the inner world is illusory. The consciousness exists below sensory experience, and we know this for certain because it doesn't go away when you deprive someone of external sensory experience. If this internal sensory experience of consciousness is illusory, then there is absolutely nothing trustworthy that's built upon it, that includes sensory data of the external world, which all of Sam's arguments are built upon.
Determinism is a philosophy that fears uncertainty, so much so that people who believe it would deprive all of existence of any possible meaning in order to feel safe from that fear.
Harris is good on woke-ism. Agreed he's been really disappointing since 2016.

Debate or no debate, the main issue is that almost half of the country is STILL suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome. Our country is irreversibly and irrevocably divided and no amount of debates or presentations of facts or evidence will ever change anyone's mind.

RFK is by far the leading poller in those ranks, but he should mention Libertarians too, anything but just acting like it's just Trump vs Biden. I find Dave' s argument flawed regarding the victim's family member goes back to the murderer's house and kills the murderer's family. In comparison to the Israel/Palestine conflict.
The situation is totally different because that situation is between two citizens in the same nation. The answer to that situation is for the community to duel justice. The citizens have an allegiance and an incentive to follow the rules of their tribe/nation. Citizens are powerless. Their only protection is in being part of the tribe/nation.
However, the Israel/Palestine situation is between two warring tribes/Nations. If one faction delivers an injustice to the other faction who can make sure justice is served properly?
The victim in this situation has no where to turn or allegiance to a nation. The victim in this situation is not just the dead/injured but the ruling powers itself . The rulers look weak and lose respect from other nations or their own people if nothing is done. They must protect itself by performing an action that deters the other faction from doing it again. Otherwise, they may face the consequences of another attack
A better comparison would be organized crime factions protecting their neighborhoods.
Honest question: Has Dave offered any solutions to end the Israel/Hamas conflict? He can definitely bang on about civilian deaths and reasons for Hama's existence, which I largely agree with, but I don't remember hearing any tangible solutions from him.
