Graeme, question. Was the red and blue ribbon thing around her right front leg put there by the farmer to let you know that something was wrong? Or, does it have another purpose?
If they are what I think they are, then theyre accelerometers. Devices which can measure how the cow is walking and help pick up on any issues or changes. Gait analysis is becoming a really big thing in agriculture. IceRobotics are one manufacturer/researcher I'm aware of from my time at uni
Blue with the block serves most of the time 2 purposes. 1st is a ID, so the parlor computer know who she is, 2nd as mentioned below heat detection... Red is kind of universal in the dairy industry for waiting time milk. You can milk in a separate container but you can not sell it, due to treatments with antibiotics (which are not to be given willy nilly) Any other colours are farm specific, like yellow is a heifers and she need training in the parlor. Green maybe don't rebreed, cull cow. The list can go on. It came to be like this because to be frankly honest the farmers (as humans) would lose track of the cows Lengthy but hope it helped
@@blue_boy8621 Interesting. ha ha I thought maybe it was an ankle bracelet and she was on house arrest for running around with the bulls or jumping curfew. :0D
Typically if there’s bleeding. The magical paste or powder help dry up the area and form a scab over the wound to let it heal. The same way if we get a scrape, we’ll put some cream and a bandaid over it to give it time to heal. The corrium that he always talks about is what forms the hoof horn. The same way we have a nail bed that forms our fingernails and toenails, and continuously grows out from there. If you break your nail in the middle, it’ll hurt but not cause much damage or pain. If you rip your entire nail off or cause injury to the nail bed at the base, you’re going to do a lot more to it to help it heal correctly and keep it protected from outside elements.

So satisfying and I even love the routine trims, I just love watching someone who knows what they’re doing, work! I mean, it’s enjoyable to watch highly skilled people use their skills!😁💕🇨🇦
Very interesting and informative. I never ever knew this job existed. I enjoy your videos.
If you’re ever in Appleton, looking for a new or upgraded chute, I’d love to buy you a pint! Thanks for caring for these cows - and being so inspiring!
Why do I enjoy watching this so much??? I don’t have cows🤣🤣love it
I never realized how much these videos taught me until my friend sent me a hoof trimming clip and I was able to explain to her what he was doing and why. So thanks!!
You make me wish I was a cow 😂 cos the care you put into your job is so incredible to watch 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Another great video. Your explanations are always well done. No need to worry about the length.
I like seeing the "normal" maintaining of the hooves. You go through it so quick. Why do you do the half-moon on the inside of the hooves again?
@Sufiya H. AAAAHHHHHH...Makes total sense. I wish I had common sense sometimes. Thanks!!
I love the sound of the knife slicing through the hoof! It is just so satisfying 😇😇😇😇
Love the title. “That’s what HE said!” 🤣😂
Love this channel. It's always changing.
Great video Graeme, always a pleasure to watch, stay safe
Graeme, question. Was the red and blue ribbon thing around her right front leg put there by the farmer to let you know that something was wrong? Or, does it have another purpose?
to check if shes in heat it counts the steps that shes making and if she makes double of steps in a day dan she is in heat
i am not good at english sorry
If they are what I think they are, then theyre accelerometers. Devices which can measure how the cow is walking and help pick up on any issues or changes.
Gait analysis is becoming a really big thing in agriculture. IceRobotics are one manufacturer/researcher I'm aware of from my time at uni
Blue with the block serves most of the time 2 purposes. 1st is a ID, so the parlor computer know who she is, 2nd as mentioned below heat detection...
Red is kind of universal in the dairy industry for waiting time milk. You can milk in a separate container but you can not sell it, due to treatments with antibiotics (which are not to be given willy nilly)
Any other colours are farm specific, like yellow is a heifers and she need training in the parlor. Green maybe don't rebreed, cull cow. The list can go on. It came to be like this because to be frankly honest the farmers (as humans) would lose track of the cows
Lengthy but hope it helped
@@blue_boy8621 Interesting. ha ha I thought maybe it was an ankle bracelet and she was on house arrest for running around with the bulls or jumping curfew. :0D
I like to see the routine trims without lameness. It shows that you guys and the farmers are working hard to keep them healthy and pain free.
I wish you would explain when you do or don't wrap up the hoof after you apply a medication and a block - thanks!
@@SandrA-hr5zk Thanks for explanation! Makes sense. I was just worried about additional damage/infection as they hoofs look like they get quite dirty on the farm.
@@chrismarcellus6933 He says often that the wrap isn't going to keep it clean and isn't meant to. It's more just when there's some kind of paste he's treating it with, to keep the paste from just falling off as soon as the cow walks off.
@@junbh2 Thanks for the reply. I have watched a lot of his videos, and I guess I misheard concerning the wrap. Thanks for the clarification. I will pay attention more often :)
Glad you got away to re energize. Love you channel, your a great teacher!
Man I'd love to get a mani pedi every 2-4 weeks, these cows are living the fancy life 😂
I have been watching you for 1-2 years. Now I want to be a hoof trimmer 😅 you have inspired me to be one. I hope you have a lovely day/night/evening/morning 😁
I seem to remember that the YELLOW discoloration usually means that there is something wrong below. So I assumed it'll go further than "just" the whole we saw at first.
Thank you hun for what you do and your videos.
Is it possible that you could have some old Scottish songs while doing your work, so we get to take part of that culture as well?
Yes+
That does sound cool. I do enjoy your current musical choices as well, though. I trust you to choose!

I like when you explain things. So glad you had a vacation
Interesante trabajo, seria genial que colocaran subtítulos en español
Thanks for giving us a good chance to remind ourselves what normal looks like. Much appreciated!
