Emerson knives remind me of all the knives I would see at local swap meets and smoke shops. These knives are priced so high for what you get. They should be under $49.99. But hey, use the military/tactical/self-defense angle, add limited runs in the mix and these knives sell themselves.
Yep, what everybody else said. It’s $230 for G 10 and 150for CM with log stick. Also, enjoy adjusting your pivot regularly. Made in the USA is no excuse for the price of Emerson knives. I love their designs have owned many of them back in the day and everyone with the exception of a HD seven frame lock had significant issues.
Titanium on the lock side and Steel on the clip side. From what I gather, they are designed to have some lock stick, for safety sake. Mine had to little to none after break-in and depending on how hard I used it. Also, the inside of my liners are exactly the same. They don't really put anything into polishing any part of the handle. They feel like high quality and low budget at the same time but I still got hooked on them.
@@SliceyDicey Take a look at Emerson's web page, Anatomy of an Emerson Knife, and it shows the breakdown. A lot of people seem to not realize that there are non-magnetic stainless steels. Those are the stainless steels that they use to make mechanical watch cases due the issues that come with magnetism and mechanical watch reliability.
If he just changed the steel to like 20 cv as a option for some of his blades for those that want better steel I would definitely buy a couple. I sold my karambit when I wanted to get my first custom I liquidated it as well as a few spyderco knives a got a dope Ferrum foge knife for my first custom. Been in my pocket since.
Keep it... That is one beautiful piece. Grinds are symmetrical and sharp. U can take some 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper to the lock face and the stick is gone easy peasy.
I have an a100 which I inexplicably love. It has lock stick, stiff action, and mediocre fit and finish. Totally not worth $188. That said, I beat the snot out of this thing and it takes it all. I,ve cut a fair bit of copper wire and that 154cm has stood up amazingly. Great heat treat.
I have a 2014 CQC-8. Double Titanium liners and no back spacer. It has good action after servicing and tuning. I like it but haven't carried much but I did last week after I got a Lynch Clip for it. You sharpen the one side and strop the other.
And that's why I hate g10, frn, grn; anything in the fiberglass family, no matter how distantly related. Yet none of these knife channels ever mentions this. You're the first person I've ever seen comment on it.
Emersons make the most beautiful blades I think my opinion and don’t worry about the lock stick it will wearing real quick and then you’ll be perfect beautiful nice congrats and again the blade is gorgeous;) Give it some time you’ll come around I promise it’ll grow on you
Lock stick is due to Ti liners, and the Sheepdog models run on bearings so that should show you how far they've come if your new nylitron washer knife has better action than a bearing model.
@@SliceyDicey no the Sheep dog models the one you returned are some of the only bearing models, and I think the flipper CQC7 as well he very rarely uses bearings but my point was Emerson has come miles in fit, finish, and action.
New subscriber, dig the content! Have you ever reviewed any of the Extrema Ratio knives? Seems to be a real lack of recent reviews for these cats. Thanks for the content, great work!
Great video sir. Always had great luck with my Emersons. 🤷🏻♂️ Along with Strider, Hinderer, Winkler, and DpX, a lot of badasses way tougher than me carry and have recommended them to me. I know Emerson are somewhat still notorious for a little light lockstick, especially right out of the box. I find most (not all) people who criticize them tend to be people more interested in pocket jewelry than a functional "hard use" tool.
I don't feel bad about sending it back to the retailer at all, barring some unusual circumstance. They could've inspected it before shipping and taking legit returns is part of the cost of doing business. I used to work in vaping wholesale and some mech mods were known for poor qc, and we'd always check those before sending, otherwise we'd be paying for all the return shipping and replacement shipping and whatever shipping it cost for us to exchange with manufacturer. With that said, I got my first manix 2 a week ago and immediately sent it to spyderco for repair (lock was sticking with a very distinct plastic on plastic sound) along with some other stuff that I was having sharpened instead of returning it. If the Amazon seller had another in stock, I would've totally exchanged it though.
I've tried really hard to like Emersons over the years. Have owned several always end up selling. ZT makes better emersons. Shoot i can almost argue a $40 kershaw Emerson is better than Emerson lol
I really want to like them but I can’t. I’m sure it’ll last forever but the overall fit and finish isn’t there. However Emerson has some fantastic designs. I wish they’d up their game and I’d pick up the Kwaiken. You should look into the Zt640. I’d send you mine but it’s pretty modded😅
thedog556 also what makes it trash. No one can objectively say that an Emerson is a good knife in 2020. 154cm ran at 57hrc that would be decimated in edge retention by 8cr. And won’t say “but muh field sharpening!” Because ease of sharpening is almost wholly dependent on composition and not hardness. Crappy materials used all around with questionable quality control. I used to like Emerson a lot back many years ago. Then I realized that the only reason they exist is the cult following they have. They are objectively some of the worst knives in regards to value that are available today.
I love the wave on everything except an Emerson. Lol. Would it kill them to do a full flat grind version for the low-speed, high drag, non-tactical, crowd? Even the spyderco wave models are saber ground. But why though? A blade is a tool for slicing. I understand the reasoning behind the thick chisel grind and rough g10. I just can't go down the Emerson road again.
Lol... yeah Nylatron! I thought I was making up a silly word or something... As soon as you opened it I thought... Great action! Not really my cup... Still just as fun to watch. Sometimes more so because we see things that we're not versed on... You know? You probably already know about graphite (pencil) to relieve lock stick...
The problem I have with Emerson knives is that they charge that much money, it seems to me, for that Wave feature. Which is great.. And all... But... They materials don't blow me away for their price listings.
I own a few over the years, bought them when on sales, with a price that's a little easier to swallow. Sure one can argue they are tools, but they also end up charging pocket jewelry prices and so it's rather poor value for the consumer, but if it's just to support made in USA, then it's a different discussion). To be honest, I think Emerson is taking the old saying "what's not broken, don't fix it" , a little way too far.... Imagine how much better it can be, if you gave the same money to WE or Reate and ask them to OEM a Emerson? Or even let ZT just made some Emerson models( not join designs like ZT620 and 630 but regular Emersons like CQC7)
Emerson’s are crude and rough... it’s no gentlemen’s knife. The G10 is so rough that sticks in your hand like no ones business. The 154 steel is for easy sharpening in the field. It’s a fighting knife. That is what an Emerson is all about. Cup of tea or not, all knife guys should own at least one.
I gotta say, this knife grew on me during the course of your video. In the start, it was a no. But by the end, it’s interesting. I like the look of it opened (better than closed). Wicked shahp.
Still not in love with Emerson's stuff. It looks like a $25 knife with a $200 logo stamped on it. It's a tough sell considering the fit/finish coming out of China for $30 these days.
Emerson, thumb disk, and it having the Emerson opener are what keep me from getting one. However it looks decent considering what Emerson has put out lately.
I had two Emerson folders. I gave one to my sons friend when he entered the Army and the other to my brother. I was very impressed by both of the knives. I have two Emerson’s now, both fixed blades (Karambit/Mule). I really like fixed blades but recently started purchasing folders. I intend to obtain another Emerson folder when I find one that stirs my blood.
Strange that you said if you get a knife and action is bad or weak detent that a noob move is to send back to retailer, they sent it to you that way. So your supposed to be quality control then send back to the manufacture? Retailers should check it before sent to you. Just an opinion.
Meh, with that lock stick issue and just 154 CM(not even CPM 154), I think it would be better to get a QSP Woodpecker knife. It has the Emerson wave feature, M390 and better value for the price. Emerson, step up your game, please!!
An "old" steel with an absolutely perfect heat treat is almost always better than whatever flavor of the week spyderco is putting out with a just adequate heat treat... im a huge spyderco fanboy, btw.
