Rick Rubin is so goddam life affirming to listen to. He's like a gas station for the soul.
Beautifully put
They planted a seed… Got a Ruben
@@LeonSKennedy7777 he tops you up with the inspiration you need.
hah I love this!
it’s the same metaphor used by my yoga teacher - “these classes are like a charging doc and you’re the electric car”.
I guess anyone who has the power to remind others of the simple truths in life are gas stations / charging docs for other people.
I would love to work with him
"If you're aiming towards Greatness, you don't get there by what other people think."
Rick Rubin should be on the mount rushmore of generation x hands down. He was the guy that provided many a soundtrack for many of us. Hes is PROUDLY one of 3 of my absolute favorite producers of all time.
I like the way Rick asks questions. It almost felt like he was hosting a podcast with Rogan as a guest
Yep. Quickly turned into the Biography of Joe Rogan. Hosted by Joe Rogans biggest fan: Joe Rogan.
This interview is great! The interviewer is interviewing the interviewee and the interviewee is being the interviewer. Awesome how both Rogan and Rubin are both fascinated and inquisitive and ask one another questions about their craft.
Fawk yeah❤🎉
Eeed😮rret
Ere
I think of it as a recorded conversation not an interview
2:21:22 "I've always lived in my head, I never lived in my body" I can relate.
Yeah, same here
This is an interview I rewatch every time I feel lost. Rick has this way of bringing me back to reality.
Same!
That chili pepper doc clip proves that Jamie is so great at his job. He’s really the John Frusciante of JRE.
This guy is what my generation is calling 'authentic'. And he is! He is such an important artist!!!
4:51 More like producer. Def jam was founded by him . The label was heavy metal label until he partnered up with Russell Simmons. And Rick gave LL Cool j his first break. ( Do your research lil Reese voice ) If you know you're not lol . But seriously you can't say Russell without Rick .💯💯💯💯
Great episode - anything with Rick Rubin is always a win.
Except the last Black Sabbath album 13
the first music i can remember hearing in elementary school was this early rap, with kids learning to break dance, and friends making their own public enemy and beastie boys t-shirts. later i discovered rock music along side the red hot chili peppers and other stuff i learned Rick had part in. He is most deserving of his legendary appeal.
Absolutely incredible. I'm flyin high from the vibes coming from this interview. Thanks for this!
Same here.🤙🏻
I’ve watched Rick Rubin be interviewed by so many people. Hands down this is the best. Rogan is so gifted as an interviewer. He asks questions nobody thinks to ask and draws out stories from his guests that we haven’t heard.
10/10.
I didn't know Ric had written a book untill I was driving home from Zurich the other day, pulled into Montreux to pass by a guitar shop that was strangely closed, so went into the book shop next door that usually has a pretty ordinary English section and found the book..... Ironically a classic scenario finding a book in the way the book explains how we can stumble across great things such a good read for any artist or Human in general....
You born and raised in Switzerland or moved from somewhere?
@@silewis9396 Grew up in Sydney Australia, moved here in 1997 to be around good snowboarding... Moving back to Australia next month !! To be around good guitarists ;)
@davemorgs7635 I thought your English was pretty good. Sounds like a good lifestyle I have a lot of admiration for Oz and Switzerland looking from England. Good on ya mate
"The surprising nature of things. You hear something unexpected and makes you laugh." I can relate to this so many times when I hear a song I never heard of in that way or the twist and turns it gives me. I laugh by its unexpected creativity. A new take. And gives me goosebumps too sometimes.
I love this guy! Without him some of the best music and artists would never have been heard! He rocks all music, every genre.
Classique 1881, Say “R, R,R” you can do whatever you want, what ever you like, it’s your own life”. Great episode❤
because of Rick Rubin’s book The Creative Act, Im able to finish my 4th upcoming album TIL I LAND…and its my most freeing and personal and artistic music project to date, mostly due to the mindset and lifestyle of an artist that Rick’s wisdom presents...and that part around 01:57:30 is very true whenever people ask me about whats so good about the book, I tell them that reading just 1 chapter will make you have the right mindset to want to create something at that very moment 🙏🏽💎🎶with gratitude, LaynoProd
Yo, I was reading it during production too. It's very affirming that I already knew 80% of the ideas.
I would never even refer to myself as an artist before reading the book. It's all very useful and reassuring information.
Good luck with your new release, I understand the level of work and sacrifice involved.
How do u leave slayer out of his bio?
Rick Rubin, Arthur Baker, Kurtis Mantronik... all my heroes.
All satan worshippers. 🤷🏻♂️
What an amazing interview! Rick Rubin is such a cool dude! I happen to grow up in the same town he did Long Beach New York. I can tell you that music was very prevalent where we grew up. It was a great place to grow up. Cannot wait to read his book
If you ever think Rick Rubin is quite wise, remember he’s also a guy whose wife screams “fire” and he rolls over and goes back to bed
What a great episode. Haven’t watched a JRE start to finish in at least something like a year. Wonderful just fantastic
When rick talks about how the rhc wrote their music thats exactly how i wrote the road to redemption. I wrote that book in chapters and then i put it together like a puzzle
I was a freshman in high school when that Dice album came out . "I'll be calling back in an hour, get it....HOUR BACK!!! Get iT!!! Uhhhhgggg!! " Amazing!
I cant believe this guy watches about 11hrs of wrestling per week and he says its similar to real life! 2:36:08 I found it hilarous for such a wise meditator etc to be really into pro wrestling!
i would watch a 84 hour long ted talk by ruck rubin
One of my biggest influences as a musician…Rick is more than a legend, he is the godfather of audio
Always delivering Slayer to the fans!!!
Loved this guy before. Now I know he loves wrestling I want to be adopted by him.
WWF is Shakespeare , taps into the pure primal gladiator in all of us
I was thrilled to hear Joe speak about his appreciation of Kool G. Rap.
THANK YOU JOE for telling him you have all your faith in him reading the audio book himself! It’s a god blessing having Rick’s voice speak his own words into your ears. Going to start listening to it again for the 3rd or 4th time. Cardio/Sauna sessions for the win
I loved this episode. Rick is a great guy and easy to listen to.
Thx for discovering Hip Hop Rick !
Fascinating story about the early days of hip-hop & his hand in it changing music, & perhaps the world, forever!
I love Joe Rogan.. but Rick Rubin is on another level of awesome. Im not a fan of pro- wrestling, but watchin Joe laugh at Ricks love for it, infuriated me... Joe confirmed he aint on Ricks level.
“It’s never done until you think it’s great” - Rick Rubin
In summary, no matter how radically different from the known, and no matter if only a few find you relatable, when you're THAT absurdly good, until the point you and those few around you laugh at this skillful absurdity, no one can deny you. No one. Cause you are your deadliest selves, not only unique, but the most lethal, one of a kind version of the enigma that your click in.
Joe asking Rick Rubin about his dieting routine is like interviewing Mike Tyson about quantum physics
You know he's always going to go off topic and talk about weird shit
Always trying to find a excuse to speak bullshit about vegans 😂 in fact mike Tyson its really versátile in every topic i think
what's goin' on, where's everyone?????
😲😲
They’re old episodes you gotta look em up to see these if they’re not recommended to you and nobody really cares to watch em
I'm about half way through and there's tons of great insights into the creative process.
Grand Wizard Theodore invented scratching..
Jamie can we fact check this
Wish Rubin woulda spoke more about his depression years.
Rick Rubin.have listened to the audio book over 10 times now. The Truth the way and the light for any artist.
I have listened to his audio book - it is great. A lot to dig into…need to digest it. But Rick has truly got the pulse on the universe and the eternal muse… that dance that all artists do. Great ideas and insights articulated clearly and profoundly. My favorite part of this interview is when Joe asks “what else do you consume on television, or is it wrestling mainly?” And Ricks like “Mainly!” 🤣
Rick Rubin's experience as a producer is so vast. I like what Joe covered in this interview starting from Rick's earliest exposure to hip hop. I used to listen to Kurtis Blow for example and then years later Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Rick's Johnny Cash production work was really good; he's into a lot of music genre's.
I have a whole new different respect for Joe after hearing how much he loves Kool G Rap! Joe is a wise man and KGR is a god.
literally a living legend.
Im 54 and I remember when rap was not respected at all. It was called rap crap. Nobody gave it any credit at all. I love a lot of it.🤘
fantastic 3 hours with highest level of music guru. who can hear will hear all insides you wanted to find out .
Always diggin' your shows... McMinnville TN 😁👍
Never knew about Rick damn near dying in a house fire, that’s insane 😳. Glad he’s fine
Fark yes, bring on the official Read By Rick Rubin Audiobook 🌿☯️🌿
Shout out for teaching me ‘reticle’ Joe Rogan
I just finished listening to this episode. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!
This is such a great interview
Remember this guy got the Beastie Boys on the radio.
Launched so many
Jamie chill bro
What did he do?
@@Jojojo-pq4otyea i’m curious too
I’m confused as well , he could of meant “ Jamie’s chill bro “ idk lol
Lmaoo.i caught it.

Amazing Interview loved it… holly crap did Rick Rubin just lay out the secret to life. In any case his personal philosophy is a powerful one. I’m getting that book!
Lyrics come to life like stream of consciousness.
Avett bros are the Best!!
39:55 im sure you just made people fall over with laughter joe
13:16 that relates to the Leo house on the corner of Fullerton avenue across the street from nFA
When I started naming the people that grew up in that house they tore the house down immediately
Jeff Sean Carla there was like five siblings in that house I think and they had long hair they all had long hair
Maybe Patrick
Love this conversation 💎💎💎 Saludos desde Chile 💪
I really feel like if you’re here, you’re on the right path
S.O.A.D story 1:53:00
God damn joe this is orobably one of the best shows ive ever seen. Rick ruben is just such a natural. And he did the most unique shit. Man i have some books out there on amazon and its a dark comedy. All the jokes are original
I came up with them myself. And i am not a funny gut. I am no comedian. But comedy was the only way to tell this story. I would like aome feed back one day. Abel vs Cain. I have three books. Abel vs cain The awakening. Abel vs Cain the reckoning and abel vs Cain the road to redemption. My favorite joke is my poke at jerry Seinfeld show in book three. I wish i were as funny as you
Because comedy is hard.this show with rick. Fascinating.
Can’t believe this is getting released a whOLE YEAR later
I think it was a re-release
2:09:35 I LOVE my sleep as well but DAMN DUDE 😂!!
Im trying to avoid thinking out loud too loudly. It's ok for you guys to have your own dream.
did you ever meet zappa?
Such a great conversation. What a gem!! 🎆🎆🎆🎆
best podcast ive seen in a while
View count is damn near disrespectful
Love Rick Rubin. he is Amazing.
why they hiding the rubin pod 😦
Great Ending 👍
Professional vibe checker lol.
Hi Joe! Great show as always. I'm 69, and I don't understand Springsteen, but love Dylan. Taste ca be so random
If you love this podcast check out Rick Rubin’s podcast named tetragrammaton. It’s fantastic. Thank you Joe for asking about the house fire (a story I knew of but not the crazy specifics) and the joy you had discussing pro wrestling.
I loved TLa Rock 🔥
One of the coolest people alive
22:36 Steven Tyler doesn't ask to let he just spits right on the stage
27:31 I do like that cut time hospital beeper sound
“I don’t think there is anything to know…” dude
Rick should have talked more about the beasty boys, since he broke them big
How does Rick not know who Grand Wizzard Theodore is?
This is Bert 💯
14:57 yeah I think that phrase was played at 36 Chambers Street very accurately actually
Or buy one of the attorney general's
Jannoti
27:43 the version I heard at Quinn's pins the other night sounded like Chris Rock
Just found this... wow! Super awesome!!!
Just read your comment. great.
let Rick talk!
Geez - the House Fire story around 2:10:00 is CRAZY. Sorta detracts from his entire message imo.
Look at what a garage band like the black keys...times change when inthestudio changed there sound,%made,"brothers
That quantum leap into this body was a disaster for me. It was going to good until I realized I was walking around in that my brain is blacking out and. It would play the CD,and black out so much I was losing a couple minutes per hour. It was traumatic to see the same thing below us
You would totally get Wrestlemania, Joe.
Pharrell next !
at 11 min rick is referring to sampling and tape loops as was done by reggae artists and producers in the 70s. i guess his artists did it on records in the early 80s. it wasnt new.
Pro wrestling was replaced by politics
Rubin said it everything is a work just like wrestling
