- "Loch-style" fly fishing from a drifting boat on lakes and dams can be an incredibly effective technique for catching trout... IF you grasp some of the subtle nuances and little tricks. We join two of Australia's finest exponents of this art for a loch-style "masterclass" on Lake Eucumbene, in the NSW Snowy Mountains... Oh, and check out how hard these trout fight... Amazing!

Starlo, would you be able to do a video of spinning for trout on Lake Jindabyne? I have a soft spot for that place it’s where I learnt the art of catching trout! It’s such a beautiful place with its Lunar landscape
I’m sure I’ll get around to it. Shore or boat?
@@StarloGetsReel Shore based would be nice but whatever you are comfortable with 👍
Fun stuff... but I do prefer the water I fish to be moving.
Keith, yes, I prefer stream fishing too, but the still waters do have their own charms.
Soooo keen im at buckenderra next week first time there
How did you go?
Really well produced video Starlo. Informative and entertaining. You are at the top of your craft.
Thanks so much for that great feedback, Bill.
Great video mate. That handful of mudeyes is no shock, lol, mudeyes and yabbies are the best baits on Eucumbene, IMO.
Absolutely. Wish they were always that easy to find, though. That lot came from under 3 or 4 rocks!
Looking forward to this one Steve.
I have been fishing a team of flies from the bank at Eucumbene my last couple of trips. Learning more each time.
Good stuff R T... You'll love this one, I reckon.
Nice informative video, thanks Steve. Do you think you could fish Lock style from a kayak or canoe?
Thanks mate. Yes, definitely/ Be good to have a drogue od some other way to slow your drift, especially in any sort of breeze.
@@StarloGetsReel I have a small drogue, will definitely be giving it a go, thanks.
Well done guys! Those Eucumbene rainbows are bloody fantastic, they're pulling like freight trains at the moment.... :)
Thanks Peachy! Yes, I can’t believe how hard they go!
I will be giving that a go this season, great vid, thx
No worries! Yes, it's good fun, and damned effective!
Another great video Steve. Could you put something about rigging the three flies in an article (or short video) and post on Instagram or some other social media that we follow you on? Just a an annotated diagram how how the flies are attached would suffice. Just bought you a beer in hope!!
Thanks for that. Yep, I'll try. Basically one on the point (end) and two sections of leader about a metre to 1.6 metres long joined with triple turn surgeons knots. Leave one tag of about 12cm at each knot and tie a fly to each. Hope that makes sense?
Hey mate I have been watching your vids for a while now and are really impressed with content /information and entertainment.
I especially enjoyed watching you and your wife in tasmania as my wife and I are both flyfishers we both connect with what you are doing
We both look forward to future vids
Cheers
Thanks so much for that wonderful feedback, Scott! Jo and I really appreciate it.
Great video Starlo, I’m just getting into fly down there. We’re you just slow retrieving nymphs with a long leader?
Yep, basically. Mix it up a bit by trying different speeds and depths.
Really good video Steve. You picked good boat partners!
Thanks! Yes, I sure did. Lots of knowledge there.
Reminder on
Great show this one, good techniques , many thanks
Thanks, Johnny!
Your making me miss my favourite lake back home mate!
It's a nice spot! Where are you now?
@@StarloGetsReel I moved to Colorado 10 Years ago. I get to fish some wonderful waters out here now, and i just got a Job as a ranger for one of the fishing areas on Pikes Peak.
I grew up fishing Eucumbene over at Arnold & Josie Crowes out of Cobrabold Bay.
@@matthewsutton8482 awesome! I'm jealous... apart from the grizzly threat! That'd spin me out a bit.
Sadly I don't think Josie Crowe's accommodation is still in operation. Plenty of trout in that bay, though! Tight Lines.
@@StarloGetsReel Yeah - talking with my parents the other day it sounds like permit to operate the cabins ended when she passed and then with COVID, the future of the cabins is in doubt. I hope they get something sorted.
Thanks for the chat Starlo! Look forward to you making me miss more of home :)
