Thanks you sir for all the helpful info! I always casted thinking they were going for warmer waters! I will be trying them Shady areas and days, no wonder I haven’t caught anything big yet!
Another great video with some simply put top tips and a fantastic location. I must admit though I keep looking at those hills and I know what I would be doing but for those passionate fishermen out there you could do a lot worse than listen to Robbie's hot tips. He increased my success rate while fishing so he must be a bloody wizard. LOL. Great Job mate...........
Thanks heaps mate. I am hoping to make one very soon. I've been flat out at work lately, and even yesterday while I was out I didn't fish because I needed to be back in mobile phone service by 5pm for work.
Mate, this was awesome. What a wealth of intel bro. Really covered every aspect of Trout fishing during the winter. I agree with all your advice mate. Cheers Moose. 🎣
Hey Mate, love your show. I live in Ballarat - next time you come this way to do a vid on Wendouree (trolling vs shore fishing, maybe?) I'd love to know just to be able to stop by and give a proper hello.
Hi Robbie, can't believe I missed this video. What a putz!! Anyhoo. I'm primarily a boat fisher person( a bloke in this case) and I really enjoy flatline trolling and Leadline trolling. I have one tassie devil(a bit limp I know) but, thanks to your video I off to my local tackle store to expand my range. I'm pretty sure now, one pink one is not enough! I actually have it mounted on a leadline setup. Question(if I may), should I use the deeper diving version to help the leadline do it's job of getting the lure deeper down. Or will the Leadline max out the standard lure for depth? As usual another great video, many thanks. Peter
Thanks Peter. (A bloke in this case). Haha I guess it would depend on how you are going on the day. If you're catching fish, don't change. If you're not catching fish then maybe try getting the Yassie down as deep as possible.
Thanks heaps Robbie !! I haven’t been catching any fish for 5 days at the lake out the back of my house and after those tips I caught a trout on a blade and salmon eggs / power bait
Great video buddy salut you from Ireland.. I'm new to fishing and looking forward to catch my first trout in the near future... I have one question do I use a float or do I bottom lake fishing?
Thanks so much mate. You can catch trout both ways. I like to bottom fish because it is easier, but have caught trout on floats. Floats seem to work well in shallower Lakes of just a few meters deep.
I live near a large unstocked lake with loads of predators in Ireland like redfin and pike and if I use bait I catch large bait fish and if I use lures I catch pike (wich are like pickerel but a lot bigger)
Been waiting for this vid Robbie so thanks heaps. Would be cool if you could put some of your fishing tips onto a DVD one day or is that asking too much lol.
Hey buddy, yeah most likely not until the weather warms up unfortunately. If I get time I might head out soon and try and catch a winter redfin, but I do seem to have a lot on lately.
Hey buddy that varies from lure to lure. Some need to be paused and some don't. Winged lures such as Tassie Devil lures need to be retrieved faster etc...
Hey Robbiefishing what another great video I am just wondering do you think right that a 3.6grm switch blade is to small for fishing in dams for Redfin and trout because it is my first time using them
Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong with fishing for Redfin . What I do is do a running sinker with the smallest sinker I have with worms on a long shanked hook and then let it sit for half an hour . With soft plastics I cast the in slowly reel in and then jig it up reel in the slack then jig repeat I can't tell if I get a bite . Btw I fish spavin lake Sunbury . Can you please make a video on knowing when you have a bite
Apocalypse Hey buddy, it's really hard for.me to tell you what you're doing wrong unless I am fishing with you. From what you have said, it sounds like you're doing it all right. Thus time of the year can be very hard to catch redfin.
Robbie can I just thank you for being a good sport it's all learning. And yes thank you for correcting me😅, rivers are closed winter time. The point I was trying to make was timing is everything even fishing winter time around river mouths and along banks after the brown trout have finished their run they are more confident then rainbows and will feed in shallow water up close to the banks. Thanks again for being a good bloke would love to trade fishing tips with you one day on the water cheers. 🍻
And keep up the good cod vids I'm in the snowy mountains and it's to cold for cod up here although I do sting the chase the dinosaurs in the near future. 🤙 if you ever need any tips for trout you can find me commenting on your vids man.
Thanks mate. If you click on the video description on any of my recent trout stream videos you will find all the info to the gear I used. I use a couple of different rods depending on which waterway I am fishing.
Hey mate yes they will definitely do that too. I guess they have the choice. Some go up stream and some go down deep. In streams they always head upstream.
Hi Antonio to be 100% sure I do not know sorry. Tackle stores in my area usually sell powerboat in jars so it may be a case of just choosing a colour and hoping for the best. LOL
Alright I love all your videos mate and I still like this one but tip no.2 about best to catch trout in low light and also no.3. I grew up in Tassie with some of the best trout fishing in the world, I can say IV always caught more trout at high noon then low light. Also one of the best winged lures would be the Tassie devil fredo frog. Best baits for me would be mudeyes, wood cockroaches (the pure black ones) worms and grasshoppers. No disrespect mate just my 2 cents. One last thing bright orange flesh = the best tasting trout
Hey Robbie, I love your videos mate they’re extremely informative, I live near Harcourt, just moved recently from Melbourne so I’m new to freshwater fishing, have you got any tips or even a favourite spot that you might have fished around my area?
Great video Robbie, I was just wondering if the lakes that get stocked in Victoria for school holidays are open all year, because I couldn't find any info in the internet.
Thanks heaps mate. They sure are open all year, however many of them are too warm in the summer months and the trout are usually caught by them. Quite a few have golden perch which start biting when the trout slow down.
Your second point trout don't like sun light mate no try barometric pressure. What do river trout do on a sunny day? And yes cloudy days help but it's not because the fish don't like sun light.
Hey mate I dont fish Jindabyne personally. If I did I would look for anything that showed up in them open. Not connected to the bottom or any structure. I would note the depth of the object and try and fish at that depth.
Mate morning or evening you can throw a spoon with a hook attached and catch trout, mate I've caught trout on a hook with no bait right place right time fishing is timing in every sense of the word.
Awesome video Robbie! Im heading up to lake Eildon in about 3 weeks. It will be shore fishing only and I will be staying up at taylor bay. Ever been there and any success as this will be my first trip there ever?

Tip 5 what's wrong with grasshoppers and crickets and pretty much all insects even a small mouse. Bro bro bro have you ever caught a 10+pounder trout in one of our lakes or rivers doubt it. FISH rivers spawn time and summer you know there deep so down rig trawl certain deep parts of lakes that hold yabbies.
Downriggers require boats....I don't have 1. This is Australia, our trout fishing conditions are marginal at best. Wild 10lb trout are only found in select places, mainly Tasmania. Not in my area. I have videos on this channel of my bait fishing for trout with worms and crickets and fly fishing with grasshopper patterns.
And mate is illegal to fish with worms in rivers in NSW kids and women bait fish drift flies on a spin rod or soft plastics, real bait in rivers be careful.

dude these vids are so informative and just make you want to fish. Thanks and keep up the good work.
do you know anything about the West Barwon Reservoir? is it a good spot?

Thanks mate, yep ultralight rods are ideal.

The pricks off a barbed wire fence. LMAO. cheers mate.
Victor Bitter hahaha it really was that cold mate!
Hey is there any specific technic to the retreval of the lures? Like should a twich it or pause it? and awesome video mate
Hey buddy that varies from lure to lure. Some need to be paused and some don't. Winged lures such as Tassie Devil lures need to be retrieved faster etc...
Robbie in lakes I prefer the two pronged approach. 1 rod with bat and one with lures.
Excellent advice Ritchard, that's exactly what I do when I am fishing for redfin.
Great tips
Hey Robbie- great vids mate. Great advice! Keen to go for a flick sometime if you're keen im in the Mornington area!
Hey Robbiefishing what another great video I am just wondering do you think right that a 3.6grm switch blade is to small for fishing in dams for Redfin and trout because it is my first time using them
Jayden Bonat Thanks heaps buddy. The smaller sizes certainly work well for trout and redfin, they just don't cast as far.
Oh really do you think that they would cast more if I put a snap sinkers on then
😄 Great advice 👍
Thanks mate.

when its hot , do they not swim upstream to colder water in the tributaries???

Hi mate the boat ramp at Bonnie Doon often provides good redfin fishing.
@@robbiefishing Cheers mate will do, might try the pondage with some soft plastics!
Thanks for the tips🎣🎣
Hey buddy my pleasure.
Also on your third point you might find u are getting more fish in the shade as the can't detect ur leader or recognise or realise it's a lure.
How do you rate powerbait Rob?
very intresting good advice
Do you think a braided line is good for trout fishing?
f50koenigg I don't like It mate. Most do, but I dont. I like line with stretch when I'm trout fishing.
f50koenigg trout see braided line the best would be a light clear mono filament 4, 6 or 8 pounds depend on what size they are

7 grams = 1/4 oz.

OK. Thanks for correcting me.
I wonder what he would say about Lake Taneycomo.
Your first point brother if the trout head deep in summer they r easier to find (down rigs)
Thanks mate. If you are in a boat with a depth sounder that it. Hard work from the bank though.
Great video Robbie, roughly how deep do you fish at lake Jindabyne not in the winter and what do you look for on the sounder. Thanks
Hey mate I dont fish Jindabyne personally. If I did I would look for anything that showed up in them open. Not connected to the bottom or any structure. I would note the depth of the object and try and fish at that depth.
You should do designs on shirts and jackets
Mate morning or evening you can throw a spoon with a hook attached and catch trout, mate I've caught trout on a hook with no bait right place right time fishing is timing in every sense of the word.
Haha I have done that with redfin a lot but not with trout. Funny fish!

some good hints but would have been better for us noobs if you showed the types of lures you were talking about

Winter is also spawn time so targeting them in the rivers is the go mate fishing is timing.
