Sometimes you don't pay attention to the pop-up. Like, do you want to safely remove this device? Yes? Okay. Do you want to erase this device? Yes? Okay.
sequoia has also added a bunch of user account control popups to things. imagine youve updated your computer, you go to eject your project drive (an unconscious task for most), it wouldnt be a fair cry to think an "are you sure you want to eject this disk" popup may have been added. if you arent thinking you may just hit enter and **bam** now your project drive is wiped. simply put, it should be moved. 3 dots isnt a justification for bad UX.@@Goofyahhchingchong
They certainly nerfed the Disk Utility. Went from very useful in High Sierra to useless in Catalina onwards. Takes longer to erase, fails more often, still cannot re-arrange partitions.
Did you see the thee dots at the end of an Option in a context menu? That means that there will be a follow-up popup and that the action will not be triggered immediately
I will test this on my device right now. Will edit once finished. Edit: Brings up a mini Disk Utility-like dialog box. No, spamming Enter will not erase disk as it requires information to be supplied and Erase is not highlighted by default. Not sure why you would be spamming enter in the first place

There are 3 dots beside it. Meaning if u click it a new window pops up where u have to select further options so actually nothing will happen if u click it by mistake

Another menu will pop up because it has a three dot at the end of it. I would expect it to bring up disk utility with that removable drive in focus with the erase sub-page visible.
It prompts a dialogue so an unintentional erase is very unlikely to happen. And although it seems a bad placement, actually erasing the disks were a somewhat complicated thing for MacOS users for a long time. Since you had to launch an app under the “utilities” folder. And make a few selections. It was hard for a daily browser user at least. I think they just wanted to add a selection which the users can use to go the Disk Utilities app.
It should be a hard thing to do, unless you're a power user you would need to wipe a drive maybe once every 5 years. Even if you do need to entirely wipe a drive for a specific reason other than cleaning it there are great tools that will do it for you while giving you all the necessary warnings.

Yeah, that’s right. In general, when there’s a '…' after a command in macOS, a prompt will open after clicking, asking for further input. This has been a neat concept for many years and is also implemented for the erase disk function :)
It sorta makes me feel like they have a software problem can cause an ejected disc to be erased- so their solution is to put erase disc right next to eject disc so whenever someone complains, they can just say they musta accidentally hit erase

people are used just clicking yes. So you click erase disk. A prompt appear saying are you sure you want to erase disk. You don’t think much and you assume it’s asking are you sure you want to eject the disc? Then you just quickly click yes, and then realize what you just did.

To be honest, I really appreciate this feature as I do lots of disk erasing. There are confirmations so not a huge deal if mis clicked. It saves me from going into disk utility every time

It’s as annoying as the ‘move to junk’ option being right above the ‘mark as read’ option when selecting multiple emails in the iPhone email app. I’ve accidentally sent my entire inbox to junk after only wanting to mark everything as read on multiple occasions now. It’s a stupid position to put an option like this where you can accidentally select it.
Newer hard drives can just be unplugged without any risk of loosing data. The eject and erase disk options are propably so near because it is useless to eject in the first place
Fun fact is it has ... at the end of the text it's going to ask for a confirmation instead of just doing that command like "shutdown..." brings up a pop up asking are you sure but if you hold alt and click a option with the ... it won't ask it will just complete the command

Similar problem on the Apple Watch. When typing out a text, the backspace button, autocorrect suggestion, and then "send" button are mere pixels apart on the tiny screen. Tapping any one of those covers the rest with my finger tip, so I feel like I have to be so careful when trying to correct a spelling mistake.
This is similar to the swipe left or right and I'll accidentally do this while reading an article. Also I tried the "eye" tracking feature, it does nothing but open close and possibly delete apps.

Maybe the new OS has improved to store on cache, but about 2 yrs ago, my graphic design teacher ask her student to individual save their files in a common hard drive, and one of them didn't click eject before pulling out, ended up erasing all the current year works and several years before 😅😅
Not being able to bypass gatekeeper with ctrl+click and having to readd it every time the app updates (even command line utils) is way more annoying for me personally since I don’t use a ton of removable storage. Erase disk doesn’t need to be a context menu option right next to eject. Come on Apple
Either move it down or get a confirmation prompt or both and if you really do need to delete do what other people do and add an extra function where holding down another key like shift removes the prompt and deletes it no questions asked

Most usb devices are hit swappable and don't need ejecting. At least in windows.
but it is definitely harder to make an unintentional mistake in "umount" for it to become "dd", so terminal is a better option in this case.
