The guitar intro is fantastic . Great tone and sublime touch epitomizes melodic and high voltage blues licks . The perfect way we wish and dream to play . Intense . Flash and shades . Moving and stirring . GO ! GO! GO !JEFF !!!
Jean-Luc… thank you for your kind and heartfelt comment. Admittedly the time I spent playing for Ray taught me encyclopedias from his musical influence and had me applying my heart and musicality to what the guitar could contribute to such an ensemble. I’ve played with many iconic musicians over the years but the one and only Ray Charles holds such an impressionable time in my career that I am quite proud of. Your words mean a lot my friend. Thank you
All the guitar players who might see this might find it interesting at 0:45 seconds of the intro I bend the note so far up that the guitar string popped off the bridge… Fortunately (at 0:50 seconds) with one well placed swoop of the hand I was able to pop the guitar string back on the bridge saddle and continued the rest of my intro solo like nothing happened. The blues/rock ‘n’ roll gods were definitely looking after me at that very moment!
He was and is the greatest figure in all of American music __ he made our lives better __ there will never be another ___ you are still and will always be with us thanks Ray
Wow i'm so glad this lost footage was put up on youtube, I never new it existed, i'm proud to say that ( I've Got News For You was Written by ( ROY ALFRED ) my father, he passed away in 2008, and I would like to think that he is hanging out some where with Ray and Nat and they are all smiling listing to this post, I was actually looking for the version of Ray singing it on the tonight show with Johnny Carson, and came across this, I wish I could of seen it live, ( nice job on guitar ) thanks
Your father must have been a deep thinker. His syntax totally captures human emotion when one falls in love with an unfaithful. Many of my lovers have busted me with a similar sounding interrogation😂

@@peevmania Oh, yes! Anytime I'm alone with this tune, I can't help myself. I've just got to try to sing along with Ray! [If you could hear me, it would be your new pet peeve.]
Wow.... honored....at one point I pull the string so hard it jumped off the bridge of the guitar...in a sec I popped it back on and went on with my solo ...really proud of this moment
Awesome Jeff, You and Johnny M. are both my guitar heroes. There will of course never be another Ray or another Mahavishnu John Mclaughlin. But will there never be another Jeff Pevar either. You are one in a million my friend, an inspiration for all.
Great. THe ultimate blues master Ray gives a lesson in phrasing every time he performed. Fine blues guitar...love the 335 tone. I imagine a lot of guitar players like me could only dream to be in Jeff's shoes...mighty fine stuff.
remember hearing you in backseat of my camaro conv, playing Allman bros, and radio had stopped.Off to the Ashgrove for your 1st blues.Forever in my heart 1968.CCC
Jeff, thanks for sharing again and again. Awesome, and a nice story about John. I also enjoyed your session with Elliot, which then led me to this channel.
what a great event to have in your musical journey. to some the fact that you played with such a musical colossus as the great ray charles would be enough. but for us guitar freaks to have the mahavishnu orchestra open for you and the man, the legend, john mclaughlin in the wings rooting you on. PRICELESS. peace, rich
This really takes me back, this bands take on this tune is still fast in my memory 3+ decades later. If this was the bar for music we might not have had to listen to all that crappy pop music.
OUI , RAY , j' ai des nouvelles de toi ! 10 ans que tu n' es plus là , mais tu es toujours avec moi. Tu ne m' as jamais quitté , je t' aimerai toujours.
Ray Charles performed this song on the Tonight Show (w Johnny Carson) sometime in the 80's. I've been hoping it would show up on youtube sometime because I can point to that performance was when I became a fan !
I'm looking for a piece of footage, likely from the mid 80's (like this one). It's Ray performing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I had always liked Ray's music, and knew his hits, but hadn't really bought any of his CD's or albums. But then I got hit with a one/two punch that made me a fan ! One was a movie I had seen on cable (HBO, Cinemax, or somewhere) that had Ray's song "Drown In My Own Tears" on it that made me sit up and take notice. The next night (I think), I noticed Ray was going to be on the Tonight Show, and I naturally watched it, and was BLOWN AWAY when he and the Doc Severin Band played "I've Got News For You", and that cinched the deal... I started buying Ray Charles CD's to catch up on what I was missing. Every few months I check youtube to see if this footage is posted... so far nothing. If anyone has this performance, could you please post it ? It's a killer !
Really great guitar playing! Great song, great man to back! When you stood up, I immediately thought of Tony Peluso standing up to do his thing on the Carpenters' "Goobye to Love."
Looks like a 345? Hard to see with the video quality, but really seriously nice playing Jeff. Ray's great too of course! I loved the summer jazz festivals I heard in my years in Switzerland. Thanks for sharing.
Jeff is probably old enough to remember the Flip Wilson show....there was a skit where Flip, as "Columbus", was trying to convince King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to finance his trip in search of America; the king and queen (both played by black people in the skit) remained stoic and unimpressed until Flip/Columbus said "if I don't find America, we won't have no Ray Charles". "What", says the queen, "no Ray Charles?", and she starts throwing her pearl necklace and jewels at him, yelling "go find Ray Charles! Find Ray Charles!"
You said before me met That your life was awful tame Well, I took you to a night club And the whole band knew your name. oh, Well, baby, baby, baby I've got news for you Oh, somehow your story don't ring true, Well, I've got news for you. Very nice. Edgar Winter and his group White Trash also do a great version of this tune, with Jerry LaCroix on vocals.
Totally agree.
That would make Ray smile

Now you have heard musical genius.

Wow, I didn't think anything could compete with the studio version of this song. But this is on fire. Ray's delivery is fantastic.
Im a 19 year old white male. And im in love with jazz. And im okay with that
Some great live versions from the early 60z
Thank you Joan!

For sure! He was THE BEST! Willie Nelson said that whenever musicians congregated and Ray was there the only competition was for #2!
Oh man, one a kind genius. That's what Im talkin bout. Never be another RAY.
This song is so fucking cool. These guys really rock it.
A true American icon and musical genius. Right up there with Mozart
To me - THE best rendition of this Ray Charles classic

Sir Peev..spectacular. So tasty. I don't have to teach blues guitar anymore. Just tell them to watch this. Come to West Virginia.

Amazing inspiration!

I love that video too but alas there was no “bakeage”!! We were high on the the music and the chemistry/friendship!!
