+gsdsteve His voice may not be of the highest quality, but oh...what he put into it just kills it! I never liked the song, 'Oh what a beautiful morning' until I heard Ray do it...I'll never hear that song the same way again!
I slept on him as a child, but his talent was just so sick. The way he played the piano and a great voice. The movie Ray really brought me to appreciate his talent. Rest in Peace, King!!!!
There will never be another ray charles no doubt. But to say there’s no good music anymore is just silly. We live in a time where there’s more available music than ever before. You just have to look harder. There is plenty of good music that’s being made.🤦🏻♂️
I was lucky; my mother played a lotta Ray Charles and other 40s / 50s Atlantic records artists who were all way b4 my time. I had more genuine music appreciation of the Blues & knowledge of those artists than my peers and their parents. Now I play that same music for my chil and grandchildren and they love it. Their peers gawk in awe when they see my stereo turn table and needle arm. But my descendants are familiar w it. They're familiar w Ray music!
The dirty little secret is that there are no female vocalists on the original record...Ray didn't like how they did it, so he did all the voices in falsetto.
Thanks Andranik ! the very first song that did something to me was Ray Charles " Hit the Road Jack" i was like 5 or 6 laying on the floor of my dad's Pontiac Star Chief driving up the road and we both were singing it as loud as we could and his nick name was "Jack"
@@jusnyvlem you’re wrong that really was Margie at 2:51. She does a lot of singing adlibs on live performances that only die hard Margie (like me) fans will catch. She has done the same thing on other live performances such as on You Are My Sunshine and What I’d Say.
19 people dont know great music.if humanity was to be judged on its accomplishments and whether they had made beautiful things, you would send the judge this song.we would pass judgement with flying colors.thanks ray for bringing soul to the masses
I'm reading "Brother Ray" by David Ritz at the moment. Great to see Ray live at his peak. The first artist I truly loved. Saw him in the 70's - magnificent!
I wish what's her name in the Raelettes hadn't got drunk so we could have had their vocals on the original recording of this song. Not that Ray did a bad job doing all the background vocals himself, but this just sounds amazing!
Reminds me of my uncle whom also is blind and can do everything just like Ray including woman and many kids......... Great man Ray was my uncle is just the same minus the drugs....
Last night you were dreaming and I heard you say, oh johnny and you know my name is ray!
That section gets me every time
Right lol something about that
Definitely made me go back and listen to the part before it.
Skip right to that part 😂
I no right
That piano intro 🔥🔥🔥. Get chills everytime
Incredibly done
Ray Charles at 30 yrs. old. Simply devastating!.. Nobody can touch his singing!!
Luther Vandross
+J Breezy nah. Luther had his way of doing things, but you're talking about a completely different class of singing.
+J Breezy Lol! One of them is a good singer, the other is an American musical icon!

I would argue that his voice is about the highest quality ever. Not only did Ray have perfect pitch but he could even scream on key, lol!
I slept on him as a child, but his talent was just so sick. The way he played the piano and a great voice. The movie Ray really brought me to appreciate his talent. Rest in Peace, King!!!!
If you said gospel, blues, and jazz was an atom, Ray Charles was the founder of the bomb
When my son saw this video he thought this was Jamie Fox. That's how good he played him.
Hell yea and they resemble alot also
@Domo Jones what else did they miss out in the story?
No one could of done it better. Jamie foxx captured his essence xx
Don't care
He was incredibly good at this
Now THIS is music. They don't make em like this anymore. So unfortunate.

Enjoying Ray's live performances. Great playlist. Thanks for posting.
Did you know that the song "I Believe" he recorded and overdubed all the background parts himself, don't believe do research and you will find it so.
Just great - and I love how someone whistles when he says "I think I'm gonna have to use my rod".
He slayed this song!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥😍

Bob Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man" owes a lot to this song.
before renaming it =-Dylan's working title was......"slow ballad in D"
Really?
I'm reading "Brother Ray" by David Ritz at the moment. Great to see Ray live at his peak. The first artist I truly loved. Saw him in the 70's - magnificent!
