I became a fan the first time I saw him play when he defeated Agassi when he was just 16/17. I remember thinking at the time this guy will be No.1 in the world one day little realising he would achieve this a few short years later. I could never understand why some of my fellow Australians especially the Australian press didn't like him much at that time. They didn't like his "come on" and thought he was a show off. Ridiculous really because he always spoke well of his opponents and was polite in interviews. Tall poppy syndrome was my explanation of his treatment here regardless of the fact that he was the youngest No.1 ever and stayed at the top for such a long time. He is one of my three favourite players of all time, the others being McEnroe and Kyrigos.

I must admit, for quite a few years I really hated Hewitt, the bitterness from him beating Henman in Wimbledon 2002 was just too much, particularly because Tim really should have won it the year before. However as time went on and especially now, I look back and really miss lleyton being on tour. Players like him, Henman, Roddick and Safin just don't exist in today's game.

Pat Rafter and Leyton Hewitt were 2 players I really enjoyed to watch. Im notmreally a Tennis fan but im Aussie and they got me watching tennis. Once these guys retired I've barely watched tennis much tennis, mainly because of players like Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrigos have given Australia a bad name and those guys are the opposite of Australian, because they show no heart.
I do like Alex the Demon, but he can't seem to live up to his potential and can't seem to go well in the big tournaments. Hopefully this year he can get to that next level

@Graham Swartwood No Pete Sampras or Andre Agassi... dude did you even watch tennis back then? Agassi ended 2001 at No. 3 and 2002 at No. 2 and was Hewitt's main rival during the time he was No. 1.
Hewitt was beating Sampras consistently since he was a teenager and Sampras was still a top 3 player. 7-5, 6-0 at the Masters Cup for example.
Love the crappy revisionist history that's pushed here and on forums by idiots.
