My husband and I love your videos! We talk about you and Mr. Bucky all the time. Thank you for passing on your cooking wisdom and your stories! We were very impressed with your pan flip!😲
Ms. Phyllis, my Daddy cooked can corn beef hash with a white gravy, onion and small cubed potatoes over rice or toast. It was one of my favorites. This was in the 50's and 60's, such great memories.
Hi phillis. I got a few meals from the 50s. I grew up mostly on goulash, fried potatoes, okra, cornbread and a juicy cantaloupe. We always had a good meal on the table. Your meals bring back a lot of memories. And watching u cook I have a good smellovision going on. Yum!
I am around their age and all of this is good old memories for me. I have a friend who is a chef from Egypt and last time he was over I made a complete 1960s American meal just so he could not out do me LOL. He kept raving about why he had never heard of any of this, he is a lot younger than me, finally I told him it was from the 60s and he thought it was brilliant, he is now doing reto with the help of some of my funky old cookbooks.
Billie994...'retro' cooking in the US depends on the territory. Each state has retro cooking. Ms. Phyllis from the south. However...your 'chef' friend should know this. East coast cooking...southern cooking...Texas style cooking...all different. Good for you learning. However. "Grandma cooking". THATS A WHOLE NEW BALL GAME!
Rose Tandy Why on earth would he know this if he's Egyptian? He's not necessarily old enough to remember the '60's either. Until the later part of the last century when package holidays became available to the average pocket. Cooking was much less global anyway. He would be unlikely to know much more than Burgers & Fries of US 'Cuisine'.
Mmmmm! Looks very good! I really like the molasses with the pat of butter for the biscuits! Ms Phyllis please keep in touch with all of us to let us know you and Mr. Buckey are ok with these terrible hurricanes coming. I'll be praying you both will stay safe and sound.
Ms.Phyllis,Thanks for reminding me of some real meals from back when my mommy was alive .When I watch your videos I feel a little closer to her she been gone 11 years and passed away at 66 .Thanks for the memories! All your food looks delicious
Using canned items is becoming a lost art as people today are spoiled at there are so many fresh ingredients available these days, but it takes a lot of finesing to turn canned elements into something not only edible but special like my Mom used to do during even the 70's. Thank you for sharing this with us.
In the 60s my mother used the old style canned bicuits to make surprisingly good drop donuts - like donut holes. Cut each raw biscuit in thirds, deep fry the pieces, and roll in sugar.
I'm with Mr. Bucky, I love canned corned beef hash, too! I like to cook medium wide egg noodles and put them in a buttered 9x13" baking dish. I saute onion (you can add chopped bell pepper if you want) and my corned beef until onion is tender. Stir in a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of milk. Mix together with the noodles, and top with bread crumbs. Bake at 350° until hot and bubbly, about 30 minutes. You can top with shredded cheese if you want. I hope you try it. Thanks for sharing! Take care and God bless! Hugggggs!
Miss Phyllis you do have a way in the kitchen. I love Corn Beef Hash usually with a couple of runny fried eggs, but I'm going to try this recipe. Keep up the great work.
oh yes! That is my favorite quick, easy but yummy meal. I love my hash with lots of crispy bits and 2 over easy fried eggs. Now I know of another way to use the hash!
Wow, Ms Phyllis you are on a roll here! Really loving all the nice videos you are taking the time to put out for us. Thank you so much. We have a large can of corned beef hash in the pantry gifted from when the in-laws moved to a care facility and now I know what to do with it. My mom never used it. I know hubby and I won't want to duplicate the canned peas but maybe with some home-canned green beans we can try this meal for ourselves.
I just started watching ur show and i love them. I wasn’t born until 1952. But i remember many of ur meals. Ur mom must have been born during the depression or lived through it. Keep them coming. Do we ever get to see ur husband.
So true! We had canned vegetables and canned fruit at every dinner meal. Sometimes the canned fruit had cottage cheese on it. There was always a simple salad, too. Usually with homemade thousand island (mayo, ketchup, and sweet relish). In Lent it was always fish sticks with tartar sauce (mayo and sweet relish). Simpler times.
Oh my goodness! I am drooling all over my shirt! I never would have thought to combine those things together. Mom never made anything like that but again like you said everything came out of a can. When I got married I moved to a country and that was the first time I was introduced two fresh vegetables and I could not believe the difference! Thanks for the nice video I will have to try that soon.
Brings back memories of having canned pilsburry croissants. Strangely enough I saw some canned cinnamon buns in the shop and I had to try them. Very nice too
Another great recipe that brought back memories of my Mom's cooking. Miss Phyllis, I love watching your videos because you help me to remember (and then of course to start cooking again) the very things I grew up on, but somehow have forgotten. Be safe and God Bless.
@@conniewilliams3644 That's how my mom used to make it....with a white sauce I think. I can't eat it anymore though....too salt sensitive. Of course, now it's all I'll think about. Darn.

How charming! This is a meal I had as a child! Thank you! Loved it then, love it now, and Love you and Mr. B! It is like a hug from the past! Wish you could write a book! I know it is a lot of work, but oh my how the world needs you! ♥️☺️🌞🕊🙏🏻
Biscuits, molasses, and butter... I have seen my parents eat that so many times. We didn't always have biscuits. They made something called "flour bread". You make it up similar to biscuits but you pat it out into a large circle in a greased cast iron pan. You cook that until it is browned on one side and then flip it and do the same for the other side. Then they cut it into wedges. Makes good sopping for "lasses" or honey!
Oh and Daddy did NOT like the canned biscuits way back then. He called them "whop'pums"; cause you had to whop the can on the counter to pop the can open ;)
My husband loves corned beef hash! We don't have it often. I'd love to try, fixing it like this though....a whole lot more interesting! Thanks Phyllis for sharing this 1950's recipe. I grew up in the 50's and I do remember a whole lot of our food coming from cans.
Great meal! I love corn beef hash. I tried those okra fritters, delicious. I modified it a bit. Instead of pureeing the okra, I rough chopped them and OH BOY DELICIOUS. TFS your great recipes.
Dear Phyllis, Just when I thought you had impressed me enough with all your skills - you flipped that sauté pan like only a professional could!!! Wow...

I also really enjoy these little trips down memory lane with you and all the canned and bottled foods that often don't exist anymore (or that we've all forgotten about). Thank you, so enjoyable! Yes, when you said you were going to flip the corn beef hash I did get nervous, but never lost confidence. Looked so good too. Thanks for sharing. Regards to Mr. Bucky !
Interesting meal. Looks very delicious. Those tiny peas are just the best. Mom only cooked roast beef hash on Saturday mornings with eggs, never as an evening meal. Growing up there were never fresh mushrooms available; all mushrooms mom used were canned and we loved them. Now my kids would revolt if I used anything other than fresh mushrooms; they even eat them as a snack food and sliced in their salads.😊 The canned biscuits have certainly improved since the 60’s. To me, the 60’s were a great time for my mom’s cooking. She was a fabulous chef! Thanks Colonel, for keeping this especially wonderful channel alive. Greetings from California.🇺🇸
I always find it amazing how..no matter your culture the meals we ate in the 50's n 60's...all dishes we ate were all so similar..I'm Hispanic .I remember my mama making so many dishes that you make!

Again, as always, Many Many Thanks to Colonel Steve Ritter for making it possible to spend time with his sweet momma again and again!😊❤🙋♀️
This looks yummy! I'm in my 20s but my parents were baby boomers so they cooked similar meals all the time. Your videos remind me of childhood dinners!
Miss Phyllis, I hope you & Mr. Bucky aren't in harms way of Hurricane Irma! I saw it will go to South Carolina & I immediately thought of you two! Please stay safe if you are in the path of this monstrous hurricane! God bless you both!
Please take care with hurricane IRMA coming. My grandma made corn beef hash many times I loved it. Thank you for sharing this with us. I had never seen this before it looks delicious. love as always
I think canned corn beef and LeSeuer peas have been around as long as I have. I remember these dinners in the 50's. Thanks for another good video. Looks like Irma's coming for supper monday here in middle Georgia. Everyone hunker down. The grocery stores here early this morning were very busy and lines of folks wanting to get gas has already started. Glad I got all my prep chores done. Friday will be chaotic. You and Mr. Buckybe safe in the days ahead. No fear here.
I love meals from the 50's and 60's. Do you remember warm or hot Dr. Pepper? From what I've researched it was apparently a semi-popular item in the 60's and/or 70's. Please stay safe through these hurricanes. Prayers to you!!
We ate a lot of can vegetables (peas, corn or carrots) in the 1960’s supper meals. My mama always fried chicken or pork chops and sometimes she would fix sauerkraut and wieners or meatloaf. We always had either mashed potatoes or fried potatoes with every meal! We would always have rolls or cornbread. Occasionally she would fix spaghetti and meatballs, homemade beef and vegetable soup or a big pot of pinto beans! My mama was a wonderful cook too!
Thank you so much! So yummy looking. I got my jarred mushrooms out of WalMart some time back, and I love them. To me, they don't taste so much like the can, for some reason. Ha! I love canned peas, but my husband doesn't so I never make them. I'll have to make the stroganoff!
Looks so delicious, as always!! I live in Puerto Rico, hurricane Irma passed through here on Wednesday and it was pretty scary, we still don't have power or running water. I hope you and Mr. Bucky, as well as everyone else in Irma's path, will stay safe. May God bless and keep you!! 🙏🏼
Ms. Phyllis, I'm sitting here in Florida listening to all the news about Hurricane Irma. I want you to know you've been up on my computer almost all day, as I'd cut off the sound on the TV and listen to your voice while I was working. You are quite comforting.

My Mom cooked this on Saturdays...pot of pinto beans (with some chili powder for flavor) and cornbread. Yum!
Awesome for a quick meal. Praying for the two of you through the storm. Stay safe may the Lord keep you.

Looks great, Phyllis! I love your 50s recipes (and all your recipes!). 😀 Stay safe during the hurricane; many people are thinking about you folks.
Yum! Looks great! I'll try this! And I love molasses and biscuits!!
Love your videos!!! Please be safe during this horrible storm.
Mrs. Phyllis, you flipped that hash like a true chef! You go girl!
Miss Phyllis, thank you for sharing. Looks delicious! Can't wait to give it a try. God Bless. 😊
I love Hash!! I bet this is amazing. I am gonna try it for a treat for the hubby. Thanks Phyllis
I want to make this but use it as a topping for lightly buttered noodles... thanks for all of the great videos!
This looks yummy! I'm in my 20s but my parents were baby boomers so they cooked similar meals all the time. Your videos remind me of childhood dinners!
I love corn beef hash! I make mine like my mom did. I add more potato, onion and on top a sunnyside up egg! Yum!
Miss Phyllis, I hope you & Mr. Bucky aren't in harms way of Hurricane Irma! I saw it will go to South Carolina & I immediately thought of you two! Please stay safe if you are in the path of this monstrous hurricane! God bless you both!
Keeping you and Mr. Bucky in my prayers.
prayers for all of you with Irma
We are sincerely praying for the hurricane to take a strong right turn back into the Atlantic Ocean.
LOOKS REALLY GOOD PHYLLIS.
I love frying corned beef hash and make over easy eggs for the top. Mid in the egg, a good amount of black pepper and yum!
I love meals from the 50's and 60's. Do you remember warm or hot Dr. Pepper? From what I've researched it was apparently a semi-popular item in the 60's and/or 70's. Please stay safe through these hurricanes. Prayers to you!!
Weirdly O.C.D. Dr. Pepper was trying to market their product for the winter months.
Never really knew anything about hot Dr. Pepper. Back then I always drank Pepsi because it was not as sweet as coke.
Weirdly O.C.D. I don't know why, but when I was a kid, we'd add salted peanuts to our coke or Pepsi. We'd drink and eat at the same time.
Remember 'Fizzies'? In a silly plastic bulb like thing ..mix any soda with ice cream. It was a 60's thing.
Scott Garb if you look up emmymadeinjapan. She actually tried that (: very interesting to see.
My mama was a wonderful cook too!
looks so good
I'm definitely going to try this!
Love your show, you fast forward, prepare a lot of ingredient off camera things go much faster keep up good works
Louise Ivey Hello. Did you know that Mrs. Phyllis passed away in January?
Great flipp Phyllis..that looks good.. Love peas..
Ms. Phyllis, I'm sitting here in Florida listening to all the news about Hurricane Irma. I want you to know you've been up on my computer almost all day, as I'd cut off the sound on the TV and listen to your voice while I was working. You are quite comforting.
Super out of the 1950’s! Luv it and you Miss Phyllis!
