I love your videos and was planning on doing some paint on my center console but just lost access to the garage. Do you have time to do a paint job for me? It's and 18' Seaswirl Striper that somebody painted with a brush and it looks like hell. I just want it sanded lsmooth and a glossy finish sprayed on. I'm in Va and can bring it to ya anytime you'd like. Please let me know. Thanks
Great job we need more people like you that would tell us the boat owners exactly what the boat needs instead of doing a basic work and then 3 years later or less problems star coming out on the paint. GREAT VIDEO
Love the whole transformation process. Anyone who knows anything about spraying black paint, it's all about the prep prior to actual paint that makes or breaks a project, and you my friend do it right! Looking forward to the next video.
Great to see you back buddy and still keeping up with the quality work, PLEASE keep them new videos coming as there's now over 5k followers 😀 👍 that have missed watching them too
Glad to see you back, I really look forward to watching your work. I have learned a lot. I just painted my 23 foot deep V Maxum. I tried the total boat with additive and rolled it. It came out great. Now I know for a fact you make it look easy. It was a shit load of sanding, plus I sanded the bottom and put 3 coats of barrier paint and 3 coats of bottom paint. Again glad to see you back.
Nice job Frankie. You make them video easy to understand and lapse them as it's quite the task to get the proper surface for a fine paint job. BOLO for the final paint - jet black gonna be sweet. Thanks
Being a fairly competent car painter, straight away I see the similarities in methodology and recognise someone who knows their craft. Learnt more from just a couple of these videos than the hours of amateur stuff posted up on the internet. If I have one contribution, its just that. Like auto painting, don't watch amateur videos, much of what they do is wrong, or certainly not best practice. Just watch professionals in action. Excellent videos, greatly appreciated.
Good to see you back! I cant think of anything worse than having to remove crazing. Have you ever tried a forced rotation DA? I have a few Bosch Get65-6n I think is the model, I also have a few Makita 6 Inch ones. I have my guys use the Bosch for 5 inch and 6 inch is the makita ones. I find using a fiber disc makes the glass to uneven (uspecially when you have newer guys do the shit work of removal. then you get more bubbles in your glass. I am also huge on dust collection in our shop and these 2 sanders have great dust collection! Not as fast as the grinder, but cleaner and nicer. because my shop is relatively small (3000 sq ft) and we don't have a paint booth so everytime I have to spray a full boat or a large area which is about all we do anymore, I don't want to have to spend hours vacuuming before I can spray. Gelcoat I don't clean as much for since I am going to wet sand the shit anyways, no worries if there is dirt nibs. I am in now way saying you are doing it wrong, I know you know what your doing, just offering advice is all. I am more of a gelcoat shop than an AkzoNobel shop like you guys seem to be. I want to transition into doing no gelcoat to be honest, can then use AwlFair, minimal wet sanding, and a lot more consistent finishes. Gelcoat is just so finniky when sprayed out of mold. I love your channel man, you are definetly the best boat painter I have seen on RUclips and you have a good way of explaining.
Hey Man! Great to see you back! I certainly wouldnt mind seeing some of that air filing/Long Board work. Any way. Loved the new video, Great to see you back on the RUclips! All The Best! Chuck
Buddy I own the same boat here in Miami . Its a 2000 but basically looks the same and I am ready to paint it awlgrip 2000 blue , after that I will be instaling triple Verado 300 Hp . I love the size and the width .
Not sure what you mean by uv primer. With these hull’s, there’s lots of flexibility. And the fact that it was clear coat over gelcoat that had painted stripes, it was bound to have issues. I am curious about this primer your talking about?,, but from my experience with boats, the only way to fix a series of cracks are close range together is to grind, remove all gelcoat and start from scratch. Keep in mind they are all cosmetic, nothing structural. But who wants to paint their boat and all these cracks show up a yr later?
Hi Frankie, nice video ,very informative ,nice technic. i m owner of boat shop in canada and i use awl grip and awlcraft 2000 and 2000se i would like to now if you alwais use awlcraft or sometime u use awlgrip or imron paint like formula ? wich one is the best from your opignon ? tanks for
Thx Eric! I use awlgrip, awlcraft and alexseal. I like all 3. I always use awlgrip for nonskid and sometimes I’ll paint the hulls with it but nowadays most customers prefer the acrylic urethanes because of repair ability (awlcraft and alexseal) overall, I prefer alexseal but most customers want awlcraft it seems. At least where I’m at.
pretty sure you are either a rep for Botecote, a bot or someone that has no clue about epoxy. You might yellow under paint, but West Systems is the best Epoxy Manufacturer in the industry. Also, how would anyone know if it did yellow?
Most epoxy resins yellow, as they don't have UV stabilisers in them. Surfboard resin won't. But in this purpose, yellowing is irrelevant. West system will do on a job like this and is generally known for use in boat yards . There are definitely better epoxy manufacturers. Peel ply should be used here, as it will allow to leave more product on the job. Also post cure the awlfair, H/B before sanding. This job here in black will definitely print through within a year.
Thx everyone!! I’m happy I’m back also. It’s been a crazy 8 months or so. Gonna try and get this channel going 👌👌

Good to see Frankie still making boats look purdy...I have a 91 Baja 260 that needs him!!!

Heyglad your back!!
Good morning, what happened to the rest of videos, competing the Ferro yacht. Cheers
Have you tried experimenting with UV primers to fill the cracks?
Not sure what you mean by uv primer. With these hull’s, there’s lots of flexibility. And the fact that it was clear coat over gelcoat that had painted stripes, it was bound to have issues. Good 👍👍
Were the ‘Pink polka dots’ not osmosis?
No. That is awlfair and what I prefer to use for filling and glazing nicks, gouges, voids etc before priming 👌
That is a strange hull look kind of like a sailboat from the front or a little dated compared to modern boats
A good idea, paint a boat black so in the hot sun it heats up the fiberglass and the interior, a loser for both
I heard West System yellows even under paint, whereas Botecote don’t… just saying!
Yeah, I think you heard wrong. Lol
