Every Afrikan nation must make it a priority to change all the European names of towns, cities, rivers, and waterfalls. We must undertake this psychological exercise in order to prepare ourselves, towards our prospective unification.
As an African American I want to move to Africa. Preferably west Africa. I was looking into Nigeria. Yes it’s very popular and a lot of places there remind me of the African American communities. But it’s so crowded. Next I’ve been looking into 🇬🇭 Ghana. I’m really really feeling Ghana. A peaceful country. Very beautiful women and a country whose economy is rising. I just want to be close to my people. Don’t get me wrong I love my people here in the states but to be around a black majority and everything else is the minority will be beautiful. I’m still young and would rather live the rest of my life and be buried In the mother land. My bloodline comes from west Africa. I’m going to do a dna test to see what tribes I come from. My grandma claims we descended from the Ashanti and Mende. And my dad side one of my aunties did a test she came bk Fulani and Yoruba. I was shocked. I think Mende tribe comes from Sierra Leone 🇸🇱. Just letting you guys know I love you all. No matter the past I know who my people are and proud of it.

As one of the historians mentioned, slavery continues after 1807 until 1830. However, the British and the American navies were patrolling the seas to arrest illegal slaves traders. When illegal slaves ships 🚢 were arrested by British or American navies instead of taking the slaves back to their native lands like Senegal 🇸🇳 or Gambia 🇬🇲 , slaves were transported to Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 if captured by British or Liberia 🇱🇷 if captured by American. This is one of the reasons the Mandingo or Mandinka tribe is spread out all over West Africa. This is my opinion based on many readings and observations from many documentaries on history on many African countries. I truly enjoyed this documentary and thanks to those who made it possible. Not forget to mention, Sierra Leone was purchased by the British to return free British slaves back to Africa, so as Liberia was purchased by the American to return free American slaves who wanted to return to Africa.
It's a part of british history I am very proud of, while yes we engaged in slavery like every other country, it was my countrymen who decided to end the chain of slavery and fought all around the world to end the slave trade, I am proud of my ancestors in that regard, who fought and died to free enslaved people all around the world. The casualty rate of sailors in the west african squadron was over 50% and these sailors were comprised of volunteers who signed up willingly to stop the practice of slavery. Gambian people are lovely people from what I've experienced.
Viva Gambia. May God shine on this little country. May all its children prosper, have enough to eat, decent shelter, a job they love and education for their babies and may they elect freely ah honest government who will not be bought by the U.S. or Israel, nor with they succumb to their manipulations or threats, Amen.

Came across this because wanted to know more about The Gambia seeing that the AU is sitting this April. Also it was inspired by the "now termed Afrophobia" attacks happening in South Africa that have left the rest of Africa in shocked and pleading for South African to stop attacking other africans that have seeked refuge and started new lives. # No to Afrophobia
As a person, born on a Caribbean island and whose ancestors were captured from Africa and enslaved on this very island, I watch this documentary with rather mixed feelings.

If you do not mind me to say, this country is not called Gambia. This country is called THE GAMBIA. This is firmly stated on the country's constitution. Even the University of The Gambia is also known as UTG. The word "THE" cannot be missed. Also, the President of the country repeatedly mentions that the country is named THE GAMBIA on international conferences.
What is the origin of the word Gambia? It's meaning? And it's linguistic root? What was the name of the region before any European set foot there? I like the 5th century for e.g. pre outside religions their names customs and all their Bull shyt
@@skylabx2000 the country was part of an ancient empire The manding Mali empire, the word Gambia came from Kambia a Mandingo word which means the river .
The Portuguese who first explored the region named it after The River Gambia. In Portuguese, A Gambia (hence the article before the name). Thus, the British who took over kept that name in the English Form, The Gambia. However, I personally wish a leader would come and just change it simply to Gambia. Why put an article before the name of a country?

Great documentary! I really enjoyed the Cora players very nice singing even though I do not understand what they are singing about - I'd love to have the integrality of their songs, specially the Kunta Kinte song - beautiful!
If you would loved to visit someday I can be a help, I'll link you to hotels, restaurants, people, music and I can even get you an apartment if you would prefer to live amongst the people, I'll tell you how much you will need . My FB name is similar to my RUclips account . Jst send a request then get acquainted.
I have watched this documentary several times, every time I watch it, it gives me pride of my lineage. Thank you. When I retire, I hope to learn to play the kora.

Hi Nice love Jus Tice tanks Family Love Gambia 😀✌️❤️

As a person, born on a Caribbean island and whose ancestors were captured from Africa and enslaved on this very island, I watch this documentary with rather mixed feelings.
We had othing to do with the evils of the pass, but do not repeat.

@@chronicawareness9986 You must be stupid to think leaving your poor barren continent and taking over someone else's is a normal thing you descendant of cave-dwelling hybrids parading themselves as human beings.

GOD'S people are peace loving and committed to preserve the earth and GOD-given resources (to last forever).
Others seek to take what is NOT theirs to take , destroy, then move on to conquer and destroy the ecos of other thriving lands.

Home sweet home gambia 🇬🇲 the smiling coast of Africa, and much love to the whole world 🌏
If you do not mind me to say, this country is not called Gambia. This country is called THE GAMBIA. This is firmly stated on the country's constitution. Even the University of The Gambia is also known as UTG. The word "THE" cannot be missed. Also, the President of the country repeatedly mentions that the country is named THE GAMBIA on international conferences.
Without the article 'The", Gambia would be referring to the river and not the country. I think.
Thanks for the correction.
Why put an article before the name of a country?
wonderful video I love the Gambia
