  • My top tips to help a blocked nose at night.
    1. Don't Eat 2 hours before bed (best tip ever!). There are so many foods and drinks that cause inflammation and mucus production. It's out of control
    2. Only drink water before bed
    3. A nice hot shower and a nasal rinse will do wonders
    4. Keep your head elevated a little to help the mucus drain
    5. If you're using a cpap machine increase the heated tube and humidifier.
    6. If you're not, look at buying a room humidifier
    Cheers kids

Great info. And, household dust allergy for me. Determined by ENT testing & diagnosis. Nasal rinse every night before bed, hepa air filtration and hypoallergenic bedding washed every few days. And, don't 'make the bed!' CPAP actually helped reduce allergic reaction, especially with hypoallergenic filters. CPAP humidifier keeps sinuses moist and less irritated.

Pinch your nose, shut your mouth so you can't breathe and start nodding for about 20 seconds.
    (It works!) You're welcome folks.

After years of suffering nighttime congestion, I finally saw an ENT about 5 years ago.
Was diagnosed with enlarged nasal turbinates and had surgery to bring them to normal size. So thankful I sought medical help.
My symptoms were exactly what's described. Perfectly fine during the day when upright, the second I laid down, couldn't breath well through my nose. Nothing worked, steroid sprays l, humidifiers, neti pots, etc... Afrin was the only thing, but because of REBOUND, NOT a good solution. Can only use it 2-3 days before it would make congestion worse!
Please see an ENT if Nico's tips don't help

Thanks for a great video! But, I think there are two things that are also relevant. The nasal passages have anatomical structures that swell and shrink throughout the day, usually in cycles...and often in an alternating way. BTW, they do react to positional changes and BP changes caused by laying down. There are a few factors that can impact their cycles. I find alcohol is one. Anyway, the 2nd factor is breathe right strips. I put one on, and it really seems to help with the air restriction in the nose. (although you have to be careful taking them off because they can cause mild skin damage and leave behind a sticky residue that can clog pores. FYI.

My ENT says I have slight deviation and a bony protuberance, but won't do anything about it, presumably because it doesn't cause me trouble during the day. But is this just going to get worse as I age due to growing cartilage?

    • @kazman_6899
      @kazman_6899 10 месяцев назад

Not necessarily. If it does, couldn't you just do something about it then?

The older I get, the more reluctant doctors are to administer general anesthesia, especially with OSA. I consider this a critical quality of life issue, but I don't see the same level of consideration on their part, and I worry that they'll say I'm too old to take the risk at the very moment that I really need it.

@@Jeremiah.Bartholomew I mean, they'd perform a septoplasty. They can do this at any age. Whether it helps with sleep apnea, I don't know. People would get it done if one or both of their nostrils are blocked. Please be careful about Empty Nose Syndrome. Don't let them touch the turbinates. You also don't want them cutting through the mucosa or nerves in general.
