    Hey guys,
    Never commented before but I just wanted to say a few things.
    My mum has one of these halogens and she bakes amazing cakes in it. She uses a normal sponge recipe and just due to playing around with timings and temperatures shes got it "Sorted".
    Also if you use enamel dishes in the halogen they cook sausages/fishfingers etc etc a lot better. They are more evenly cooked and they brown better.
    Also you can do brilliant roasties in a halogen with a lot less oil than you would do normally, just preheat the tray as normal and shove the spuds in.
    Baked potatoes work really well in the halogen as well.
    This gadget does have its uses I promise and as ovens over here in Malta are a little temperamental (eg two temperature settings: on and off 🤦‍♀️) the halogen is a great substitute. Please dony write it off just yet!!
    All the best and stay safe guys x

    My husband and I used to have one of those (not the specific brand) when we first moved in together and couldn't afford a proper oven. We called it "the bug" because the top looked like a bug's head to me :P. It kept us fed for several years. We never attempted to deep fry anything since we don't really eat deep fried stuff anyway. But it's definitely convenient and ideal for students.

    I’ve been rocking an airfryer for years now and I find the best chips are preboiled, tossed in a little oil, herbs spices etc then put in the airfryer. The fluffy bits on the edges get so crispy and the insides are stay light and fluffy. If you can’t be bothered with the extra cooking step, add a light dusting of any kind of flour and that will help them crisp up too.

    When these things first appeared (in this form) they were marketed as 'halogen ovens', the air fryer is a change in marketing to appeal to the healthier eating crowd. My mum has had one of these for about 10 years now and she loves it. She lives on her own and so is usually cooking for one, and this is quicker and easier for her than the oven.
    It's great for sausages and chicken, it's also great for warming things up (reheated pizza works a treat in this).
    They're not for everyone and of course a chef is going to achieve far more with a proper oven and hob, but you're definitely not the target market for this thing. They're far from perfect of course, but my mum gets a lot of use from hers.

    Also, my friends have an air fryer, although it's different than this one, and we have found through lots of experimenting that the thing it's best for are frozen junk food things (fries, chicken nuggets, premade burritos), which do come out more crispy like they've been fried rather than baked. Fresh things don't seem to work as well.

    We have had this in our homes for years and years and recommended it to everyone! We use it to make crispy potatoes and baked chicken. We also use it to bake breads in the morning so we do not have to heat up an oven. Just throw em in there and have baked breads in less than 10 minutes. We also use it for pizza, especially heating up leftover pizza. It is literally amazing for all kinds of stuff! It is a healthier option of baking a lot of stuff that would otherwise get drowned in oils or butter in a pan.

    I’ve had an air fryer for a few years and it’s great for anything I’d do in the oven - heats a lot quicker, cooks a bit quicker. It’s not a fryer, it’s a convection oven in the shape of a fryer, to encourage less deep frying. At least that’s how I see mine.

    I have one of these, and I use it a LOT. But almost exclusively as a replacement as an oven, rather than as a fryer. I live in a fairly warm climate, and I love the fact that I can load it up in the kitchen, then take it out on the patio to run, so I get baked food without heating up my home by using the oven. There are some things that a standard oven does better, but for cooking small amounts of something, for baking without heating up the house, or when I need to bake at two different temperatures (One in the standard oven, one in the counter-top) it's hard to beat.

      It's not an air fryer and that's why it doesn't work well as an air fryer. It's a halogen oven. Most air fryers cook in a much smaller space, so that the air gets superheated. Anything needing frying needs oil, and those chips didn't have enough. Even in air fryers you need a tablespoon or two of oil. These guys didn't use it as it should be used.

    • @RAD6150

      They followed the directions as they were doing it... it is called, by the manufacturer, a "halogen air fryer." I have seen many sized air fryers that all work better than that one. And if you look at the fries in the basket, they are covered in oil. No matter what they did, that steak was not going to have maillard browning without overcooking. At 5:37 both gave a very good summary of the device...

    These things are great, and experience would have helped these guys get better results.

    I have one of these and like it very much for certain things, especially chicken and sausage with veg underneath catching the drippings. There are good reasons for some people to use these, and if you'd focused on those instead of how much "better" food comes out of a full oven or deep fryer your review would have been more useful. Even better would be a comparison of the glass halogen oven with a basketed air fryer, the newish air fryer/convection toaster oven, and multi-use Ninja Foodi or Instant Pot with a/f lid. A challenge with each mate turning out something good from one of these would be interesting and fun.

    I have one and cook most of my food in it. Kale chips, sausages, fish in foil, oven chips etc etc. I have never steamed veggies in it, but sounds good..Much quicker than a regular oven and given that today we are facing an energy crisis, I'm glad I've got this. Never used my big oven [I'm in a rented studio] Can roast chicken pieces in it, but use my small countertop oven for a bigger chicken. With energy hikes I'll be roasting skin in my halogen oven and cooking the chicken in a pressure cooker. My cooking has changed since the energy hikes.

    • @clg850b
      @clg850b 2 года назад

      Just ordered one today as it's much more economical than using the main ovens. Like the idea of pressure cooking the skinned chicken and then crisping the skin in the halogen oven, will definitely try that.

    My husband and I have something called a Power Air Fryer Pro Plus-- lots of words that make it sound gimmicky but it works! We found it on sale one day and gave it a go. It's a convection oven, air fryer, dehydrator, rotisserie, and has a few other settings. It also comes with racks, a cylindrical fry basket that works on the rotisserie setting, rotisserie rod and skewers for kabobs. The meats are always cooked perfectly, juicy on the inside with good coloring/crust on the outside and have even gotten the grill/sear marks from the racks. It typically takes about 25-30 minutes for meats(depending on what you cook, a pork or beef roast might take about 40), about 10 minutes for fries and then 7-10 for things like chicken nuggets or smaller pieces of meat. A pizza typically takes around 7-10 minutes and the crust is always crispy. Jerky came out like jerky lol. My only complaint is the drip tray should be deeper because even with lining with foil, it's tricky to clean it without making a mess, but a quick remedy was using a small baking/cake pan to catch it.

  • @Fangejt
    @Fangejt 5 лет назад +1

    Ben summed up its function very well, not a fryer, more of an hot air oven. Here in Czech republic, the very same machine is sold as a convection oven. I´ve had one for years and it has served me as a great replacement for a microwave oven, which Im not keen on using. I tend to use it for heating up smaller amounts of food, keeping certain parts of a more complex meal warm until i finish the rest. For example keeping my chips crsipy when I´ve cooked them a bit earlier than the protein. Thanks to its small volume, it heats up quickly, unlike my old gas oven, which takes good 15 minutes. Oh and it was super cheap - like 35 pounds.

    I have one although from a different company. I had one before but it died after a long and very useful life. I have two extension rings now, which means I can do bigger things (baking cakes for one) in it. If you're on your own it's a good-sized little oven - which doesn't need long to preheat. You do have to be careful when removing things though (especially if you don't remove the extension ring first.....) as the faint scars on the inside of both forearms proves :) I have never regretted buying mine

  • @thespirituk

    I’ve had one of these just over ten years. I bought it just to give me an extra cooking option and found it so useful I’ve never used my actual oven since. I do everything I would have normally done in my standard oven quicker and with much better results. I guess it’s each to their own but it does take a little getting used to at first.

  • @NoBuddy89

    Impressive... that thing looks fancy and a step up from my "normal" air fryer. I have a rather cheap one from Philips and I can assure you that all the complaints you had, it fixes for me :S Steak gets a crust, potatoes get a nice crunch, that fish would've been nicely golden etc.
    And no need to pre-heat, I use it when I'm only making food for myself or dont have time to preheat my normal oven. And it's super fast and gives consistent color, texture and cooking every time.
    I really think you should put a more conventional air fryer through the ringer, because this one seems very gimmicky.
    And a further note, I use absolutely no added oil when I use my air fryer, the only exception I sometimes make if I get unusually starchy potatoes, then it needs some not to stick to the grill.

      i love mine, but think of it more as a convection oven than air fryer. It's excellent for roasting. I like how I can do a whole meal in it without dirtying a bunch of pans. I do find regular air fryers might give you a crispier exterior but they also dry the interior and don't taste like deep fried. The halogen ones leave you with a juicier inside and you can fit much more inside. You could as easily cook for one or up to 6 people and a great tool if you don't have the space for an oven.

    I had the same device but it was marketed as a convection oven. The light can get annoying if it's dark in the room but in a well lit room it's not too bad. It works well for anything you would use a normal oven for.
