What a great presentation of a time gone by, I don't mean Mr. White will be leaving us anytime soon but his man did all his own work, for the most part. This is very rare these days and let us not forget, this man drove the same rig for 30+ years! He did not go out and buy a new one every 3 years like they suggest today. This time period when men, and woman, worked for a living, not just drove a truck. God bless Mr. White
That's one of the best I've seen in a long time. I remember my Father telling me about putting new main bearings in a truck next to the PA Turnpike back in the 50's. Thanks for the memories.
Im 44, i live in WA. and my first truck i purchased was a 1978 k100 that I still own although its also bin retired. I retired mine a year and a half ago. Mine was a mule train, cummins big cam 3 400 18 spd with 8 axles between the truck and trailer. I miss the old girl! i understand the work and solute the hard work you have done.
Great to see you've kept the ole girl, I know there frustrating at times to keep running but keep the history going for the next generation, I just came in for a break from rewiring turn signals on my 48 kw today when I found your video...thanks for sharing
I found this I was telling my daughter about my dad and the cab over Kenworth he had when I was born and the 1st time I went with him when I was 3 years old That's a nice old truck!! Thanks for making the video!!!
That Dinasour at the beginning was my daughters favorite place to layover at Cabazon we use to park in the back till that blocked it off carb is a freaking joke I drove over 40 yrs I've probably seen you on the road I had a brand new 1978 Pete I bought in 79
Hey. Not a bad old truck. Still look and sound well. And we are about the same age. I think your truck is hanging on better than I do. Thanks for sharing.
Badass ole kwooper what a distinct look. I think I remember seeing it around the steel houses around Emeryville , west Oakland Ryerson and Jorgensen and Pacific Pipe. That wheelbase must of got a lot of extra loads of rebar, pipe and trusses and such. Even if It doesn't work anymore glad to see it gets out to run once in a while. A true piece of California history. I used to work for Moore truck lines.
It's a shame Commifornia won't let stuff like this work anymore, but at least it's still on the road and kept in good working order. I hope you guys keep running for another million miles.
I can relate to your 'on the spot' clutch repair. I once had to change the clutch lining in my old Hanson 35 dragline right on the beach during one of my steel seawall jobs.
Damn Nice truck. This brought back some Great memories. I was Cussin back then, But now looking back, it wasn't so bad after all:~) That's a Simple clutch:~) Sure beats the Crap you have to do now to change out Anything in the clutch.
Beautiful. That's quite an impressive rig, it's a real shame that you can't drive it anymore. I've always thought that kenworth made the nicest looking cabovers and half-cabs, but otherwise I like a good ol' bulldog mack. (With a can on the back ;)
Last truck I drove commercially was a 1970 KW Cab Over. It sold on to a new owner for $10K two years ago. Cali will let you drive it. Either limited time/miles, or swap in a Tier III or IV engine.
You and your smokin chokin tree pruner are a menace to society... Just kidding ha ha ! I loved your truck and your history with it. So glad your son loves her like you do. Seems like she will be in good hands. Keep her in the wind !
Shame the insane state of California won't let you run her anymore. Looks like she's still capable of a hard days work. But then again, that old road warrior has more than earned a retirement.
I love old trucks that are pre emissions. The new emission engines still don't have all the kinks worked out yet. The government is killing the trucking industry. Awesome video
Love the classic cabovers. Hope to find and restore one soon. What is the reason for the long frame? Alot of California trucks have huge wheelbases. Just not sure why. Thanks for the video.
can you still use it as a toy,or a drive once in a while, without California emissions? i love it,its a shame they dont let you run it commercially anymore.i think its fantastic.
turbo14..pretty sure he replaced the engine at some point, said the motor has a million plus on it, truck has 4 million. You are correct, in 1960 there was no big cam 400.
@@bryanmoffett1917 In 1960 there was no Big Cam anything. Big Cam came along about the time they started building 350s. The increased amount of fuel being injected was hard on the cam's injector lobes and cam bearings
I know for a fact..whatever he said on the video is truth!!!! If u have a question...just ask him! He'll clear you of any doubts and or curiosities. No reason for all the speculation. Have a great day folks😁
Joe That's a dang shame they won't let ya ride with er' no more. Being that far north You remember a fella by the name Sidney Edmund Kelly They called him " Red " He drove west coast from 1938 to 1999
Some things don't sound d right,it was parked in 1999 cause California won't let him run it? The carb regs didn't hit till years later and he says it's factory specs but the wheelbase is really long especially considering being made in 1960 as tight as the overall length where back then
Back in the day west coast cabovers where common with long wheelbase like that. It was required for the state bridge formula to spread the weight out. Lots had drom decks, or boxes mounted behind the cab. He said he bought it with a million miles on it, so the original engine would have been upgraded to the 400 prior to that. NTA 400 's came out in the late 60's. They where recognizable by their remote mount water pump and crazy coolant plumbing. They never had this model of cab in Canada as far as I know. We had the 523 " Canadian " Kenworth. I recall seeing one of there when I was unloading meat in Beloit WI. in the 70's. They whole truck belonged in a junkyard, but given the old broke down cowboy diving it with his dirty old dog, and 40ft reefer the whole thing just deserved to have its place in the sun. It had a Cummins NT 260 pancake engine. ( turned on its side mounted below the chassis, back behind the cab. This tells me the truck may have originally been spect with a drom box. The engine had chains belly rapped around the engine ! I suspect the engine mounts where worn out, and he didn't trust them. I can't imagine this truck having crossed a scale in years.
That motor cant be factory they didnt have 400 anything in the 60s who put the motor you or the previouse owner nice truck im in california and CARB is a joke
4000000 miles! owned that truck for 45 years wow!! amazing stuff. now thats a real truck and a real truck driver!
What a great presentation of a time gone by, I don't mean Mr. White will be leaving us anytime soon but his man did all his own work, for the most part. Good luck Joe on your retirement! It was good working and running with you for twenty plus years.
I heard hes headed to North Carolina
That's one of the best I've seen in a long time. I remember my Father telling me about putting new main bearings in a truck next to the PA Turnpike back in the 50's. Thanks for the memories.
This is a love story, thanks for sharing. One day I'd like to get an old cabover to haul my race car, just because they're so cool.
We really love the ol truck, he is part of the family.
Im 44, i live in WA. and my first truck i purchased was a 1978 k100 that I still own although its also bin retired. I retired mine a year and a half ago. Now that's what you call OLD SCHOOL TRUCKING..
Looks great...
Badass ole kwooper what a distinct look. I think I remember seeing it around the steel houses around Emeryville , west Oakland Ryerson and Jorgensen and Pacific Pipe. this is probably the truck you're thinking about. It was Airway green when we got in it '70. its brown over 30 years now.
Met joe past Saturday in Greensboro NC at a truck show awesome guy, looking forward to going to shows out this way
y'all made me cry. My Pop drove one like that. Well several actually as he drove for several companies
It's a shame Commifornia won't let stuff like this work anymore, but at least it's still on the road and kept in good working order. I hope you guys keep running for another million miles.
Haha. No offense, but California wont let alot of nothing cause everything causes cancer there.
Thank you to my brother-in-law Mike and my sister Venus for the editing.
Amazing gear box. My uncle had one in Iran back in 80's
I can relate to your 'on the spot' clutch repair. I once had to change the clutch lining in my old Hanson 35 dragline right on the beach during one of my steel seawall jobs.
You still have her? She's amazing thanks so much for sharing this with us ❤❤🏦❤
I like the look of your KW, thanks for sharing Joe.
Damn Nice truck. This brought back some Great memories. I was Cussin back then, But now looking back, it wasn't so bad after all:~) That's a Simple clutch:~) Sure beats the Crap you have to do now to change out Anything in the clutch.
Awesome Video Luv the truck Great Work White Family
Thanks for sharing. What a great story and awesome truck. Too bad Cali shut her down =(
Fantastic truck . Glad you kept it. Time to move to another state and run it again.
Beautiful. That's quite an impressive rig, it's a real shame that you can't drive it anymore. I've always thought that kenworth made the nicest looking cabovers and half-cabs, but otherwise I like a good ol' bulldog mack. (With a can on the back ;)

Id like to know what the W.B. is on that.
You and your smokin chokin tree pruner are a menace to society... Just kidding ha ha ! I loved your truck and your history with it. So glad your son loves her like you do. Seems like she will be in good hands. Keep her in the wind !
It was good to see you and Edwin uncle Joe.
Shame the insane state of California won't let you run her anymore. Looks like she's still capable of a hard days work. But then again, that old road warrior has more than earned a retirement.
glad i’m not the only one that has an older truck sitting and waiting
thanks for sharing and keep the shiney side up.
Great video. The way life used to be when the world was a better place and people had intelligence.
Lotta years in that ol girl, thanks buddy
that truck is great condition for its age keep that truck for shows it is a true blue rig
Lovin' it ..... I'm kind of a '1960' Kenworth myself .......
Keep it going...
Love that ol iron
Awesome video man! Keep her going brotha! Hopefully I’ll see ya out on the boulevard!
Beautiful Cab Over..
That rig scared a lot of power lines... and that tree!
WillyB
WOW, immensely impressive!
now that's one enormous transmission
You should still run it, just keep it on the down low as much as possible, that’s what I would do and I’m not scared to say it
I love old trucks that are pre emissions. The new emission engines still don't have all the kinks worked out yet. The government is killing the trucking industry. Awesome video
There nothing better for someone how is so home sick as to see. One of the best video on youtube. Miss all of you so much.
Man that truck is awesome
cool cab over.
Love the classic cabovers. Hope to find and restore one soon. What is the reason for the long frame? Alot of California trucks have huge wheelbases. Just not sure why. Thanks for the video.
very impressive; well kept
Awesome video beautiful kW
can you still use it as a toy,or a drive once in a while, without California emissions? i love it,its a shame they dont let you run it commercially anymore.i think its fantastic.
how many engines have been in her and what were they?
You sure don't see many cab-overs here in the USA but watching RUclips videos it looks loke their still plenty popular in Europe and Australia.
time to leave California There is no reason that truck can not be on the road safely!
That's just what I was thinking . love it
Nice cab over Great History
Shes a beauty
a flap went out, a clutch part too, then they didn't go to the truck show, we can tell that it's a very bad day 😅
Awesome rig mate 🇭🇲🇭🇲
What does CA have against older trucks? Emissions?
Awesome truck and operator. What was the long wheelbase for? Or was it built as a flatbed?
Sucks you can't drive it. My dream someday is to get a 70s tractor trailer and drive it.
Have a kw and trailer for sale
No way that is a 400hp 855 big cam in 1960. Still an amazing old truck regardless.

They called him " Red "
He drove west coast from 1938 to 1999
cool ole truck
California is going to the down fall of the trucking industry. if that is the factory engine it is not a 400 it should be a 220,250,or 262
ALLEN SKIPWORTH could be a 270
that swop was a very common conversion since the where all but identical in hookup and mounting
Man prune those trees. That pretty old lady dont need to be hitting branches
Pretty impressive
very cool

True but maybe it started out as a flat bed and got converted to run trailers in the late 60's
I'm not criticizing him but I agree...... also the 400 Cummins didn't come out till the early 70s

Any questions...just ask joe!!! Hello people!!!!
I cut my teeth on old 2 stickers like this...
🙌💯👍🤠
Beautiful ol lady. Have you ever overhauled the engine? I mean, it has 4 million miles. Fuck the EPA.
Brilliant!!!😎👍
Same engine? No rebuild? Amazing truck.
Of cores it is not the original engine there was no such thing as a 400 Cummins 1960!
Carb and California is a joke I had a 1978 peterbuilt cabover KT600 cummins they won't alow driving in California it's a better truck than any new one
Bring it to Hawaii we don't have the California Clean Air Act
LONG BOI

That is a good video best I have seen on this rat youtube
