1:25 "Hello everyone Officer Farket here and today I will be ticketing some hooligans."
Making a full-scale game is certainly an undertaking. Just remember that you can always iterate, but don't lose sight of the goal. Even if you restart it entirely, you still have everything you've learned as a head start up the mountain. Good luck, Farket :)
Bro literally said fuck it, I’ll do it myself. Hahaha
"Farket, I'll do it myself"
Farkos was right!
They don't call him Farket for nothing!
There comes a time when men must.
Farket became a box of surprises after quitting Sons of The Forest forever, he's on his character development arc now, first Minecraft, then making a game.
Anyway, you'll have my full support, if it makes you happy and it's practically free, I see no reason not to.
Professional game dev here. I've been shipping games since 1996. There is a TON of stuff to know: Gameplay, UI, Physics, Rendering, Networking.
1. Use an engine (UE, Unity, Godot, etc.)
2. Prototype! If a game with placeholder art isn't fun, then a game with final art won't be either.
3. Keep the focus small
4. Iterate, Iterate, Iterate.
5. Polish, polish, polish.
Good luck! Feel free to reach out to me if you want more free game dev tips.
You forgot the part were you apply for a grant lol.
You said so much and so little.
Not sure what being Polish has to do with game development
why are yall hating? this is sound advice
first step is creating GDD and then proceeding with game development
Sons of the Farket
lol
you have my full support if or when you release anything. this is a really smart move and I look forward to seeing what you do. best of luck, Farket
Huge undertaking big fella, good luck. I've been solo developing an open-world, bushcraft survival game for 3 years now in UE and I'm only just starting to think about making the teaser trailer and doing the reveal. 8-18hrs work minimum every day for 3 years, if you can get others on board to help speed things up I'd recommend it. Keep us updated.
What is your job that you have enough time for that?
@@kraccbaccoriginal So I'm a drainlayer by trade, running a business so I can choose my hours. I take at least 2-3 workdays off a week for the game and spend weekends on it too. So on a day I do my actual job i'll only get 8-10 hours or so in but on a day when im not working I usually do 16-18 hours. When I first started I was stuck in a covid lockdown so was doing 20 hours a day for a few months while I was learning UE. It was like a fever dream.
@officialauspecs1285 do you have a red bull IV hooked up to your arm? Humans need sleep my dude
@@kennybevan11 it was definitely not great for my health. That's for sure.
I'm excited to see what you make man!
I personally cannot wait to see where this takes you. I've always appreciated your vision of how The Forest works and how it could be improved. I think if you can fine-tune your craft you have the mind to make an amazing game. Can't wait to see where this takes us! Thanks for making us a part of your journey
Mist survival was one dev, for years. You can def do it and we'd all love to see the progress! Actually a brilliant idea for a series i think would be fascinating to see the game develop! Ive been learning japanese for the last year and its soooo hard when you first start but there's a tipping pouint when suddenly yoiu cans tart building on the basics. Do it!!
Mist survival utterly ruined by the single dev. The game was good fun but now utter garbage. So many games ruined later on by devs with zero clue.
I remember the guy who made a zombie shooter within a week - the project is free at Steam, but I can not remember it`s name. I think Farket made a video about it a while ago.
@@cutterbacon this isnt about whether mist is any good though is it? its about whether farket COULD make a game on his own and that is the proof.
@@AIKIDOSILVERDALE He could make a game sure but my point is dont follow so many other devs failures by not listening to your player base.
@@cutterbacon Still unclear what your point is? Are you speaking on behalf of farkets player base and saying he shouldnt make a game? if so, where does this data come from?
U really seem like a wise, kind, inspiring man hope we can be updated on your game dev journey. That really seems like something intresting to see tbh like going from 0 knowledge about something to creating a whole game is pretty crazy.
Proud of you brother. Keep at it. We need devs like you.
This is so cool. GL on your game dev journey! If you dont want to deal with publishers and stuff doing videos about the game dev is always an option. Hopefully a good one cause I like your videos and game dev
If you do this Farket it really could be a new chapter of life and very fun! So if you want go for it! We will still watch! 👍
Incredible we have a dev at work that is doing something similar and he has the same attitude as you. A real "go-getter" and someone I admire a lot. Keep up the good work and most of all, enjoy what you do.
I am so happy to see this!!! Good onya mate ! I rekn ya gonna nail this!👍
I love that you didn’t just stop uploading completely when you found out RUclips isn’t THE thing for you anymore. You tell us about it, and let us join you on your journey and development, and at least for me, that freedom and switching to whatever you feel like is somewhat inspiring, so… thank you I guess, for teaching me a bit
Duuude. This is so cool. I' m learning unity too right now. I've been watching your forest videos and played the forest since the very early days and seeing you going the same way im trying to go is such a good feeling ❤ pls make more content like this. There's a lot of people who like these types of videos, trust me. Looking forward to see your games
ive started the game dev journey this year too! started a tafe course 8 weeks ago and you already have more done than i have in only 2 weeks. hope you end up getting where you want by the end of the year! as much as i enjoyed your 'the forest' content, when you quit 'sons of the forest' i was quite glad to see you try new things and not be confined to a game series that was suffocating you.
Got huge respect for you man. Hope all goes well with anything you try to do in the future. 😎😎
I've been following your journey for a couple of years now, and you've made my days less dull watching your gameplays. With four years of experience in game development and coding under my belt, I can say that learning Blender in your free time could be a game-changer for you. Can't wait to see what you make next! Good luck mate
one question. how did you start learning?
I'm all for this, feels like the right thing for you to do next. I'm sure once you get far enough, even if it takes more than a year, you can get patron backers and other supporters to jump in on it. Wish you luck and look forward to playing. We share the same frustrations with games so I can only imagine whatever you make I'll enjoy haha!
I can’t wait to see what you make!!! Congrats on learning a new skill!
this is amazing i hope you make more videos about what you learn about coding and game dev and that
I admire your growth. Not many can say they've tried and done as much as you have in your life. Whatever's in store, I'm here for you.
This is a really similar situation that happened to me when sons of the forest came out. I built so many insane expectations for the game that made it a huge let down. Because I had this very specific vision for how I wanted Sons of the Forest to be, I wanted to learn game dev so I could literally do it myself (Quickly learning it's harder than it looks). I picked up unreal engine because it had a quick learning curve and very high ceiling with programming and now I've been hooked for over a year and recently started my first actual game project. I hope you come to love it as much as I do :)
I am excited to watch your journey into developing your own game! Thank you for posting this life update! Cheers!
I support anyway i can it's not easy . What you are doing you are giving me hope and motivation thank you . Truly
And when ever you release a game on steam i will support you even if early access
Hell yeah man. Keep up the hard work and whenever you decide to release this game I will definitely be buying and checking it out. I've always liked your common sense takes and honesty on games and mechanics so I'm very interested to see what you come up with.
It's really nice that you found your calling, god willing all goes well and you can feel satisfied doing game development
it's a huge & challanging thing making games, it's as much of art as it is analytical & science.
Best of luck !❤
Good luck Farket!! I hope you are able to complete your game the way you want with the features that interest you. It won't be easy but I believe in you!!
Wishing you the absolute best of luck. You have a good eye for what makes games fun and what doesn't. I am sure you'll find success because of this. I myself recently quit my job as an electrician to study software development full time. It also feels daunting, but like you I just love learning and it makes me happy. All the best
Good luck and keep up the good work Farket, will always be a fan of yours.
I'm making my own game as well in my free time, a turn based rpg, so understand how daunting it can all be, especially when you've got no previous experience.
Good luck man, hope it all goes well!
I wish you the best of luck brother, looking forward to seeing the progress 👍
glad you are expanding and enjoying yourself again
Hope this works out for you farket! You are one of the most underrated and interesting people on this platform and it would be a joy to play through whatever you come up with, I am sure of that.
This is so cool! i don’t care if it’s not very good, I will definitely be buying your game when it comes out! Best of luck😁
Good luck to you in your new endeavor! Looking forward to seeing what it is you're planning.
I think you will do well! Good luck, looking forward to seeing this develop! You DO deserve it 😍
Excited to see you doing something new. Best of luck!
this is such a good thing to hear, i hope you have have learning and i can not wait to see what you make
The thought of a game you could possibly put together has seriously sparked my interest
From cop to RUclipsr to game dev that’s wild and I’m here for it
I'm here to support your journey. Keep it up.
I've been learning to be a game dev now for almost 6 years. I'm 20, and finally building my first game from the ground up.
Still learning C++, but I've grasped the fundamentals of Unreal Engine and the basics.
From one learning game dev to another, I wish you luck brother, and good luck.
wow awesome work Farket! Im so happy for you! Im glad you found something to keep your mind busy. Cant wait so see your product and I would love to support. You helped me alot during my time in the forest. I feel like its only fair I send some support your way back. Cheers.
Nice to see that you're willing to learn more. It's admirable
Don't forget you've earned a lot of kudos and there'll be plenty willing to help, sometimes when coding things, you can get so wrapped up in it, that things like assets and textures etc become a thing you wish you just had but actually getting around to making them feels like a major distraction, yet there are wonderful people out here who love doing those things, just keep that in mind dude. Look at an example of Manor Lords a one person at its heart, but using others to accomplish the goal. Wishing you all the best.
Making your own game, wow.
Keep us updated on that, i were a bit uncertain of where your channel would go now that you quit sons, but you have my full support towards game developing, best of luck!
Pretty inspirational man. I'm learning to code myself with zero background, instead of a history in the cop shop like you, it's finance for me. Big props to you for making the jump, keen to see where it takes you
I just started learning unity about a week ago too! Been a fun journey so far. Best of luck to you mate, keen to see the game you make!
Good luck, man. I look forward to seeing what you make.
i cant wait to see how much more you know in just a couple more weeks. ill be one of the first in line to try anything you create man, cant wait
Pretty glad to see you finding a new passion, if this looks to a Farket game i will instantly support ❤
Good luck brother, hope everything works out. I will be watching and waiting for it.
Farket you do have an extensive knowledge on the survival genre, with that in mind I'd love to see and play your concept of a survival game. If you happen to develop one please make a Kickstarter, would love to support your game. :^)
Excited to see what you come up with!!
Good luck my friend I hope the best for you
Please keep us up-to-date with how the dev training is going. You are inspiring me to start tying again!❤
Quite impressive, making a game is no easy feat. I hope you keep us posted, good luck Farket!
Hope we get to hear your giggle again, excited to find out what you come up with man! Nice surprise this, seems right.
Good luck! I'm excited to see what you'll create.
I have been programming for around 8 years now and also always wanted to check out game development but haven't done so yet
Im on a similar journey myself atm.
gotta always keep growing! keep it up. love to see where you go.
Congratulations man! Game Development is for at least the best form of programming. It can be so much fun
love when people challenge themselves and try to learn new stuff even though they might already have a pretty solid position in life. i wish you the best of luck on your way and look forward to your future creations!
I want to gametest in the future if possible! I am a huge game enjoyer. Looking forward to this turn of events, and good luck with this grand feat.
Good luck farket mate. hope you find what your looking for!
Good luck! You can do it!
A game by Farket would actually be so hype, I really hope you succeed in your endeavors dude.
That's awesome. For sure it'll be pretty exciting to see where the new direction takes you. Looking forward to it. Good luck and have fun!
I'm very excited! Game Dev Arc seems like a lot of fun.
Good for you, bro. Keep that upward improvement going 🤙🏼
Awesome news mate. Keen to see the progress.
With the kind of things this guy enjoys in his games, I’d be totally down to play a game he develops! Hope that this works out.
As a game developer my self, it’s a hard journey to make a game fully fleshed out and proper but it’s fun, I think a game made by you would be a really cool step to your channel in my opinion.
After vacation, I'm totally sending you a donation. Watched you play and go from excited to disappointed. However, you got the time to take action and become a dev. I'm sure what comes out of it is going to be BANGIN'.
That's great! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
As a software engineer (still a student). This is really inspirating. Now I've never really watched you but occasionally I have, so congrats and I hope you manage to make your dream game! Good luck man! :D
Congrats Man, good luck!!!
keep it up man been watching since ur old forest tutourials like the bow one how to craft every item exetra cant wait for the new content
You should play abiotic factor, the game design is amazing and you could take some notes from it.
Can't wait too see what you make!
Fantastic, ive been learning Unity and VR dev as well. Looking forward to the journey. Love dev blogs btw
Good on you Farket. Happy for you learning new things. I’m the same way aswell I have to keep learning otherwise I’m bored of it.
Making use of assets and the asset store is nothing bad and nothing to be ashamed of, even AAA developers make use of the asset marketplaces.
Making a game yourself is impressive! I feel inspired and wish i could be like you
I hope the dev work goes well for you ! I think the most difficult part of game development IMO would be to come up with a unique and interesting concept / premise because so much has been done before
Ngl farket studios sounds dam good, all the best brother.
Props to you! Never in a million years would I have even considered the possibility of you choosing to game dev, but either way making a game in 1 year is hard but possible. If you keep you'r current pace, you will succeed as long as the game isn't too large. If you were to make game dev video's, 100% I would watch them :)
Whoa didnt expect that good luck with your game dev keep it up!
Game dev Farket, so cool! Good luck on your journey man. You can use your amazing knowledge of survival games. You have potential! Can't wait to see more from you Farket :)
hey Farket, i’m doing the same thing! Teaching myself how to make video games with zero experience, and i can totally relate to the prototype games and the understanding of code language! This is such an exciting thing to hear, since i’ve been watching you for a while- If you start a patreon, i will absolutely support you there, it seems like a good way to stay afloat financially while devoting your time to learning a game engine
This is a great idea! You are a smart & capable man, I think you will do great at this! I play Ark, never got into Sons of Forest, I like Ark cause you have a mixture of building, animals/breeding and PVP. I will be interested in seeing what you come up with. Looking forward to this.
I’m open to see a series of what you learn every 2 weeks? What mechanics you’re learning at the moment, what you want to master etc.
Good luck, Farket! Maybe drop some videos about your journey. It will be fun for us and it will keep the money coming in.
im glad you actually made change farket rather than putting yourself through mental hell. most youtubers wouldn’t change and just deal with it. which eventually would lead to a downfall. you made the right choice.
This new direction has potential of streaming your new journey of coding and game development, personally id love to see your content on learning coding.
Hell yeah brother! Who better to create a game than it's loyal users! I hope it's a survival game because I think Farket likes survival games and I'm a huge PVE fan and I'd love to buy/test anything you make man. Good luck and don't stop when you hit some walls, bust through them bastards and forge on!
Guy gets so disappointed of sons of the Forrest he decided to make his own game . Your will is inspiring, i hope you get recognised and have many challenges to learn from
