- HAPPY FRIDAY! It’s Friday Confab. I love Fridays because I get to set around the kitchen table with all of you! Talk to me in the comments and we’ll have a great time!
Getting down on the floor is easy but getting back up not so easy. Lol!
So true!!!
There is no way I can get up and down off the floor without something to hoist myself up with. I need it to lean on on the way down too. Lol
I’m only 65, but I’ve fallen 3 times in the last year. On the first fall I broke my arm, but the doctors didn’t know for 11 weeks - after I had suffered through several weeks of physical therapy. My knees are bone-on-bone so when I fall I cannot get myself back up. It’s such a helpless feeling. I had not continued my exercises, but after your encouragement I’ll restart doing them.
I am sorry to hear you’ve had a rough time of it. Just do your best. Thank you for sharing with us.
My husband and I never did anything for Valentine’s Day, except wish each other a happy day and love on each other. I have gotten a little candy for my kids and grandkids. I worked in our high school and it was crazy how much the girls got from their boyfriends. It was a contest, I do believe!!
Thank you for sharing Sandra!
I take many of those same supplements. I get bothered by opening all containers so I pack them in a med dispenser. I hook taking vitamins to other behaviors like making tea and coffee. It helps me not to forget. Never been a fan of exercise or Valentine's day. Being present with your body through breathing is so very grounding and healthy! Happy Friday! Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Thank you Donna!
Oh dear, im down on the floor but I can't get up! I'd better work on it! Thank you Robin ❤😊
LOL thanks Janice!
Funny and wise as usual you are! Happy Valentines Day Robin. I love you! Keep taking your supplements and stretching … I’m going to also. Keep on keeping on 🫶🏼
Happy Valentine’s Day to you too!
Our dance group loves to party. So next week, Valentine's week, we'll have a pot luck after our class. We have members celebrating birthdays: one lady will be 80, one gentleman will be 82. I'm sure a lot of us will be sporting cheerful red. With music and dancing, food and friendship, what's not to love!
Our group is a very unique and special group. We love coming together each week. We have a wonderful teacher, too. We're all seniors. Each with our own challenges.
The cost is minimal. Yearly membership is $10. Weekly charge is $2.00. It's movement for the body, a workout for the mind, and a social delight. A bargain, don't you think?
Sounds like you have a really great group!
I love your channel Robin ❤
Have a great weekend. Thanks for brightening my day!
You too! Thank you Kristy!
I do not expect, but totally enjoy the fresh flowers my husband insists on bringing home. Middle of February here in ontario, anything bright and springy is welcomed.
@@goatlady501 I hear that. I am OVER Winter already. Yuck
We liked buying chocolate right after Valentines day 😂. I have always enjoyed the decorations and spreading a little love around!
Got my Diet Pepsi! I don’t have a Valentine he is in heaven, but I didn’t have a groundhog for Groundhog Day either. We used to go to the store, pick out a valentine, show the other one and put them back. Fun memory. Next day we would go get some cheap candy and enjoy it. Candy prices have gotten nuts! Would never buy a fancy box. Do have one I put out for Valentines, a gift from the dog across the street. He does have 4 legs, not 2.
It sounds like you have a lot of sweet memories Dora! My valentine is in heaven as well. God Bless and thank you.
I agree. Valentines Day is just a money grab.
I don't weigh myself everyday because I became so fixated on the numbers when I did. I gained 6 lbs. over the holidays. I started to get back into walking everyday. I had stopped because I came down with the flu after I got my vaccine. I didn't feel like walking at the time. Now I am back in the zone to lose the last 30 lbs. I need to lose. I take vitamin c,zinc, magnesium, and d3 along with the other meds I need to take. As to valentine's day, my husband and I did spend when we were first married and then we decided it was to expensive. But I got candy and cards for my children when they were little. Thank you for confab Friday's. Love them. Have a great weekend.
Thanks for sharing Margaret! Sorry you had that awful flu. Glad you are back in the zone!
I love your videos and always look forward to them! I don’t know how old are you are but you seem about my age. You are so full of life and such an encouragement to me!
I am 74 Carolyn.
I really like Valentines day! I love the reds and pinks and lovely hearts! I truly enjoy how pretty the house looks all decorated!! I dont spend lots of money, the decor is from the DT or bought from the fantastic sales in the days after the holiday. Save most of it and bring it out every year. I buy small gifts and cards from Aldis for $1.00. i have fun filling the cards with glitter. I especially love sending cards to those who are alone and often forgotten. As a kid it was always super exciting, as my family wasn't the celebratory type,😅 so school on Valentines Day.was one of the BEST days! Like most of life, Valentines is what you make of it!!
Oh my, I loved Valentine’s Day in grade school ❤️. My grade school crush, Timothy gave me the most beautiful valentines card. This was third grade. I decorate with pinks, reds and glitter. My significant other *rolls his eyes* but secretly enjoys it.
I was so looking forward to seeing and listening to you ❤
I agree with your assessment of physical ability. I'm 67 and have been a recreational athlete my whole life. My bare minimum requirement for myself has always been that if I can sit down on the floor (unsupported) and stand back up without using my hands or arms, I'm probably fit and strong enough. I make sure I do this test on myself frequently to gauge my strength and flexibility. I do aerobic and strength training regularly and we are mountain biking enthusiasts. AND I agree 100% on Valentine's day nonsense. We don't gift each other with "things" on any holiday.
Thank you!
My husband and I "confab" each morning and plan our days food. I have lost right at 60 lbs in 18 months by making better food choices and walking 7,500-10,000 steps daily. Just a moderate pace. We only weigh once a month due to fluctuations that can occur.
We learned that we both needed in increase our protein each day to combat muscle loss as we age. NOT KETO! Just a little more fish in our diet. Flexible bodies are so important especially us older folks. I enjoy a session of stretches and some light weights a few days a week but need to increase that. I Great Friday Confab ❤️
That's great you're both working together, it makes a big difference! Thank you Karen!
Hi Robin! Well I was going to take the flexibility test, but I got stuck trying to figure out how to get down. When I started thinking about unlocking the door first so the paramedics could get in to get me back up, I figured I had already failed the test. I do exercise, though. My favorite is doing push ups against the wall. I have a set that I learned in physical therapy where I lay on my bed to do leg raises and other similar exercises.
We never did too much for Valentine's Day. I always baked sugar cookie hearts for my family and later my grandkids. I don't do it for my greats. Don't want to steal the joy from their grandma's.❤
So funny April! I think any movement has got to be good.
Lovely confab today.😊 Thank you ! If you go up and down the stairs that counts as part of your. Work out😂 Rember to include squats even if you need to hang on to the sink. My daughter insisted as she she pointed
out she would not be here to pull me up!!😂😂 s forValentine's I think I am on board with you. Altho there was always a Valenntine cake for supper and a special Stud muffin on the Breakfast table for a certain man in my life. And yes I do believe you have some weirdness running through your veins. As they say "takes one to know one" 😅😅
Love it, I’m glad you enjoyed this week’s confab! Debbie, I will take your daughter’s advice and include the squats.
Hello. Live your videos. Wanted to let you know I started saving my one's the first of February. Have always saved my change. Saving for a trip for my birthday.
That’s great! It adds up quickly.
I get on the floor often to clean. It's a good thing that I do. Because, I was able to get myself up after my last three falls.
That is so good! Not the falling but the getting up.
I feel on the ice and landed on my rump. Getting up was a real challenge. 😢. I'm grateful I didn't break any bones.
@ Oh Dolores that sounds so painful. I’m glad you didn’t break anything.
I am so proud of you to take care of yourself. That is so good!!! I love Valentine's Day. We always make a nice dinner and I would put up little hearts on the kids doors every day with reasons why I love them. 💗💜. Writing down your food is an excellent idea. It can help you spot any food insensitivities/issues instantly. It helped me identify serious issues I didn't know I had. Go figure.
You cracked me up, "I know things"! LOL!! Yes, Robin, you do!! ❤
Love the hearts you put on the kids’ doors! Thank you Wendy!
Good stuff! I am about your age and my husband and I both take a daily multi vitamin and a probiotic and have for years. I might take some extra vitamin d or c in winter but not often and we are rarely sick. We use a stationery bike in our house at least every other day. I go to two exercise classes a week. One is called cardio drumming and one is called PEPPI and is a stretching and range of motion class that can be done by sitting in a chair and sometimes standing next to it. That class uses resistance bands. PEPPI stands for something like peer exercise promotes personal independence. I lift 8 pound weights twice a week for my upper arm strength. I don’t have stairs in my home but do on a back deck so I walk in my yard and do the deck stairs about twice a week. I wish we didn’t take prescriptions but we do. Never weigh myself. The classes I go to are important for socialization. Carole
You’re doing great Carole!
That is wonderful. I’m glad for you
That is a great Judge to be able to get on the floor and back up! My mother in law attended a seniors exercise class, that was at a community center, that was stretching using a chair, sitting in chair and standing holding on to chair, She said it made a big difference in her flexibility. Creative storage box idea love it!
That is awesome! Good for your mother in law.
Enjoy your confabs :-). I take vitamins - more in the winter - to help against getting sick like vitamin D3. I've noticed vitamin b complex and vitamin b12 improves my mood. As for diet - wheat and me do not agree! Brain fog, joint aches, etc. I don't care if its medical or not I just know my body. Never a big valentines celebrator myself. Mostly cute things when the kids were little, that's it. I read the other day I can plant peas and carrots out in the garden! If the ground isn't frozen I may give that a try in a couple of weeks! ❤
Thanks for sharing with us. If I eat too much in the way of Starch I feel it.
Thank you .have nice day !!
Thank you! You too!
Your idea of journaling your weight and what you eat every day is genius! I love the idea because if you don’t feel well you can also make a note of that and you might discover food that doesn’t agree with you. Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean anything to me. But I do know that some enjoy it. I do push ups using a counter and squats. Also like weight. The pushups for upper body and the squats for strengthening the lower body. Also stretching. I shoot for 3-4 days a week. Have a great weekend Robin! Kathy
Thank you Kathy! I appreciate that you are keeping yourself fit your way.
Of course your weird, but weird is good. It's one of the reasons I keep watching you. I see no reason to not have a system. It gives us a direction to go and a purpose for our own self care. Keep on keeping on. Really enjoy my time with you. May God bless you and yours. Please take care. Bye for now.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your being here Terry.
You are most welcome
Nip it, nip it, nip it!😂 I still watch that show. I dont do Valentine's Day. 😊 You have a great day Robin
You too Laura!
I do pretty good with exercise but I need to start stretching more. Have a blessed weekend ❤
Thank you! You too Cynthia!
Please do a video on how to make your basket box thingy. ang
I've been doing 15 minute you tube videos of various exercises. My goal is 30 minutes a day. I usually split them up and do one in the morning before I go to work, and the other sometime in the evening. Walking, weights, yoga, Pilates, I need the variety to keep it interesting. Once the weather gets nice I will start walking outside. I mark my paper calendar so I can track my activity. Thanks for the reminder, I need to stretch more.
Thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work!
Valentines Day is a Hallmark Holiday. My husband and I don't do much under $ 10.00 maybe and then sometimes nothing is done.
Robin your son's comment on you being a good mom reminded me of the saying that a nice mom lets you lick the beaters, a good mom turns the beaters off first. 🙂
Being a math and data nerd I love keeping records of things I do. From what I eat daily, and the nutrient content, to making sure each muscle group in my body gets the needed movement for healthy bones and muscle. A few years ago I even started tracking the amount of water I drank and the number of hours I slept and if going to bed at a specific time would be a positive. It was.
Our late friend Dr. Linus Pauling got us using ONLY powdered vitamin C, which the body utilizes better. Tablet form doesn't get as absorbed as well because of the fillers. He won the Nobel Prize in '62 for his work on vitamin C. When I began it was 1/4 teaspoon in a cup of V8 juice. But now its 1/3 teaspoon midmorning.
We do not take probiotics since I make live culture whole milk yogurt, kombucha and kefir and eat homemade sauerkraut. There is NO junk food in my home. Am also more French like the rest of my family/friends because I eat smaller servings. Most Americans (yes most) eat enough for two people.
No, I do not weigh myself very often. Muscle weighs more than fat and because I strive to have 90% muscle, I gauge my body by how my clothes feel on me. Not to mention I drink more water even in winter because we ski daily and water keeps my body hydrated, kidneys flushed and healthy.
Valentine's Day and other holidays. Have never allowed anyone to tell me I had to celebrate ANY holiday. My brilliant husband and I always did special things ♥for each other during the year. Which made it more meaningful because it denoted, we had thought about the other at a certain moment when we saw something we knew the other wanted. It could be something as simple as the local bakery making his favorite gingerbread bagels a few times a year, seeing the brand of running shoes he wore on sale or him seeing a nonfiction book I wanted in the local bookstore. Or giving me a handwritten note with a new quote he had come upon.
I so appreciate your sharing your life with all of us. I found it very enciteful. Thank you very much!
I just started walking. Down the hill is fine. Back up is awful.I try to do it everyday ❤
My hubby's birthday is Valentine's Day....we celebrate him. He hates Valentine's Day for the same reasons as you, Robin. I think it could also be from having his birthday overshadowed a bit too 😉. I always enjoyed doing fun little things for my son for Valentine's day, crafts and decorations, themed desserts and recipes. But I never expected extravagant gifts, nor did I buy any.
Thank you and Happy Birthday to your hubby! Maybe his birthday should be the national holiday instead. 🎂
I am confused about "Sweetest Day", celebrated in October! Talk about a "Grift"!😆 I look forward to your videos. I'll be "75" in April. I am a grandma and live in Indiana!
Thanks so much!
I do enjoy the after holiday candy sales.
Hi dear Robin...I made a comment last night which shared my exercises and supplements. I got a snarky response from another viewer. I don't want to cause that kind of negative response here so I deleted my comment. I will say that I totally agree with you about Valentine's day! It's a big cash grab for companies. I think they even do that with Christmas these days, so sad. Hubby and I don't really ever exchange gifts for any occasion, but we will give a hug and a kiss and say something like "you are my favorite valentine" 🥰 or something corny like that. 😂
I’m sorry to hear that Amy. Had I seen the snarky comment I would have blocked it. I appreciate your comments.
Don't delete it. Double down 😂 have fun with it 😆
@@jimjones6419 I almost did, Jim! But, I didn't want to turn the comment section into a circus for Robin to have to moderate. 😉
I take a daily multivitamin, collagen, apple cider vinegar and turmeric
Thank you for sharing!
Cool box. Can we get a tutorial?
I'll give it some thought.
Edema or constipation, LOL.
I also weigh daily and write down what I ate.
Too much salt can also cause water retention.
I also have my Weight Watchers app and track foods.
You always tickle me! Have a wonderful day!
Thank you Cindy! You too.
I had my taxes done yesterday and I wasn't sure I was going to make it from my truck to h&r block. I decided right then and there to do the same thing as you I've got to start doing some strength training I've got some bad neuropathy and I'm working on a bad knee which I have a horrible feeling is going to have to be replaced so I may have to act like the rest of the old folks and start using a cane for a bit.
Thanks Susan. Do what is right for you. Get started but be safe as well.
When I tripped on the curb at the mall, I discovered I could get back up. I haven’t intentionally got down on the floor. By getting up without help, do you mean without using your hands and arms? I have to use my hands and arms.
Oh wow! That must have hurt. LOL I mean without someone to help you. I use my hands and arms too.
I don’t think people in their 70s are old. Maybe because I’m in my early 70s and don’t feel old. 90 is getting old in my opinion. Seriously!!
I agree about Valentine's day..i say my husband and i love each other all year long..we don't need to spend tons of money...
Exactly!
weight and scales are affected by the weather, as our bodies are. I weigh more in the summer, humid were I live
My doctor ( female ) nags me about using weights. She’s a fitness guru and loves exercising. Not me. I walk a lot and do that at a nature park. I’m good about taking my supplements. She doesn’t have to nag me about that. I take Womens One A Day. The only other supplement is Calcium + D3.
Extremely icy here in nwct
I also write my weight, blood pressure and blood sugar down every morning, then blood sugar again at night. In the same tablet, I write down everything I eat. That and walking a lot has helped me lose 30 pounds since last April. I have about another 20 pounds to go to be my "ideal" weight. A lot of carbs can cause inflammation (I've been reading a lot having to do with diabetes lately and inflammation is part of that too). As for Valentine's, now that my kids and grandkids are older, and I don't have a husband or significant other, Valentine's Day doesn't interest me either. St. Patrick's Day doesn't either. Easter is the next holiday I'll celebrate. As for Vitamins, I take D3, B12, and COQ10 daily - the D and B in the morning with breakfast and the COQ10 with dinner. I do have some prescription medicines I take though too, so you are very lucky you don't have to take anything like that. I need more stretching and strength training too. TFS
Thanks for sharing Deb! I thought about the COQ10 but haven’t done it. I just may try it.
@@simplefoodsimplelife9632 It's really expensive (the COQ10). I only take it because I'm on a Statin and it's supposed to help offset the side effects. So, you likely don't need it. Research first before you decide. :)
@ thank you Deb!
I did Calanetics for 29 years but now i walk every single day for an hour.
Did you mean Calisthenics?
@sharonhunter4782 No Callanetics
I take a daily vitamin from GNC women’s multivitamin energy and metabolism. I get them at Sam’s club. It is the best vitamin I have ever taken.
Thanks for sharing.
Just wondering what does Comfab mean?
Oh I looked it up! It means an informal discussion. 😊
I should take vitamins . But I don’t . I take my reg meds plus turmeric. Turmeric relieves pain . It’s very good for you. Was recommended by my dr it helps with Arthritis . I have that .
That’s good to know. Thanks Barbara!
@ ❤️
Wow then I am not okay. I can get down but can’t get up. 😢 I take B12 and D3 nature made.
You’re half way there Kathy. Lol. Thanks so much!
@ Right half ways there!
@ oh I can get up using my hands and arms! I brisk walk a mile each day. I eat a Mediterranean meal plan. lol so I am okay!
@ beautiful!
I agree, Valentines day is for corporate greed.
Valentine Day is a scam 😂
Water weight makes your heart work harder. 😊
Yes it does!
I miss the silence. I have tinnitus (a constant crackling and white nose, not the high pitched buzz type) if I don't have a sound going on in the background, All I hear is the noise inside my head and it drives me mad. Oh well. At least the crackle of the fireplace works for a distraction as well as having something playing in the back ground.
I have the tinnitus as well. Sometimes worse than others. Sleeping is the worst.
@@simplefoodsimplelife9632 I have to have a sound on to fall asleep, too. So, I put on a YT thing and wake up to some other weird thing that the algorithm promoted. lol
@ 😒
You are so cute!
Aw, thank you!
I'm a valentine every day
Of course you are!
I've always thought valentine day was a rip off. Even when i was younger.Showing love for each other is a everyday thing.
Yes you are right!
We do not celebrate holidays with each other it is so passe. At 78 who cares!!
Valentine day is a rip off
I was taking supplements then my blood pressure decided to go whacky and the doctor had me on a water pill that wasn’t agreeing with my kidneys. So I got off everything to get my kidney function in check. I’m going to a kidney/hypertension specialist. After we do more tests I will be asking him what is safe to take. My blood pressure is good now with the medication he has me on. He told me I should have never been put on the water pill! Grrr….
I hope he can work out a vitamin regimen for you. Thanks a bunch!
