I think that is the funniest comment I've ever seen yet on any social media platform!! Thank you...I very much needed a good laugh & you provided a great one!! Blessings 🙏♥
If you think something is freezer burned, don't let it thaw in its juices. Rinse the ice off the outside and let it continue to thaw in a colander. Sometimes, that will save it. The obvious freezer burn spots can be cut off and cook the item for the dog. Organize it every 6 months. If it is old or isn't dated, then move it to the fridge freezer to eat asap. Everything in our freezer gets its own shelf - top shelf is broths, 2nd shelf is chicken, 3rd beef, 4th pork, door is veg/nuts/fruit and basket is odd things like lunchmeat and grains. Older dates are on the left and newer dates on the right so the Jamestowne packages have been eaten down. The fridge freezer has yogurt starter, milk, home packaged vegs, small packages of cheese and little bits of leftovers. It is easy to see at a glance what is getting low. Don't decide on a recipe based on what you want but on what you already have.
I just found you, making your brown sugar syrup as Mom always did for us as kids. You said " Little is much when God is in it". Mom passed on at 90 years young and this was one of 2 mottos she always said. It was a blessing to hear. Her other saying was " He's never in a hurry but is always on time" . God Bless you.
I think I need this channel, as I've been a widow for the last 30 years & I need to change up a few things. I like how you save bits & pieces of things & they all come together in a wonderful vegetable soup. Thank you so much for sharing. Blessings & love to you too. 🙏♥
I never would have thought of freezing pasta noodles or milk. I also need to google freezing potatoes/ never would have thought of a lot of these. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this ❤️ I had no idea that I could freeze a lot of this food! I will have to try those freezer bags too. I like how as you are looking through your food, you mention what you are going to make with it. Also you mention the importance of flattening and marking your bags. 🤗❤️💐
Looking forward to cooking this way again. Moving into an apartment in February. Wont be renting a room any longer. Will be sharing the apartment with my son and 3 year old granddaughter. Great video.
I love how you save good food instead of tossing it. I do the same but I’ve found that my food last much longer in the freezer and tastes better longer if I use the food saver to take all of the air out. It was an investment at first but it will pay for itself over time and you can also use it on your dry goods to keep them longer too. 😄
I love this video especially as a widow. I also use the same bags from Dollar General. I don't drink a lot of milk but i keep shelf stable milk from the Dollar Tree on hand.. tastes great and grateful to have it when greatgrands pop in and want cereal.
Hi from Canada, great idea about freezing leftovers, such a brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing, love the idea of freezing chicken broth. Love all your videos. ❤️🇨🇦
Before watching this, i didn't use quart size freezer bags. But, since i chop and freeze my veggies for quick meals, ive been using the gallon size ones. And they were way too big. Well, i paused you video and i ordered the quart size from Walmart and they work so much better for me. I got a box of 50 bags for $2.82. Thank you for your helpful tip.
I love being in the kitchen with you, Robin. That soup looks delicious. It is very cold in NC today with freezing rain and I had already decided to make soup with what I have on hand. I never really cooked this way before -- I always went out for any "missing" ingredients or put off making the recipe! But I decided to be brave. I had some fresh carrots and celery, canned potatoes and green beans. spices, and a small bag of cut-up cooked chicken left over from the other day. And chicken broth. So we're cookin' in style!
I love soup! I made soup this weekend and it was so nice to have a yummy bowl and then the leftovers! I’m sure you enjoyed your delicious soup for several days!
Robin, this soup looks delicious . Have you always cooked/shopped this way (as a newlywed, young mother and as an empty nester before your husband passed?) Or have you gotten more creative and frugal since being a widow?
Beautiful soup! 🙂 We make a similar soup. Instead of meat we will add farro, bulgar, or kamut, all of which have protein. We also love to sauté three cups of small cremini mushrooms (baby portobello) to add, because they have a meaty texture. As well as fresh ground pepper/salt, cumin, turmeric, red pepper flakes. When we use garbanzo beans/chickpeas to make a creamier soup we will take canned or cooked ones and put in the Vitamix and blend and then add to the soup.
Happy New Year Robin it's so funny I got everything out of my freezer this morning😂 to rearrange it❤ I hope you have a wonderful day❤ I'm going to finish watching😊
Happy Monday, Robin. I hope you have stayed warm up in Iowa. Here in KCMO we have had a blizzard like I haven't experienced the past 19 years. That said, I love "being in the kitchen" with you. You share timely yummy and inexpensive meals. Thank you!
I will try those handi wrap bags for SURE! Your soup looks perfecto. And I LOVE parsley for purdiness! Would love to know how to make apocalypse soup!!!
Your soup looks delicious. I think I'll make some kind of soup this week. The temperatures are just brutal cold right now in St. Louis. It's perfect weather for comfort food. I hope you have a wonderful evening.
I love that you started with the drained chickpeas and avocado oil for richness. ❤ I did a similar vegan soup last night with black beans instead of chickpeas. These type of pantry “use it up” meals are so versatile too! Thanks for the inspiration. 😊
We're working on eating down the freezer so with the cold weather this week, I pulled out a container of leftover pinto beans for lunch and a little package of frozen ham bits to make pinwheels for dinner and tomorrow, yum. Last night we had baked potatoes topped with chili as the temperatures dropped. Might use another container of pinto beans and add rice. There are lots of frozen home chopped vegs and frozen broth with meat bits so a soup is easy enough to take us through the cold.
Those freezer bags are a good buy! I've been buying the bulk size Great Value brand at Walmart thinking I was getting a good deal...I can get 112 of the Dollar General bags for what I was spending on a box of 75 quart size GV bags...duh..your soup looks good!!
I canned vegetable soup last summer for the first time, most of the veggies came from my garden. Remainder of veggies were bought at a local farmer's market. Seeing your video - I wonder what I am having for lunch today? Homemade soups taste so much better! Most purchased soups have too much salt in them - mine doesn't :-).
You could also make a chicken tortilla soup! Would need: corn, chicken, chicken or turkey broth, black beans ( if you like them), rotel or regular tomatoes, onions, garlic and if you want it creamy add in some cream of chicken soup. Add in a little cilantro, green onion. Then top with avocado, cheese, and some tortilla strips. I save all of my small and broken up chips from bags and freeze them until I have enough for this soup. Just make sure to only top each bowl or serving…this way you can freeze leftovers in small portions for you later. Turkey pot pie sounds good too. I would use just the pieces in that. If you’re like me, my mother would buy up Swanson pot pies when they went on sale. They might have three or four pieces of turkey or chicken if you were lucky.😅 we had a ham from Aldi( on sale) for New Year’s Day with loaded mashed potatoes, leftover sweet potato casserole, creamed spinach and black eyed peas. I broke down the ham, fixed the pretty sliced pieces for Easter or sandwiches, chunky pieces for soups, bits for Jambalaya and fried rice. The pieces that were not quite as pretty was made into ham salad. So, I decided to make loaded potato soup with leftovers. If this cold stays around I will make 15 bean soup with some of the ham that is frozen in chunks. Plus, I will make a chef salad for lunch one day. I have already made chicken & dumplings ( so good…little flour, salt and water and you have dumplings!). There is another form of hearty meal that will warm you up! We haven’t received snow in my area of our state just very cold temperatures! Hope you are staying warm!
I am so bummed! LOL. Used my last “tv” dinner made from leftovers. My daughter had a ham and I begged for the bone. Split pea soup in my future. The closed captions gave me a good laugh. You use Handy Rat bags.
How many times are you going to show this soup? I've only been watching since Thanksgiving and I've already seen soup several times please show something else 😁
I envy you that you can actually figure out what's in your freezer because I think I have stuff in mine that came over on the Mayflower.
😂 me too
I think that is the funniest comment I've ever seen yet on any social media platform!! Thank you...I very much needed a good laugh & you provided a great one!! Blessings 🙏♥
@@susanturner1171 I can relate to that! 🤣

bay leaves go well w chick peas
I’m afraid I really don’t care for the flavor of bay leaf. But thanks for the suggestion.

I hope you had a larger serving than what was shown in the video.
I did, I ate it for lunch. It was wonderful!
Your frozen mashed potatoes seem to be having an identity crises....thinks it's Greek yogurt apparently.
LOL they sure do.I was going to put some text correcting my error in the video but thought, you guys will figure it out. And you did? Awesome!
