Watching you is so much fun. I thoroughly enjoyed your song at the beginning of the video. I have so many friends that are cantankerous and I don’t understand why. I know many people have little money and aches and pains but I figure any day I’m upright is a good day.

I love love love the longer Friday Confab! WOOOHOO! So far this month I've spent $759 on groceries for our family of 4 adults (me, husband and two college-aged kids still living at home). My challenge for this year is to keep my monthly grocery spending below $1,000. Last year I was spending $1200-$1600/month! Yikes! In Lincoln, Nebraska. We have a full pantry and chest freezer, so working on getting through that this year, also donating a bunch of items from the pantry of things we don't eat anymore. I thawed a whole chicken that's been in the freezer since 2023! We at part of it, then I boiled the carcass and made broth for chicken soup that I will be making for our family dinner today. For me, I just need to be better at planning so I can get my freezer stash used up/rotated through. You always have great ideas for using what you have! Love ya, Robin!

Hi Robin! Love you and your videos. You are so entertaining. I live in Florida. I turned 79 in November and I'm on traditional Medicare and an AARP United Healthcare supplemental which pays the other 20% Medicare doesn't cover and my plan pays the deductibles. I do go to the doctor for my checkups etc but had not been n hospital since 1978 when my second son was born. In August I had a terrible vertigo issue (my first ever) and was hospitalized. I was so glad I had my insurance as I did not have to pay anything. Between the two everything was covered🥰

I love that you sing! I do that too while I am cooking and sometimes I might do a sauted dance (onions sautéing). I am not retired yet and the way things are going, I may have to wait a couple more years but my insurance premiums went up too. There should be a program with medicare , if you don't use it , you get a check for a percentage of what you paid. Regarding the veggies in the can, I say that it is better to have can veggies than no veggies, and yes some veggies have natural sodium. I remember this because my husband was on a low sodium diet at one point in time. See you soon!

If people would think back about 100 years or more before people were able to can their garden produce, other than a few root vegetables that would last a few months in a cellar, they didn’t have any other vegetables to eat for about 8 months out of the year. They had vegetables as long as their gardens were producing and when Summer was over…no more vegetables until the next summer. People are so spoiled now a days being able to go to the store and buy any number of varieties of lettuce greens, salad mixes, and tons of different vegetables. They think it’s always been that way. Lol. When I was growing up all we had all winter was canned vegetables. You couldn’t even buy frozen vegetables. The only fresh vegetables you could buy at the store in the winter was carrots, celery, heads of iceberg lettuce and sometimes tomatoes. There are so many food snobs today, but that’s only because we have such an abundance of foods that are trucked all over the country all year round, so they can pick and choose what they deem to be healthy. Many of us remember not having a thousand different choices for every type of food, and while we are still alive and kicking today, we probably know more about what is healthy or not than many of the food snobs.

I’m not old enough for SSI so we only have my husbands and his retirement. I find it a little strange that every year there is a raise that insurance goes up also (is it a plan???). We have a private insurance plan from my husbands old employer as well. I am sure there is nutrients in canned food, if not I’m in big trouble because I do a lot of home canning. People are ridiculous about what they think about their food.
Many will brag about eating only fresh food, when in reality there is almost no nutrition left in it.
Flash frozen fully ripe fruits and vegetables are much better than fresh stuff that was picked green and sits around in shipping crates for weeks or months.
They are just wasting money. If you want strawberries in winter, buy extra when they are ripe locally, and freeze for winter.
    Eat seasonally.
Canned stuff is fine. Slighty less than frozen, but still good. Better than stuff picked 5000 miles away.
Looking forward to seeing your new paint job.

You're so funny, you crack me up. I cant believe how low your monthly budget was. Boy, if I bought the strict necessary it would be at least $200 a month. Usually, 300 as I buy sale items or spare items. Our taxes here are crazy and the cost of food is twice. eg. I bought one apple for $1.50, milk was 5.50. Crazy i tell you. Anyway, I do what you do with food and my challenge is every December i go thru my pantry for items I don't use or close to expiry and donate them to a food cupboard and every January is to empty my freezer as much as I can. This way things don't go to waste and I spend less on groceries. Its fun to create new recipes from what you have in your freezer and pantry. Keep doing what you are doing....

Because my income was so low, the state was paying my insurance of $174 per month. But, because of the COLA raise, they don't pay it. So I now get $130 per month. And I no longer get my $28 in food share. So instead of getting a raise, I'm losing $158 per month.

Hmmm, that's strange. The state is supposed to disregard COLA for Medicare Saving Program until a new income guideline comes out in March. I can't say it for sure without knowing your circumstances, but you might want to inquire about it. It might not be COLA that caused you to be dropped. Did you complete renewal?

so, there is medicare part A, B, C, D... you are talking about part B + supplemental. I think you are using it for your chiropractor, otherwise it would be a lot more than $24 a month.
